Hi Urban pepper, - glass water storage bottles over plastic. Which one is better at preventing the green build-up. I know keeping them in dark areas out of th sun helps.
We have a tractor supply in my town and they have food grade buckets for half the price of home depot. I know this is a home depot video but its a big savings if you need a few.
Or you can go to your local grocery store (mine is Winn-Dixie) and in the bakery department alot of times they will give you the food grade buckets with the lid you just have to clean it out. 0 dollars
Also, if you are able, collect water in barrels ahead of time. You need a gallon per day/ per person. For drinking, bathing, washing clothes (intimates) and brushing teeth.
We were just discussing this! In the south we generate GALLONS a day from the dehumifier! We will just throw that in the Berkey filter if the water goes out. ( As long as we are able to run the generator for it)
@@sandrabulluck1896 The water out of a dehumidifier is clean, save for the pathogens it carries. Boiling kills almost all of those pathogens, and those it doesn't are pretty rare.
If you have a basement or garage make sure to keep the bags of cement and mortar up off the floor. They will wick ground moisture up through the pores in the slab and harden on the side it's laying on.
Dude, home depot is my shopping mall. The amount of times my wife has had to endure hours of cruising around home depot is a testament to how much crap she puts up with for me haha!
What's so bad about that? My grandpa used to take me the the hardware store all the time, home depot was a treat. My dad has to herd me out now that I'm an adult.
You all don’t know many soy boys do you? Thru friends and family I go to these peoples houses, and they have nothing. No tools, no supplies, not even food in the fridge! I always ask how they even live day to day?! I don’t usually get asked back. Walk thru Lowe’s or Home Depot and open the cabinets and drawers in the display, and that’s their homes...

That isn't completely correct. Lowes is more vet friendly than Home Depot. Lowes has a vet program. Once you sign up for it, your vet status is set to your account, so yes you can get 10% off most things whether you purchase online or in store. Now I said "most things" because Lowes will change their policies from time to time and not notify people about the benefit changes. For example, if something is already discounted you might not get the veteran discount on top of it. No discount for services. And they may not do a discount for special promotionals. It is kind of hit or miss with them. Also you need to be sure to have your idea. They are now asking for it in order to validate your veteran discount. Home Depot doesn't have a vet program. So no discounts with online purchases. Also you have to tell the cashier you are a veteran and have proof of your vet status. This gets more complicated as more stores are shifting to self service checkout. Now with that said, I don't shop at Home Depot as much as Lowes so I'm not sure what their policy is towards discounted items and veteran discount. So I don't know if it matches Lowes current policy or not. But once upon a time I did nothing at Lowes but shop their returns. Back then you did get 10% off everything. And a 10% off of a heavily discounted item simply because it was returned made me think I was robbing the place at times. It is probably why they change their policy.

I do not know if HD carries them or not, but include a high grade whistle for each person in the emergency kit. If there are rescuers looking for you, sounding a good whistle can help them find you.

This is a good video for Northerners. In the South, we have other challenges like lack of basements, and garages are way too hot for storing preps of any kind 9 months of the year.
There is some space under your trailer that you can board up and use it to keep cigarettes and beer in. And the car up on blocks can be used for storage also, but nothing heat sensitive. And if you are wondering, I'm just kidding. I'm from the south also. There were seven kids and mom and dad. We had no A/C in the trailer. It was brutal during the summer. At bedtime, we'd go around with damp rags and try to kill as many mosquitos as possible. I think that most, not all the people that romanticize bugging out have never had to live it for real. It sucks. = )

when i sold my place in 2017 i had about 15 sheets of outdoor plywood i had to sell for $10. each to keep from moving it all- to a mobile court!!! you think that doesn't just kill me now that i'll need at least 2? ggggrrrr.
Just want to add on the tech side: All of these Wi-Fi cameras they sell are cloud-dependent, meaning that if the manufacturer shuts off their server (will happen in the case of SHTF), the cameras will cease functioning. For Wyze cams there are third party firmwares available online, so I suggest checking these out if you already have a Wyze before it's too late
@@maxrockatansky1981 wired doesnt mean it's not cloud dependent. You would want a RSP (real time streaming) capable camera and an associated server/NAS for it. You can always isolate it from the internet and something you can view with a tablet/phone. I would also recommend a POE capable or solar one. With POE you would just need a POE capable network switch or injector and set it up on a UPS ideally to prevent any downtime due to power.
Some Lamp Oil Also, If you dont have one get an Oil lamp or 2, good for light but also in winter with no heat they will help keep the room warm, Just have a battery CO2 detector in that room also. Firelogs if you have a fireplace you can cut them in 1/4 and use them to start damp/wet wood.

The voltage tester can be used to check fences, downed wires, etc after a disaster to prevent electrocution. I have one in my urban search & rescue load bearing kit. Good list!
While you test that 'downed wire' with your voltage tester- Ima stand way back here :) A standard voltmeter comes loaded with other test settings, very useful.
@@jsmythib A voltage meter isn't very practical checking electric lines for urban search/rescue when all I need to know to determine if a line is electrified is a one handed pass. Yeah, you'd better stand back and let the pros handle the dangerous stuff.
in my old house instead of lights rigged up to a timer i installed motion detectors at floor level & wired my lights to them,, i had 3 inside cat's,, so when one went to the litter box in the back room they tripped it same by their food bowl & bed etc,, that way someone watching the house couldn't time the on off cycle,, did this in every room that the cats had access to,, i spent a whole night watching my house and lights were very random, i had also blacked out the lower half of my windows so no one could look in.
Good idea. In my house,we're renovating,so any would be burglar would probably trip and break his neck on cords,pipes,or some junk. Then he's got the crazy ass cats to deal with. And my wife would pull a Rambo on them.
Dude - A real bad person is just gonna go in there and snuff you or your cats. I saw a Jaguar car dealership that got a bunch of mean guard dogs, one morning a bunch of new cars were gone and all the dogs were shot with arrows.

Home Depot saved my life last time I visited LA in July! They have shade cloth. It avoided me to awake with the sun and get cooked with the heat! I don't know why people in California don't use it to cover the windows; it reduces the temperature in a fantastic way. Loves from Argentina.
I use the block out paper-lined shades. They work well and I'm still alive after the power was shut off on a day we hit 122° heat last summer. We already hit 100° day before yesterday in April! I think we may have a hotter summer this summer. I'm not looking forward to it.

A roll of screen material, cut off a couple 3 foot sections for your car first(that way if you ever have to “camp” in your car you can roll down your windows and not get eaten alive. Just duct tape that screen to your car door.) Same thing with your house, in case your screens get damaged and no power, you can open doors and windows to get a breeze. Also liquid nails to go in your caulk gun.
Also, electrical tape & a drinking water hose to fill your h2o drums. If you have a sliding glass door buy a 1/2 in X 2 - 3 ft wooden stick. Place the stick into the top space of the door. Burglars break in by placing their hands on the glass & then lifting it up an inch, this takes the door off the track & then they can kick in the door. The wooden stick prevents them from lifting the door.
Ha. I was just at Home Depot today prepping. Got a folding blade knife, a couple of buckets with lids and added a few items to my tool collection. Look forward to seeing this video to get new ideas. I could definitely drop a thousand bucks in HD easily on preps. I like the HD buckets because they have rubber gaskets. I need to see of lowes buckets also have rubber gaskets

Great List Cliff! A word of caution about the expansion foam you highlighted starting at 2:20 point on this video. There are 2 formulation that are often confused. The first is the Door and Window (low expansion formula) then there is the Gaps and Cracks (high expansion formula) the one you highlighted in the video. Be careful with the Gaps and Cracks formula as it will crush your door and window frames. Not a good idea at anytime but a really bad time in a SHTF scenario 😬 Thanks!
PLUMBER HERE: TAKE THE HOSE OFF YOUR SPIGOT IN WINTER. Protectors aren’t really needed as long as the water can drain out of the spigot and not get trapped in a hose. 👍
Do you recommend leaving the spigot running a tiny bit (as in, open enough to drip) overnight during a hard freeze? That's what I've always heard, but I live in Florida, so most around me aren't familiar with real winter weather (me either 🤣).
@@Firstfalconfree no, don’t leave the outside spigots running. That would let water run down your foundation and make an ice lake outside your home. You can just leave them off and they will be fine. It’s usually wind getting to the pipe behind the spigot that freezes the pipe so make sure it’s siliconed or even cemented in. 👍
You forgot clothes pins & clothes line making stuff. Home depots clothes pins are way better than Wal-Mart's. The only other thing you will need is the building itself to store all that stuff in.
They also have all size batteries, bungee cords n garden supplies. Bleach. Wooden matches. Cell phone chargers for vehicles plus cords too. they even have cleaning supplies. Cheap flashlights.
Good ideas. BTW, denatured is pronounced de-natured, another example of why we should keep hyphens. I thought I was the only person who went around cleaning grave markers as a hobby! Glad to know there is at least one other person out there as strange as I am, lol!
Pay the extra dough for the 12 gauge (thicker) extension cord with heavy duty SJTW outdoor rating vs the cheaper 16 gauge (thin) cord for the generator. Save the 16ga for your Christmas lights.
they gave me the broken-in-half blocks last time i was in there! plenty for a rocket stove. i'll just mud in between cracks. you might ask what they're going to do with them (like i did!) if they have any...
From experience: Buy your rice, beans, lentils, masa flour, Whatever and Freeze it solid - allow to warm to room temp and then place it in 1/2 gallon glass mason jars. If you place a golf ball size piece of dry ice in the jar, fill and LOOSELY screw on cap, wait for 20 minutes then screw cap tightly, all the better. Bug eggs come with your foodstuffs - FREEZING before storage is essential! Bears tore up absolutely EVERYTHING except glass Mason jars - not one broken.
Also for water hoses. Our horses use to step on the hoses. Home Depot and TractorSupply usually carry little clamps that fix them or save many feet of hose.

For door security you can get on Amazon and search portable door lock it's small black and tightens against the door frame and door. No tools. You can also get window locks for vertical sliding windows if you're on a first floor
THIS! we move around almost yearly and I feel like I can never really "prep" Because we are moving anyways. I do try to at least stock up food and water.
Stackable totes are easier to move and keep most of the non-essentials for day-to-day life in a nearby storage unit that doesn't require electricity for entry.....

I have purchased half a dozen 100watt solar kits from Harbor Freight. I can use them myself or split them up for all my immediate neighbors to help keep them as allies or to barter with. I’ve done the same with several other items because you never know how things might pan out.
@@ohwhatelse if nothing else, it adds one more house of separation between my family and trouble from outside elements. May not exclude them but that does not preclude giving others to those more agreeable. Plus, gives us more time to plan and implement a solution. But like I mentioned, I can keep them or barter for something else so plenty of options.

Good things to think about. It's important to analyze your situation, your climate and the risks in the area of the country where you live. Earthquakes, hurricanes, fire/rain/snow storms are common in different areas of the country. They take different approaches to preparation and survival. I live in the desert southwest. It'll be a cold day in hell if I have to worry about a blizzard. Extrene heat takes a different approach.
A lot of the things refered to here are just part of the every day minor emergencies that a home owner has to deal with and may not really be classified as "prepping" as it is commonly thought of. Remember folks it doesn't help you to break the bank with your preps. Start prepping for your most likely senerio working down to the least likely as you can afford them. For example, my first item was a backup for my critical sump pump. An inexpensive 12volt marine bilge pump that can be run from my car battery saved me from expensive basement flooding a few times in the 40yrs I've been in my house. Next came a 2000 watt inverter, also hooked up to a car to keep the fridge and freezer going during an extended power outage. Now, after the Texas experience, I also have a candle and propane heater arrangement that can keep my pipes from freezing without electricity. Keep safety first and do things as your budget allows and your situation requires.
Some good ideas here and I know you're heart's in the right place, but stocking up for EVERY possible SHTF need isn't practical unless you have an unlimited budget and unlimited space; "I think it would be nice to have..." as a rationale doesn't by itself hold much water. "You should get some primer in case your house is tagged. And you should get some spray paint to tag your house." C'mon, Man. A better approach is to use a "SHTF Hierarchy of Needs" to prioritize the order of operations, including most likely causes of danger (ie Global monetary failure vs. Backyard Super Volcano), Bug-in / Bug-out breakpoints, a shopping list strategy, etc. Preppers need to get off the Chicken Little bandwagon and move to "Plan your work and work your plan". I'd put yard signs at the bottom.
That's where YOU come in. We are all different in our unique needs during any given disaster scenario. Every location, person, or event is going to be unique and different. We prioritise according to what we need, want or already have. YOU need to make your own list for what YOU and your family need. The above video I am sure is a guideline and darn good advice and ideas. One of the best I've seen.

Thank you for the time you took to produce it. 😊👍 Suggest the largest blue tarp to cover roof in case of extreme roof damage and spare bundle or 2 of matching roof shingles with roofing nails.
Instead of Sand Bags 2:40, I'd suggest using "Empty" 25/50 lbs Rice Bags (Woven Polypropylene). If you regularly eat rice, or store rice in Mylar bags/5 gallon buckets for preps, you can reuse the rice bags the rice comes in for whatever prep you'll need. Often there are free sand/earth/rocks you can find listed on craigs or local classifieds you can use to fill those bags for floods or whatever.
I bought one of those gas shutoff tools, and it was unable to turn my gas off. I called the gas company, thinking my valve was stuck, but the technician said those are useless...get a 12" or larger adjustable wrench...much better leverage.
After the first time I watched this video I ordered 2 more fire extinguishers and the gas shut-off tool. I also got terra cotta pots. I should look into one of those sprayers.10:40. A long hose is a great idea. If you have to hook it up from the kitchen faucet be sure to get a spigot adapter. BTW as I am trying to stash my stock pile my place does look like it has already been ransacked...hey I'm ahead of that game.
Everything has its ups and downs, Both, city and country are full of predators, unless you move to a 1000 acre or more property, you are wasting your time, city predators are more predictable and easier to deal with if you live in a gated community where everyone contributes and fight, if you are on your own with your family out there, you can be easily overtaken by just 4 or 5 armed people. You can have all the guns and ammo you want, but when a predator sees large numbers of people willing to fight, they run.

Living in a city, and living in the country side is literally the difference between starving to death, and even having a fighting chance. I lived in the city for 40 years, and it's way more civil out in the sticks than you think. I'll never go back to a city in this country until after shtf and the dust settles.

And I’m not saying that country people are not civilized, what I’m saying is that criminals and desperate people with their families know that folks on the outside are more prepared than city people, (at least that’s what they think), and they’ll rather jump in a vehicle to a rural property and find supplies for sure, instead of braking door to door in the city.

Pro tip, if you get 100ft electrical cords, get the biggest you can draw from an outlet, without heating it up, 12 gauge nothing higher. 10 is also fine, 14 gauge is not and only suitable up to 50 ft. Your devices will thank you for it and last longer. Going with an improper gauge will stress them and shorten their life.
Excellent video. I picked up a DeWalt power tool kit. Has a drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and a flashlight and powered by the same size batteries. I also picked 4 additional batteries and a double charger. The original kit came with 2 batteries with a charger. Got it from a pawn shop about 20 years ago at a good price, it is still kicking butt and I am still a customer to this day, now I get silver coins.

Might I add that for every battery tool you have get a manual one also.Not all people will have access to a solar generator or solar power If power goes out permentaly. You made me look at things I need to get. I'm alone so it's a slow process,but getting there. Thanks again for the great video.
Excellent comprehensive video articulating very quickly a variety of uses for various things! Some things I hadn't thought of or were unaware of like the roof safety harness etc. They will be 1 of the top things I will start looking for as they can be valuable in non emergency too. Don't forget that Lowe's has all the same stuff, and wider aisles for maneuverability, and less engaging floor personnel, which I prefer as a contractor who knows where everything is. Ace Hardware is more expensive, but good for the little things you can't find at The Big Box store
Good video. An observation that might've been made re PVC glue (there are currently 1300+ comments, so if it's been mentioned, sorry, but bears repeating anyway) is to store it UPSIDE DOWN. You'll likely need some sort of pliers/pipe wrench to get into it later, but you'll get in to find still-liquid cement instead of a ball of gelatinous mess from the air seepage through the lid's threads. If it's upside down, sure it'll glue the lid shut, but once it does that it will also seal against air getting in to the rest of the can of glue.
Garden pump sprayer also handy as an emergency shower, fill with warm water, good for camping too. At times of civil unrest leave some items obvious and easy to steal, ie a fuel container that's filled with water in garage whilst your real storage is elsewhere, there's a chance robbers on the move fast will take what they can easy find and move on.
Or go to Walmart and get a couple of the 5 gallon solar showers. Just fill them with water and put them in the sun for a couple of hours them you can have a hot shower. You can find them in the camping gear . Or you can go to any camping store or get them online. Very useful to have.

Dehumidifier is also a water generator. Keep some clean buckets nearby to collect water for flushing & to boil for drinking.
Everyone should research about boiling water and how it actually doesn’t work. The best way to clean water is osmosis.

That isn't completely correct. Lowes is more vet friendly than Home Depot. Lowes has a vet program. Once you sign up for it, your vet status is set to your account, so yes you can get 10% off most things whether you purchase online or in store. Now I said "most things" because Lowes will change their policies from time to time and not notify people about the benefit changes. For example, if something is already discounted you might not get the veteran discount on top of it. No discount for services. And they may not do a discount for special promotionals. It is kind of hit or miss with them. Also you need to be sure to have your idea. They are now asking for it in order to validate your veteran discount.
Home Depot doesn't have a vet program. So no discounts with online purchases. Also you have to tell the cashier you are a veteran and have proof of your vet status. This gets more complicated as more stores are shifting to self service checkout. Now with that said, I don't shop at Home Depot as much as Lowes so I'm not sure what their policy is towards discounted items and veteran discount. So I don't know if it matches Lowes current policy or not.
But once upon a time I did nothing at Lowes but shop their returns. Back then you did get 10% off everything. And a 10% off of a heavily discounted item simply because it was returned made me think I was robbing the place at times. It is probably why they change their policy.

This is a good video for Northerners. In the South, we have other challenges like lack of basements, and garages are way too hot for storing preps of any kind 9 months of the year.
There is some space under your trailer that you can board up and use it to keep cigarettes and beer in. And the car up on blocks can be used for storage also, but nothing heat sensitive. And if you are wondering, I'm just kidding. I'm from the south also. There were seven kids and mom and dad. We had no A/C in the trailer. It was brutal during the summer. At bedtime, we'd go around with damp rags and try to kill as many mosquitos as possible. I think that most, not all the people that romanticize bugging out have never had to live it for real. It sucks. = )

Just want to add on the tech side: All of these Wi-Fi cameras they sell are cloud-dependent, meaning that if the manufacturer shuts off their server (will happen in the case of SHTF), the cameras will cease functioning. For Wyze cams there are third party firmwares available online, so I suggest checking these out if you already have a Wyze before it's too late

@@maxrockatansky1981 wired doesnt mean it's not cloud dependent. You would want a RSP (real time streaming) capable camera and an associated server/NAS for it. You can always isolate it from the internet and something you can view with a tablet/phone. I would also recommend a POE capable or solar one. With POE you would just need a POE capable network switch or injector and set it up on a UPS ideally to prevent any downtime due to power.

Some Lamp Oil Also, If you dont have one get an Oil lamp or 2, good for light but also in winter with no heat they will help keep the room warm, Just have a battery CO2 detector in that room also. Firelogs if you have a fireplace you can cut them in 1/4 and use them to start damp/wet wood.

The voltage tester can be used to check fences, downed wires, etc after a disaster to prevent electrocution. I have one in my urban search & rescue load bearing kit. Good list!
While you test that 'downed wire' with your voltage tester- Ima stand way back here :) A standard voltmeter comes loaded with other test settings, very useful.
@@jsmythib A voltage meter isn't very practical checking electric lines for urban search/rescue when all I need to know to determine if a line is electrified is a one handed pass. Yeah, you'd better stand back and let the pros handle the dangerous stuff.

in my old house instead of lights rigged up to a timer i installed motion detectors at floor level & wired my lights to them,, i had 3 inside cat's,, so when one went to the litter box in the back room they tripped it same by their food bowl & bed etc,, that way someone watching the house couldn't time the on off cycle,, did this in every room that the cats had access to,, i spent a whole night watching my house and lights were very random, i had also blacked out the lower half of my windows so no one could look in.
Mine goes off with cats at 4feet with their nice fluffy tail

Home Depot saved my life last time I visited LA in July! They have shade cloth. It avoided me to awake with the sun and get cooked with the heat!

I use the block out paper-lined shades. They work well and I'm still alive after the power was shut off on a day we hit 122° heat last summer. We already hit 100° day before yesterday in April! I think we may have a hotter summer this summer. I'm not looking forward to it.

20 x 20 x 1 inch air filters ( the good ones for 2.5 microns or better) taped to a box fan to filter air in your home. Good for wild fire smoke, etc.

I've been doing that for a few years to avoid having to take the box fan apart to get all the "gunk" out.
You don't even have to tape them, the fan sucks it up tight to the intake side. It keeps the crud out of the fan also.
I use the two filter wedge method. Get more airflow and about 3.5 months use.

A roll of screen material, cut off a couple 3 foot sections for your car first(that way if you ever have to “camp” in your car you can roll down your windows and not get eaten alive. Just duct tape that screen to your car door.) Same thing with your house, in case your screens get damaged and no power, you can open doors and windows to get a breeze. Also liquid nails to go in your caulk gun.
Oh, air filters for your air handler.

Chest freezer has been my single best pandemic investment from Home Depot.
I think people worry it will increase their electric bill.
Also, electrical tape & a drinking water hose to fill your h2o drums. If you have a sliding glass door buy a 1/2 in X 2 - 3 ft wooden stick. Place the stick into the top space of the door. Burglars break in by placing their hands on the glass & then lifting it up an inch, this takes the door off the track & then they can kick in the door. The wooden stick prevents them from lifting the door.
Ha. I was just at Home Depot today prepping. Got a folding blade knife, a couple of buckets with lids and added a few items to my tool collection. Look forward to seeing this video to get new ideas. I could definitely drop a thousand bucks in HD easily on preps. I like the HD buckets because they have rubber gaskets. I need to see of lowes buckets also have rubber gaskets

A word of caution about the expansion foam you highlighted starting at 2:20 point on this video. There are 2 formulation that are often confused. The first is the Door and Window (low expansion formula) then there is the Gaps and Cracks (high expansion formula) the one you highlighted in the video. Be careful with the Gaps and Cracks formula as it will crush your door and window frames. Not a good idea at anytime but a really bad time in a SHTF scenario 😬

PLUMBER HERE: TAKE THE HOSE OFF YOUR SPIGOT IN WINTER. Protectors aren’t really needed as long as the water can drain out of the spigot and not get trapped in a hose. 👍
Do you recommend leaving the spigot running a tiny bit (as in, open enough to drip) overnight during a hard freeze? That's what I've always heard, but I live in Florida, so most around me aren't familiar with real winter weather (me either 🤣).
@@Firstfalconfree no, don’t leave the outside spigots running. That would let water run down your foundation and make an ice lake outside your home. You can just leave them off and they will be fine. It’s usually wind getting to the pipe behind the spigot that freezes the pipe so make sure it’s siliconed or even cemented in. 👍

You forgot clothes pins & clothes line making stuff. Home depots clothes pins are way better than Wal-Mart's. The only other thing you will need is the building itself to store all that stuff in.
Also a means to defend your stuff.

Pay the extra dough for the 12 gauge (thicker) extension cord with heavy duty SJTW outdoor rating vs the cheaper 16 gauge (thin) cord for the generator. Save the 16ga for your Christmas lights.

From experience: Buy your rice, beans, lentils, masa flour, Whatever and Freeze it solid - allow to warm to room temp and then place it in 1/2 gallon glass mason jars. If you place a golf ball size piece of dry ice in the jar, fill and LOOSELY screw on cap, wait for 20 minutes then screw cap tightly, all the better.
Bug eggs come with your foodstuffs - FREEZING before storage is essential!
Bears tore up absolutely EVERYTHING except glass Mason jars - not one broken.

Also for water hoses. Our horses use to step on the hoses. Home Depot and TractorSupply usually carry little clamps that fix them or save many feet of hose.

For door security you can get on Amazon and search portable door lock it's small black and tightens against the door frame and door. No tools. You can also get window locks for vertical sliding windows if you're on a first floor
THIS! we move around almost yearly and I feel like I can never really "prep" Because we are moving anyways. I do try to at least stock up food and water.
Stackable totes are easier to move and keep most of the non-essentials for day-to-day life in a nearby storage unit that doesn't require electricity for entry.....

I have purchased half a dozen 100watt solar kits from Harbor Freight. I can use them myself or split them up for all my immediate neighbors to help keep them as allies or to barter with. I’ve done the same with several other items because you never know how things might pan out.

@@ohwhatelse if nothing else, it adds one more house of separation between my family and trouble from outside elements. May not exclude them but that does not preclude giving others to those more agreeable. Plus, gives us more time to plan and implement a solution. But like I mentioned, I can keep them or barter for something else so plenty of options.

Good things to think about. It's important to analyze your situation, your climate and the risks in the area of the country where you live. Earthquakes, hurricanes, fire/rain/snow storms are common in different areas of the country. They take different approaches to preparation and survival. I live in the desert southwest. It'll be a cold day in hell if I have to worry about a blizzard. Extrene heat takes a different approach.
A lot of the things refered to here are just part of the every day minor emergencies that a home owner has to deal with and may not really be classified as "prepping" as it is commonly thought of. Remember folks it doesn't help you to break the bank with your preps. Start prepping for your most likely senerio working down to the least likely as you can afford them. For example, my first item was a backup for my critical sump pump. An inexpensive 12volt marine bilge pump that can be run from my car battery saved me from expensive basement flooding a few times in the 40yrs I've been in my house. Next came a 2000 watt inverter, also hooked up to a car to keep the fridge and freezer going during an extended power outage. Now, after the Texas experience, I also have a candle and propane heater arrangement that can keep my pipes from freezing without electricity. Keep safety first and do things as your budget allows and your situation requires.
Abandon your home. Move into Home Depot. Problem solved.

Some good ideas here and I know you're heart's in the right place, but stocking up for EVERY possible SHTF need isn't practical unless you have an unlimited budget and unlimited space; "I think it would be nice to have..." as a rationale doesn't by itself hold much water.
"You should get some primer in case your house is tagged. And you should get some spray paint to tag your house." C'mon, Man.
A better approach is to use a "SHTF Hierarchy of Needs" to prioritize the order of operations, including most likely causes of danger (ie Global monetary failure vs. Backyard Super Volcano), Bug-in / Bug-out breakpoints, a shopping list strategy, etc.
Preppers need to get off the Chicken Little bandwagon and move to "Plan your work and work your plan".
I'd put yard signs at the bottom.
That's where YOU come in. We are all different in our unique needs during any given disaster scenario. Every location, person, or event is going to be unique and different. We prioritise according to what we need, want or already have. YOU need to make your own list for what YOU and your family need. The above video I am sure is a guideline and darn good advice and ideas. One of the best I've seen.

I use an Estwing drywall hammer for hand-to-hand combat. It's got an axe blade on one side and a stippled hammer face on the other. It's lethal!

Instead of Sand Bags 2:40, I'd suggest using "Empty" 25/50 lbs Rice Bags (Woven Polypropylene). If you regularly eat rice, or store rice in Mylar bags/5 gallon buckets for preps, you can reuse the rice bags the rice comes in for whatever prep you'll need. Often there are free sand/earth/rocks you can find listed on craigs or local classifieds you can use to fill those bags for floods or whatever.

I bought one of those gas shutoff tools, and it was unable to turn my gas off. I called the gas company, thinking my valve was stuck, but the technician said those are useless...get a 12" or larger adjustable wrench...much better leverage.

A long hose is a great idea. If you have to hook it up from the kitchen faucet be sure to get a spigot adapter.

Everything has its ups and downs, Both, city and country are full of predators, unless you move to a 1000 acre or more property, you are wasting your time, city predators are more predictable and easier to deal with if you live in a gated community where everyone contributes and fight, if you are on your own with your family out there, you can be easily overtaken by just 4 or 5 armed people. You can have all the guns and ammo you want, but when a predator sees large numbers of people willing to fight, they run.

Living in a city, and living in the country side is literally the difference between starving to death, and even having a fighting chance. I lived in the city for 40 years, and it's way more civil out in the sticks than you think. I'll never go back to a city in this country until after shtf and the dust settles.
@@joesalvator5878 Oh believe me, I was born in the country, and I own rural property, but it’s ok, each can go it’s way and take his or her chances. And I’m not saying that country people are not civilized, what I’m saying is that criminals and desperate people with their families know that folks on the outside are more prepared than city people, (at least that’s what they think), and they’ll rather jump in a vehicle to a rural property and find supplies for sure, instead of braking door to door in the city.

Pro tip, if you get 100ft electrical cords, get the biggest you can draw from an outlet, without heating it up, 12 gauge nothing higher. 10 is also fine, 14 gauge is not and only suitable up to 50 ft. Your devices will thank you for it and last longer. Going with an improper gauge will stress them and shorten their life.
Drain King. Also, I’m not sure if they carry solar bulbs at HD, but you can get them on Amazon.
Excellent video. I picked up a DeWalt power tool kit. Has a drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and a flashlight and powered by the same size batteries. I also picked 4 additional batteries and a double charger. The original kit came with 2 batteries with a charger. Got it from a pawn shop about 20 years ago at a good price, it is still kicking butt and I am still a customer to this day, now I get silver coins.

Might I add that for every battery tool you have get a manual one also.Not all people will have access to a solar generator or solar power If power goes out permentaly. Some things I hadn't thought of or were unaware of like the roof safety harness etc. They will be 1 of the top things I will start looking for as they can be valuable in non emergency too. Thank yippy so much for providing a downloadable list too, I can't recall everything covered in the video and will make it very useful to remind me!!

Don't forget that Lowe's has all the same stuff, and wider aisles for maneuverability, and less engaging floor personnel, which I prefer as a contractor who knows where everything is. Ace Hardware is more expensive, but good for the little things you can't find at The Big Box store

Good video. An observation that might've been made re PVC glue (there are currently 1300+ comments, so if it's been mentioned, sorry, but bears repeating anyway) is to store it UPSIDE DOWN. You'll likely need some sort of pliers/pipe wrench to get into it later, but you'll get in to find still-liquid cement instead of a ball of gelatinous mess from the air seepage through the lid's threads.
If it's upside down, sure it'll glue the lid shut, but once it does that it will also seal against air getting in to the rest of the can of glue.
Fantastic information. I have wasted so much PVC glue in the past.

Garden pump sprayer also handy as an emergency shower, fill with warm water, good for camping too.
At times of civil unrest leave some items obvious and easy to steal, ie a fuel container that's filled with water in garage whilst your real storage is elsewhere, there's a chance robbers on the move fast will take what they can easy find and move on.
Or go to Walmart and get a couple of the 5 gallon solar showers. Just fill them with water and put them in the sun for a couple of hours them you can have a hot shower. You can find them in the camping gear . Or you can go to any camping store or get them online. Very useful to have.
