    Great video! I go to Nepal each year, but just launched my channel and this is the first year I will be documenting everything. I have published my first few Everest videos on the channel but "hope" to upload 40-50 more Everest "how to" videos in the next year. LOVE what you have done here! Great job!

    I watched this almost two years ago. Now I just rewatched it before my upcoming trekking because I remembered it as one of the most useful packing videos and wanted to see if I still agreed with it, and amazingly I do! Still an amazing video and comes highly recommended for everyone who is going on a first trip!

    Excellent video. I agree 100% with the merino wool thing. It's a miracle fabric that helped keep me sane. Soft and snuggly. Thumbs up on your list. I added a polyester liner sock inside the wool socks. Didn't get a single blister on two trips to Nepal. My only issue, I will confess, is I basically bring what you bring, but multiples of each. I had a Sherpa porter/guide helping me out but it still brought me guilt.

    • @duzer
      @duzer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's ok to hire a local porter, it can really help the people! Thanks for watching Kyle!

      @mblitch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm packing right now to depart in 1 day for my EBC trek, Apr 2017. I'm taking my Mavic, but getting the legal permit is just about impossible if you're not in country at least a week before you plan to operate. Supposedly the permit is free, but you have to get so many different letters of 'security' and such.
      No one seems to be able to arrange a permit before I arrive, so I have little choice but to just not get the permit.
      What was your experience using it, getting the permit, if applicable, and the performance of it in the high altitude?

    Ryan you are fantastic to watch! I watched your whole trek to EBC and felt like I was right there with you. My friend and I are doing the EBC Trek in early October and I was hoping you would recommend a portable water filter. Thank you for any guidance! Love your videos!

      Thanks Rebecca for watching! You are gonna love the trek, it's pure magic...and WAY better in real life than in my videos :) I didn't have a water filter, i'd get water at the tea houses everday and fill up my camelback...I also used some iodine tablets here in there in the wild...they are WAY lighter than a filter. Have fun!

    Hey Ryan, Great video! However, I tried marino wool base-layer several time in different conditions. No good! Took too long to dry and didn't wear very well. Polyester is much better. Dries quickly and lasts for years. The water reservoir is good in warm climates, but once you get below zero the tube and especially the mouthpiece will freeze. Wide mouth bottles work the best. Your boots are ok, but I prefer a good quality leather boot when trekking in the Himalayas, but that's my personal choice. The rest of your gear is great! Although, I'd add sky googles and a climbing helmet. Warning about using a drone camera in Nepal: You need permission from the Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN). And foreigners have a very hard time getting permission.

    Thanks for sharing your tips with us here on youtube. I'm thinking of doing Annapurna Circuit in October, but i'm inclined on doing it solo. Is it possible? Also how did you feel in high altitude? was it problematic? Also how many aclimatization days did you do and where along the trek?

    So after watching a few episodes of your trek which btw EXCELLENT videos so entertaining so immersive full spectrum culture man love it can’t wait to finish them. I’m going to Kathmandu late December and trekking to early January I’m told it’s cold -18c - 0c at night
    My main question is this is really all the gear you brought?? What was final weight??
    2. I loved that u just flew to lukla then walked without a guide or anything so how easy is navigation in the Everest area? I only have boot camp training for experience
    3. Did you run into any problems/tips for first time trekker

    • @duzer
      @duzer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Paulo! It will be cold at night, but the days are pretty warm when the sun is out, many times I hiked without a jacket. I don't know about the final weight, but it was pretty light, which is what you want...heavy packs are no fun...I wore the same thing everyday, and didn't get too stinky. I'd go with less, and if you need more, you can buy all sorts of gear in Nepal in Kathmandu and namche Bazaar. You will be fine without a guide, I met tons of trekkers without guides! ENJOY!

    Hey Ryan! Gotta say I enjoy your videos man! We are planning a first ever trek to EBC and your videos have been really helpful!
    I'm curious to whether you got all the "suggested" vaccinations?? Also, your thoughts regarding them. Thanks! Scott :)

    • @duzer
      @duzer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't get any vaccinations...didn't even know there were any suggested ones...not many bugs up in the high country to spread disease. have fun!

    Hi Ryan, I know this video was posted a long time ago, but great video as always. I'm in my 60's and investigating the possibilities of an EBC trek in the future. I would more than likely use a guide service, but I was just wondering what the expenses are like there in Nepal, such as a flight to Lukla and food and lodging? Asking just in case the guide service doesn't cover these expenses. Thanks in advance.

    What time of year did you go? Plan on doing 3 passes in beginning of December. Is there anything else you would bring for the winter you didn't mention here? Your list seems pretty comprehensive. Also, did you get any gear in Kathmandu?

    very informative, my friend, thanks for the vid! Do you do all these treks yourself or go with group of friends or likeminded people? I'd love to join the circuit trekking even though I have no prior experience :)

    • @duzer
      @duzer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You don't need any experience. I did these treks alone, and met people along the way, it's a great way to learn about Nepal, but also meet people from all over the world

    How many iodine tablets would you suggest bringing for a three week trip, and do you need actual glacier glasses for the trip or will regular sunglasses suffice? Thank you!

    • @duzer
      @duzer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple bottles should be fine, and you can buy them there as well

    • @duzer

    How much is a trek to EBC altogether? Contimplating this for 2019. Gives me a whole year to save and get extra time off. Are the tea houses cheap and do you pay as you go? I'd like some more pricing and info. I'd becoming from North America. Florida to be exact. Nice video btw

    • @duzer
      @duzer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tea houses are like 2 bucks a night, meals are around 3-5, all together this experience cost me less than 2k.

    • @davevil7573
      @davevil7573 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man sounds like the most expensive part of it would probably be airfare and any personal expenses then.

    heya, Ryan said to bring a small daybag for when you dont wanna carry your big guy around - to clarify we're bringing a small bag inside our larger bag just walking around when your not trekking but staying in a spot for a while? is it safe to leave your big bag in the tea houses?

    Wonderful video..... we are planning to go for the 3 passes trek in November... We will be carrying all our gear ourselves, so want to keep it as light as possible...wondering... is it absolutely necessary to carry a sleeping bag? Or will tea houses provide us with extra blankets if we are cold? Also, do we need to carry a four season sleeping bag or something lighter will do?

    • @duzer
      @duzer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it;'s not necessary as tea houses have blankets,..but just to be sure that you're warm, it's a good idea. A light bag will be fine coupled with the blankets

    I fly the racing style drones and I was considering a dji Mavic like you have for the ebc trek Im doing in December. But from some of the videos Ive seen there have been helicopters (real ones ;) flying about to rescue people so Ive decided against it. What are your thoughts? Have you flown it there??

    • @duzer
      @duzer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I flew my mavic in the EBC area, and yes, there are plenty of real helicopters too, you just have to be careful to fly when they're not around.

  • @dank8407

    A couple quick questions for you... So I am pulling a last minute trip, really want to do the 3 high passes but not sure if I have enough time ( 29th of November- 13th of December, but I can push the return date back 3 or 4 days.). Everything I have been reading is saying that you should have at least 20 days. One company I was looking at said that they can do it in 17 days....after reading some of their review, I decided not to go with them. Did you go though a company ( if so, what one?) or did you just figure it out on the fly? so many questions, so little time....

      Dan Kolarsick you got this! I did the Trek on my own, it’s very easy to navigate and many people go solo. I did this Trek in 15 days, and wasn’t really hustling that fast. Buy the ticket and go!!!

    Might I recommend Chlorine tablets (like Aquatabs) in place Iodine. Treats the water but it tastes normal. And Cipro, 11th essential in third world travel. Also to the viewers the farthest uphill ATM will be Namche (VISA only). Cash Rules Everything Around the higher towns.

    You took a minimal sleeping bag but the trek videos show you were very cold at night a lot of the time. Would you take a heavier sleeping bag if you went again. ?

    Hello, good vid, you are funny too :)) What kind of lightweight sleeping bag you have and is it enough such a bag up higher where it can get very cold at night? I heard many guest houses charges a fee for extra blankets. Also whats your height and weight, what size is your down jacket?

    • @duzer
      @duzer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      my down is a large, my sleeping bag is made by sea to summit, it was enough in the guest houses, and blankets are always free from what I saw. i'm 5.11, 165

    Good video, but UAVs(drones) are not allowed in the Everest area as they are hazardous to the numerous helis on that route.

    hi I will be going to Nepal to do the EBC end November 2018 to mid December. I am planning to trek solo. Do you think it's fine or should I engage a porter with me? I am also planning to book the accommodation as I trek along the way. Is this a good idea? I am just wondering if I reach each village late like 4-5pm .. is it still easy to possible to book in an accommodation? are the people there really friendly there and if Tengboche village more welcoming to bigger tour group than to solo trekkers? Do you have any advise to walk in book the accommodation ? also is Sleeping bag necessary or can I ask for more blankets ? Thank you !

    • @duzer
      @duzer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll be just fine going solo. I never had any problem finding a bed when I arrived in the afternoons. Tenboche is great, they even have a great bakery and you can sit with the monks if you like. I'd bring a sleeping bag, it helped on the very cold nights. HAVE FUN!

      Hey what about the acclimatization days for going to EBC ?, i wanna take a tour, and it lasts 12 days in total , they promote 2 acclimatization days, one in Namche Bazaar and the other in Dingboche ?, do you find it fine to avoid any sort of AMS ?
