The beauty of music is you can read whatever you want into it. I have severe multiple sclerosis and this song makes me cry,.. feel the Sting, feeling time bearing down... I have watched all of my abilities disappear over time. This song hits hard.
This has become one of my favorite songs. I find this band to be incredible and I'm glad after 30 years I finally decided to look into them. Cheers

I am a Marine. This song encapsulates what it means to be a warrior fighting battles all your life, to then finally realize you're too old to keep doing it. It also hints on that part of every warrior that has some regret for the carnage they've been a part of with that line "Caligula would grin". Just an absolute masterpiece of audio bliss.

I've been a Tool fan since the 90's. My partner and I got together in 2018 and she hadn't heard Tool before that. I played her a song now and again and she got more interested each time with their sound from different eras of their career. We went through life differently in the 90's so she she hadn't seen a lot of live bands. Tool finally came back to the UK in 2022 and she came with me to watch them in Birmingham, UK. She was absolutely in awe for the entire show. I couldn't argue. I've been going to gigs regularly for 35 years and that show was up there amongst the best I've ever seen!

In the 2nd half of the song, the lyrics reference Ponce de Leon, he was a Spanish "explorer" of the Caribbean isles and of the eastern and western coasts of Florida. True or not, he was said to have been in search of a"mystical fountain of youth". Hence the lyrical reference

I think the deeper meaning of the song is about Maynard realizing he (and the boys) are older and questioning whether or not they can still do great work and be relevant. They truly are one a kind. Oh, and that weird solo in the middle of the song is bass.👍😜

Check out Maynard’s 3rd band called Puscifer. It is nothing like Tool but equally great imo. A few Puscifer song recommendations to start off with are:
    “Grand Canyon”
    “The Remedy”
    “The Arsonist”
    “Galileo”
    “Green Valley”
    “The Underwhelming”
    “Bullet Train To Iowa”
    “Bedlamite”
    “No Angel”
I also recommend audio versions only, not any official videos, because much like Tool the videos can be distracting from the music.
