- This review is for Bother SVS Prime and SVS Ultra Center Channel Speakers.
SVS speakers come in two series for home Theater. The Prime and Ultra.
I found the Prime Center to sound much better with higher power. It was run with 90 watts and with 125 watts. SVS prime Center's high end was lacking at 90 watts. Its possible additional wattage over 125 will help more.
The SVS Ultra Center sounds great with both. The Ultra will put out more bass with higher power and its 6.5 inch woofers vs the Primes 5.25 inch. But the vocals were never a issue. Easy to be heard.
SVS Ultra Center Manufactures Specs
Rated bandwidth: 45 Hz-32 kHz (+/-3 dB).
Nominal impedance: 8 ohms.
Sensitivity: 87 dB (2.83V @ 1 meter full-space, 300-3kHz)
Recommended amplifier power: 20-225 watts.
Prime Center Specs
Rated bandwidth: 48 Hz-25 kHz (±3 dB)
Nominal impedance: 8 ohms.
Sensitivity: 86 dB (2.83V @ 1 meter full-space, 300-3kHz)
Recommended amplifier power: 20-200 watts.

About a year ago I replaced an Elac 5.2 Debut cc with a SVS Ultra cc in my 5.1.2 in a quest for clearer dialog (old ears & damaged hearing). The results were a small incremental improvement on-axis but a more significant improvement off-axis.

Thank you for the real world comparison. I always wondered if the price difference between the two was worth it, and it surely sounds like it is. SVS keeps looking as a better option for my next upgrade regardless of the country of origin. To me where the product was made isn't as crucial as to what the company (SVS) demands from the manufacturer in the country they were made (e.g. meeting or surpassing their Quality Control requirements).

Thanks for your comment, I was confused on Prime VS Ultra before, after watching your video, added confidence in my choice, finally I pulled the trigger on the SVS Ultra, I replaced my Elac CC241.3, some might think it's a downgrade, hope I don't regret it. :D

Thanks for this review!😉👍 I’m considering the SVS Ultra Center for my first home theater. Here in Denmark the matching Ulta bookshelf speakers cost 1396 USD for a pair which I find a bit much when they will primarily be used for movies. What other bookshelf speakers would match well with the Ultra Center as left and right front channels? I’m currently looking at Klipsch RP600MII and Dali Oberon 3.

Hi there. I'm a fan of SVS subwoofers...I used to have a PC-12NSD and when it died after 8 years (no complaints at all) I got a PC-2000pro and also a PB-1000pro!! I could have been ok with just the PC2000 pro to be honest but running dual subs (the PB1000 pro in near field) i get good bass for my movies-I'm happy! I have a 5.2.4 atmos set up with a Denon AVR-X4400h receiver and my current speakers are Paradigm Monitor 7v6 for front and a ParadigmCC-390V6 and SVS prime elevation for atmos and surrounds....so I'm thinking I could get SVS speakers for the front and for the center. But I want a real upgrade over my current front speakers which are modest but good for home theatre. At the SVS I'm looking at SVS Prime Tower and at SVS Prime Center...do you think they would be a REAL upgrade over my current speakers? Thanks so much!
Looks like you have great system. What do you think of the PB-1000 sub? I been eyeing it for a good sale price in the future or maybe the sealed port version.. I have tested many speakers and for the front mains nothing can pull me away from the definitive tech bi polars. I have the 9060s 10inch woofer I reviewed and the older 7006 8inch. Im of the mindset that 5inch and 6 inch woofer have no place in main speakers, they cant produce enough for music and definitely not movies. Movies throw as much bass in the front as the LFE. Owning the definitives I learned that. The 9060 has tremendous depth and soundstage power due to bipolar design. It really makes a movie theater presentation and Front speakers are set to large giving my surround backs the large setting as well. I run them with a sub inline for behind the seating explosion power. When I first tried the prime center I wished it had better clarity in high end and a little more with mids...and some deeper bass. The Ultra center is all that and more. I have it crossed over at 60/70hz in each room. Although I don't know if its better than your center. Always buy with a good store return policy of 30 days+.
@@OldtradesReviews hey there...I got the PB-1000pro because there was a delay in getting a PC-2000pro (I'm in Canada) but I like the PB-1000pro. I honestly think it's more than enough for most regular people...but I confess I like the look of the PC-2000 pro! Cylinders are awesome! I got Paradigm speakers because they used to be affordable (Paradigm also has very expensive speakers). I'm considering the SVS speakers because I like the brand but without a direct comparison I may just wait til my current speakers die one day. I'm mostly happy with them. The centre CC-390 is massive! I wish I could have afforded the CC-690 which is impossible to find used now...

@@OldtradesReviews The Cylinder sounds really good...I have read owners' opinions saying that the PC-2000 pro sounds the same as the much bigger PB-2000 pro...I just like the cylinder in gloss piano in my living room...I will try the dual set up for a bit but I may decide to sell the PB-1000 pro later on. I think I will hold off upgrading my paradigm speakers for a bit. Money is tight nowadays!
Do you have one of the Subs connected to the rear surrounds...behind the couch. It makes a huge difference in the impact of movies. Your paradigms might be great. Many of these new speakers are not better than the old ones

Did you connect the ultra to both receivers? I’m curious how the ultra sounded with the lower wattage receiver vs higher wattage.
Yes I have it on each. The dialog is very clear.
I don’t know how I missed it the first time. But I found it at 14:45.

could you explain how it is possible that the Ultra had more details in the higher frequencies (rain falling on the car in Blade Runner 2049), if both tweeters are the same?
The tweeters are not the same on the prime vs ultra series. Specs are not same either...they just look same

I really appreciate your videos. I am on the fence with the SVS prime or ultra center vs. Emotiva c1+ or emotiva c2+. Would love to get your opinion on the emotivas.
Thank you for watching my videos. Glad its helped. The SVS Ultra center is a whole different class of speaker over the Prime. I have not listened to the Emotivas but they have ribbon tweeter which may be a difficult match with other speakers. As they produce a different soundstage usually.
Get the Ultra or the Monolith THX 365c. The emotiva c2+ is a terribly designed center. The c1+ is better but no match for the svs or Monolith

I have not listened to the Klipsch. I have their other speakers over the years and my ears and theh horn tweeters do not mix. Seeing how the price is double. I would start with the SVS and see how it works in your home with the equipment. Just make sure the store has at least 30 days to return. I am very happy with SVS Ultra
I actually feel the 504c is a better center in most cases unless you want to play super loud to really use the rc64 at least from my test
I am trying svs prime centre and kef q650c and kef I think wins for me because svs is too much ear fatiging, everyone says svs better more impact etc, what am I doing wrong? I think I need to give another chance to svs as I don’t know which L/R should I go for.
Any speaker always has to sound best to you regardless of what others say. My SVS Ultra sounds different when hooked up to my onkyo vs marantz receiver. Or the onkyo + emovia amp. It sounds worse with the onkyo alone. Its possible your amp is not a good match for it and your hearing. Or the SVS is not for you. Klipsch speakers never work for my ears
@@OldtradesReviews I mean, I do have 2x svs satellite as an atmos which I love, I do have sb1000pro +monolith 12thx, now I am deciding the centre channle first and depending on what I choose I go for the L+R. Now I use denon x2300 but planning upgrade to x3700/3800 to have another pair of atmos. So is there a possibility that my avr doesn’t give enough juice to this svs centre and I am hearing this as a lack of “body”?
Or maybe eco mode in avr could do this happen to me? Thanks!
@@keepitshemaI know this is several months later, but if you happen to see this: DEFINITELY eco mode can (WILL on most receivers) kill the sound. If you have it enabled, turn it off now. My Marantz SR-8015 has an “Auto” option that does an excellent job of reducing power usage while instantly supplying the necessary power when needed, but I think that is fairly unusual in the industry. For most receivers Eco should just be kept turned off.

Center and front Left & Right are the most important. Save your money on the surround channel speakers 🔊, they are only used about 30% of the movie anyway and even less for a non action film.
I used to like the shine on my speakers also... then I said to myself hang on a minute shouldn't these speakers try to disappear with the sound! 🤪
