+Don “Chuggnut” K I find the album version lacks any staying power 😎 live version is a lot better and should have been on the album. The song needs the fast paced drums and Brian's guitar.
I saw Queen on this tour. There was no demand at all for the tickets and many empty seats at the show I attended. It was on Sept. 15, 1982, at The Forum in (Inglewood) LA. I discovered the significance of that show the other day. It was the last show of that tour in the U.S. (I do recall flowers for the band). Who would have thought it would be the last show Freddie Mercury ever played in the U.S.?
They had already or began to lose the US at the time of this album. The tin hat was the Break Free video which totally alienated the rock-based fans with the drag video. The US just didn't get it at all. It really took Wayne's World with Bohemian Rhapsody to reinvigorate the band in the US in my opinion. This track is very difficult to play especially the horn section and credit to Brian May for riffing it live. A case of the live performance being better than this recorded version as with all the Hot Space tracks.
Queen's song, I Want To Break Free, was the reason Freddie refused to tour the USA again. The music video was banned by MTV and he was so angry about it, because Queen was instrumental in launching MTV, that he vowed he would never tour the USA again. What MTV and the USA didn't understand was that the music video was a loving, tongue in cheek, poking fun at a British TV show / soap opera called Coronation Street. The rest of the world that got the show understood the video and that it wasn't just 4 guys dressed in drag for the hell of it. Brian has stated in interviews that if a band stops touring it loses its fans. That happened in the USA. Sadly the USA missed out on some truly wonderful music. Interest in Queen resurfaced in the USA in 1985 with their performance at Live Aid.
I don’t understand why this album got the hate it got. Dude, if a band nails disco, synth pop, gospel, soul, opera, progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, that means they’re fucking great at what they do. There’s no such thing as a bad record from Queen.
and don't forget about Soft Rock, Pop-Rock, Rockabilly, Thrash Metal, Punk, Glam Rock, Country, Orchestra Rock, Blues, Jazz, Flamenco, Waltz, Caribic, Medieval Harpsichord and Arabian and Japanese traditional music

I love everything about Queen and this and The Works are my favorite albums by Queen.
Amo Queen
Hot Space is the best album of Queen.

i love this album i LOVE it this is such a good album THIS is the good shit good shit YEAH
Hasta en los peores momentos de la banda Freddy no dejaba de desplegar genialidad creativa y el grupo de sonar la hostia.
Guys just because Queen tried something different, doesn't mean you have to hate it. It's perfect
Viniendo de QUEEN esta canción es magnifica todo es perfecto y digo
ES porque nunca morirán van a ser eternos... nosotros perpetuaremos su música.
My tour of the Queen discography continues and i finally made it to Hot Space. I was really interested to get to this album because i know there are so many mixed opinions of this one. I like Staying Power - it has a nice beat - but then again i grew up in the disco era so this is the music of my childhood. :) Will see what the rest of the album has to offer but to me Queen can do no wrong!!
I love Hot Space its one of my favourites
