I rarely say a bad thing about LAFD, cause I think they are some of the best firefighters in the country; BUT damn Captain, can you not help your firefighter with the hand line as he struggles to advance with the charged line? And to the firefighter on the hand line, might want to practice masking up while you are pulling onto the scene, that fire could be seen before the engine stopped.
And that lazy Captain might need to get to the gym, he's a bit fat, maybe that is why he could not help, he could not bend over? You think?
The new LAFD Chief might consider a staffing change at 33s and a leadership change at station 33.

maybe its a new firefighter and they want him to get used to handling a line by himself for the times when he might have to?? I don't have any firefighting experience to speak from but you see that kind of thing when training new employees in a lot of jobs.

This caption has 28 years on the dept. it’s not the depts SOG to assist in hose deployment, his job is 360 of the fire looks for exposures and relay info back to IC. It’s a rookie FF, That’s his only job, and our new chief can’t hold a flame to this guys experience. Unless you know our SOGs, your opinion isn’t really valid…just stay on your couch and keep Monday morning quarterbacking.

@@surfhwm31 That Captain needs to lose some fat, get in shape, and be able to actually do his job. Experience or not, he's fat! He was in the alley with no SCBA on his back, even though he was within feet of the fire and toxic gasses. Now not sure what your SOG states, but mine always said you have SCBA on if you are on the fire scene and in case you have to help. You talk about the rookie having one job, but it was a fully charged hose line with no one backing him up. Does your department routinely deploy hose lines without a second firefighter to help move the hose as you advance the attack? Mine always said to have a backup to help avoid injury as you advance a fully charged hose line during an attack. Do not tell me to not criticize; I have been a firefighter, still am a paramedic, and happen to now be in Anesthesia because I decided to continue my education, but I still remember basic safety protocols, and safety to the crew is first and foremost, a dead firefighter never saved anyone or anything. The rookie needed help, PERIOD. Unless you think torturing a rookie while fighting a fire is an acceptable teaching method. If that is the standard LAFD teaching method, then, by all means, tell me that is how you advance an attack with a single firefighter on a fully charged hose line. But I would not let that Captain tell me how to advance a garden hose, much less a fully charged attack line.

Come on Captains get in there, no BA on and doing squat. When I was working my FF’S were suited up and ready to go as soon as they stepped off the engine all they had to do was plug in. I thank God I had great Firefighters and Engineers when I was a Captain. Be safe Lads.

WOW ! Did they save any part of that garage ? Pulling up to a scene like that should of been gear on and waiting to attach hose to Scott pack and grabbing the hose off the engine and shooting down the fire. Standing around putting on a mask, protective hood, helmet, and gloves...slow. At least he turned on the air knob valve.

LAFD can't put their SCBA on while enroute to the fire. They are located outside of the cab. They could still atleast mask up though I suppose. Would be nice to see the Capitan also gear up properly and help out with the hand line.

@@eriksand9262 Clean Cabs don’t make grabs is how the saying goes. I don’t like it at all but that’s the way they do it. One thing I don’t get is why the Captain doesn’t have a pack and masked up helping his Firefighter advance the line to fight fire. I’m sure he’s probably in Command until a chief gets their but still you can be packed up assisting your Firefighters with the initial attack.
