Yes! Sounds like a great idea. Every location is slightly different. Florida and Hawai’i needs more hurricane preps. Other states need Cold weather preps, earthquake preps. You guys could write off your trips. Urban prepper could probably take his whole family since they have names like baby prepper. Living On an island, government warns the public to have a few weeks of preparation but it is not enough if we get hit by a major storm. Plus now they used up the hurricane fund for the pandemic 😢.
If any of you prepper gurus come though we are in lockdown and the restaurants are closing down. Also, probably best to focus on urban and multigenerational prepping
I look at prepping as a financial elephant, in that there's "no way" I can afford to prep for that maybe someday, when today and tomorrow are so expensive. The module approach and the dollar store storage tote is a great way to make that elephant bite size. I *can* afford to fill a little tote each month, and each little tote is progress!

You can always put a little bit of money away each paycheck into the bigger items as well. You just have to look at what you need and come up with a financial plan to get there. Good luck Darryl!
Most of the things you are looking at were a third to half as expensive as they are today. Think about what it might cost next year.
There are strategies for this situation, and the main things are 'focus on the priorities' (this would be mainly be food & water), and exchange time for money ... A great and useful project for something like this would be a rotating pantry (if you want me to provide a step by step process let me know). OR another way to look at it sometimes helps as well: 'Having some things ready but incomplete is better then to not have anything at the ready at all'. This can apply to anything, but at least gives you an incentive to start, instead of waiting until you are sure you can get every item you want. F/e in the area of a bug-out bag, just having a dedicated bag with extra clothing, general hygiene items (toothbrush & soap) and a copy of important documents, can probably be put together from the things you have now... Does it mean you can survive for weeks out in the bush? no... but in case of fires, flooding, terrible storms, you can at least 'grab the bag' and move out to somewhere else in the civilized world where those problems are not. And thinking ahead about such a bag, and actually having it at the ready, will obviously result in a better put together bag and the option to leave at a moments notice... And sure, it won't be the Urban Prepper BOB with all the gear and items he collected over 10+ years, but it will surely be better then the things you scrounged together in a couple of hours or even worse, nothing !
Exactly! That’s how I have to do it too. Each shopping trip I add at least one item to my list for prepping, more if affordable at the time. Organization is the key!
As I build my food storage, I’m also building a “recipe book”. I print off anything I think I’ll need and put it in the notebook. One section is “how to” and the other is recipes I want to try. Then as I try it I’ll either throw it away because it did turn out the way I wanted or move it to the keeper section of the notebook. I keep each sheet in a sheet protector and will take the sheet out only to make notes. Notes could be who like it, any changes I might have made, doing WW I write the points on it, etc. The one thing I’m sure I do is find recipes that will work with the food I’m storing. That way if we don’t have electricity (but can cook) I’ll be able to make things that everyone likes and not just open and serve. Just a suggestion.

TheUrbanPrepper, that would be fun. I have worked in the IT world and we used the Scrum process when staring a project. Never thought about using it for prepping, your idea made so much sense to me. I’m going to set up my Scrum board in the next few days and one of the first items is updating my notebook(s), along with finding my gaps. I’m new to prepping and still trying to get it together. People who aren't organized by nature HAVE to have a serious system in place...because otherwise, left to our own devices, everything would be in random piles and shoved in corners.

Haha. Thanks Jennifer! As I mentioned, being a Prepper can be a lonely life, especially when your closest friends and family think it's crazy. Having an outlet is so important to stay motivated.
How do i convince my family to prep? I feel the great need to at least do some level of this for my peace of mind. I live in one of the largest cities in the country, we dont have big storage areas, gardens, garages, attics, etc. we do however have a little better security for what its worth. I really dislike the people who dismiss city dwellers as burdens on society who will just die off in the first instance. That we’re weak and stupid, etc. What’s my best strategy here?
LOL, my mother just keeps telling me not to panic. I said its not panicking it's preparing. I barely had to go out during the shutdown and nothing really felt like it changed for us. I don't talk about prepping to almost anyone. I'm just assembling. One thing I would mention is prepping for a garden with seeds etc.
@@dianeblue130 I'm in one of those cities that Trump seems to focus on and I worry that we could be a target. So I hear your concern! While I'm not right downtown - if something happens I don't have that many ways out of town. I'm planning on having some of my own supplies AND I've been talking to my parents who live over an hour away that they should be the families bug out location. But it's taken four or five conversations and being in the national news to have them start thinking about what we'll do I would keep doing what you need to do, maybe think about where you could bug out to if that is needed and keep bringing it up! Don't stop bringing it up and one day something will click.
@@dianeblue130 Making space. Everything must earn it's spot functionally. Storage ottomans. Bed risers to create under storage. Can the hall closet be emptied? Triage what is there for usefulness. Get wall hooks or a coat tree, or disburse items to the users' closet. Fit the hall closet with shelves for preps. Super high shelves in closets or above laundry? Clear and dedicate for preps. Deep kitchen cabinets? Use the back portion for preps and the front for kitchen items. Side tables can be stacked preps or boxes with preps and covered with a drape.
Even if you know you won't 'bug-out' like a special ops soldier, you might need to stay in a disaster shelter, or go someplace for assistance that involves long waits. Consider backpacks for those purposes, multi-day stay or just a long day away.
Any amount you can do is worth doing.
Organization, redundancy is key. Having supplies stored/hidden in various locations is important in case of fire, flood, seizure, theft, etc.. But, also having premade kits with various items in case some are lost. Don't have all of a specific need in one container. Like all of your fire making items, or all of your ammo, medical, food... Have kits with various supplies. This is especially helpful to use to hand out to family, friends, neighbors that are in need. These could be a 72 hour type kit... reusable container, food, water, hygiene, fire starter, space blanket, flashlight, med kit, instructions, etc.. They should be age or need specific to include foods, entertainment, Bible/inspirational material, meds, multi tool. Being able to quickly grab a container and hand it to someone lessens the exposure of what you have stocked up.
And if you don't have to hand out items, having them organized, ready to go makes bugging out quickly much easier, safer.
It doesn't have to be super expensive. It's definitely better to help out where you can, rather than try and fend off people that you know. Build a relationship with them, so that they may help you.
Collaboration, cooperation...this month-long group of preparedness TH-camrs videos was a great idea and really shows the lifestyle of a “prepper” in a positive and community-minded way. I’m very much enjoying the month-long journey. Thanks for your video. I always learn from you and the others.

I am thankful for this post. It helps people break down the overwhelming tasks of prepping into edible bites. It's one of the things that first attracted me to your channel. Logical, rational, REALISTIC, steps to feel more confident in being able to weather a multitude of emergencies. Here I am years later, still taking notes, but now living in a National Forest, in a global pandemic, with unprecedented fires and hazardous air quality and thinking "How can I prepare for Winter here?". Thank you for everything you post and the logic you bring!

Very nice and well organized video. As for me, I'm a bit old fashion and believe in the KISS Method. A pen and note book is all I needed. I learned that a lot of the items needed for my prepping fell into other categories and can be used as such. With this being the case I had to either double the item needed or keep that item where it could be accessible quickly. Part of prepping is keeping your items from prying eyes and those that may wish to take it away from you; so when making your container(s) be sure you can remove the label or if it is part of your BOB, Bug Out Bag, have it marked family photographs/photos. No one wants to dig through your family photographs. :-)
This is great. I just started gathering enough to need to start the large storage. Great idea to have things spread out. Hidden walls are also great for hiding storage!!

Awesome! Yes, I use different Scrum boards for different projects. A graphic novel would be perfect for this type of strategy!
I use the sterilite latch boxes. My home has a “pantry” in the finished basement, I put a secure door on it and turned it into a prep closet. I used commercial wire shelves and those boxes to organize my gear for medical, survival, radios, etc.
I NEEDED to see this video, today! Organization is a must for me to function, so when I saw the board at 2:13 my heart felt so much peace. I've been in my first home for a few months. I'm working feverishly to balance many projects to get my prep area built in basement and my homestead ready for animals and a garden in the spring, AND needing to work as much as possible (I'm the mostly stay at home parent) to pay for it all + more for my stash. #overwhelmed Thank you for this video.

I have been prepping for two years. I also have been living with my daughter for those 2 years and have had to just store my preps here and there. Yesterday I was finally able to move into my own place. A tiny 2 bedroom apartment. One room will be for preps. Now I'm still wondering how to get organized. This video is a beginning. Thanks!

Great video! I’ve been working at cataloging and organizing all of the various preps that we have. It seems to be a monumental task just to find out where I stand so far 😩 collecting just a little bit at a time over the course of years really adds up. I am also paralyzed at all the categories I have really filled in over the years too. Though I am seeing where the gaps are just writing down and looking at my lists which is great! Prepping ain’t just food and water! I’ve also prepped for shelter, fire, defense, gardening, canning (metal and glass), reloading, and so much more. I realize now I need to color code and break it down into core categories to make it more manageable one at a time. Of course I have started with food and water and have yet to move on to the other categories. I’m going to take a page from your book and color code everything for ease of use. I may also invest in a different organizing method such as shelving, rolling totes, or heck, even a shed of some sort! Preps take up room.

Ooh, this is good! I really like the shoe box idea, and the color thing is great! I'm going to learn more about how to do the board thing, too; Seems like something like that could help me stay on top of everyday life, as well.
I live in a camper right now, and even though I'm just a beginner to prepping, space is already starting to become an issue with just a few bags of dry goods and a couple stacks of canning jars. I do have a storage unit for my furniture and appliances; Idk why it never occurred to me to keep my preps there. That place is locked up like Fort Knox. Makes me less of a target, too, not having a bunch of food and resources here while I'm crammed in this parking lot with a hundred other struggling folks.
Getting things out of these tiny cabinets and into their own containers and moving the larger items out will make such a difference to smoothify my daily life! I feel like all that spray paint will add up quickly, though, so maybe I'll do the colors with construction paper for now.
I'm excited to get those shoe boxes and get to sorting!

just a side note I wouldn't use tape and paper to label stuff, it's extremely vulnerable to sun or water damage. spray paint old fashion label makers is what I would recommend
also labeling them in multiply places, top, side, rear so the can be omnidirectional
While watching this video I realised that the way I plan, prepare and then do the projects I need or want to do is alot like the cycle of sprints that you show. You have inspired me! Now I'm off to do some more research and planning. I'm preparing to Declutter, clean and rearrange my house so I can see the benefit of working in "sprints". Thank you, blessings, Dot

Nice video! I definitely agree about sharing the videos. I've been sharing my Prepping videos too. It's helpful to go back and see how much you have of an item and/or how much you paid for the items. It also helps to remind you of things that you need to buy extra of like different meds etc. TFS

So many great ideas. You may want to consider putting your communication items and electronics in a metal trashcan or something as a makeshift Faraday cage- just in case. Otherwise, bravo! I know what ill be doing in the coming weeks, lol.

Saw you have the Kelly Kettle on the board. Just an FYI, you cant used it to cook food with the grill topper unless you have water in it. It will melt...yes, I learned the hard way after using it for the first time last month...

Just come across your channel and found it so informative. The board is so useful for organising many things. I have now subscribed to your channel and watched the BBC programme which was brilliant. I live in England and prepping is not greatly recognised here but hopefully being taken more serious now we are experiencing this world wide pandemic. I have had a pantry since 1984 when at that time we moved to a remote location and were snowed in all winter. My pantry has come in so useful for my family of 15 during the lack of food etc on the shelves in the shops. I have been prepping for about 2 years now and my family now see the importance of it. I was a bit of an odd ball until our Texas winter last year. I gave away lots of water to friends just so they can flush toilets, not to mention coming over for hot showers or to warm up. It's amazing how attitudes change.

As an ENTP prepper, , I needed something like this in my life!!! This organization stuff is amazing sorcery to me
ENTP (beginner) prepper here as well. I am actually amazing at cleaning and organizing (to the point that I was side-hustling for awhile doing this), but can't seem to do it for myself. It's such a joke. In my own life I am kind of lazy and my stuff is not interesting, but other people's stuff is. That all went to the wayside because coming back to service the same places and people bored the crap out of me after awhile. I was also dx'd with ADHD at age 40+ which doesn't help. Lol When I hyper-focus I can accomplish an insane amount of things though. All my preps right now are chucked into some bins and in a closet until they can be broken out and fine-tuned. They were previously all over the floor in one section of my living room. The struggle is real. 😄

Great job on this video I've been a prepper since the late 1970's so I don't even remember how I got started it was something that "just happened" we didn't have all the available help back then as people have today. Thanks to guys like you less expensive mistakes will be made. We can't afford to make any mistakes right now. I hope a lot of newbies are watching and learning.
