Hello everyone! I just made another vid talking about what I learnt & things I did differently while making this vest again. I recommend watching it before you start knitting your vest because you may find some of the information helpful (: xx th-cam.com/video/_Rv89mlcxoY/w-d-xo.html
Gracias porque me encanta todo lo que haces!!! Soy de Argentina 😊 pero me cuesta mucho entender algunas cosas que explicas..... la traducción hace muchísima falta please!
I've been crocheting for almost 4 years and I've always been jealous of how much less yarn is used in knitting so I went to Daiso and bought a circular knitting needles and just started 4 days ago. I got the hang of the tension and this video is wonderfully slow enough for me to understand what is going on and following along as a beginner. Thank you so much for helping a lot of us into doing something fun
I was searching for at least one month for a full _not complicated_ tutorial of a vest ! And then you uploaded this! thank you girl! So easy to follow! Can't wait for pt 2
You're honestly amazingg. Most of the tutorials are crocheting and not knitting so thank you for uploading this ToT Can't wait to see your future tutorials and projects!!
I just finished my front piece! Thank you so much for a wonderful video, your instructions are so clear and I'm shocked how well I managed to do this as a semi-beginner knitter. I'm so happy with it and am looking forward to the next parts! :)
Thank you so much! I had started a sweater vest for my daughter but couldn’t figure out how I was going to do the neck. I found your video and it’s exactly what I needed!!! Thank you so much!!!
this tutorial is so great and explains how to shape arm holes really well, i used this video as a reference to making a short sleeve top and figured out how to do some alterations to it based on how i wanted it to look like, your video really helped me get the basis of it! thanks
I actually tried making this at the beginning of the year, but silly me just followed everything to the t, never minding that we have completely different build, so it turned out too small for me 😅 got a bit discouraged, but now i wanted to try making one again. Actually watched other tutorials but came back to this because you just explain everything so well ☺ anyway gotta go knit my 2nd vest 🙆♀️
oh dear 😔 I wish I explained the gauge/size situation better in the video but I didn't really understand it myself back then! I'm glad you are trying again though (: good luck with it!
I haven't done knitting for years but this sweater vest trend made me think of making my own. This tutorial is really helpful to start step by step so thank you!
Just finished making mine and it's fantastic! It was really easy to change the size and I'm so happy with the outcome! Thank you for such an amazing tutorial !!
I lack self confidence when it comes to big projects. J am trying tk make my own patterns and this has just given me great inspo. Ur so talented. Good luck fir future and remember u r perfect. ❤
I'm still waiting for my yarn to arrive. When waiting I started to use my other yarn to memorize this first part and to help my muscle memory. I'm a crocheter and still learn how to knit and this is the perfect starting project for me because I'm into wearables. I'm really excited to create this pattern/tutorial. 🙂💚
This is the first time I am going to knit a vest. So excited about the prospect , now that I found your easy to follow tutorial, so we'll explained. It is going to help me immensely. Thank you so much.
As a first timer I finished this part and it was not complicated because u explained it very well that my dummy brain finally understand 😅 I wish for you to share more knitting tutorials because I wanna learn more from you♥️♥️
Mena thank you so much for this tutorial I just finished the front piece of my vest this video was so informational and you explained everything so thoroughly !!!!! Soon watch part two for the back piece 🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿
Wow I just found your Chanel and love the vest and colour. Awesome. I’m making a vest and I was stuck on how to do a v neck and your vest is beautiful and great explanation. Thank you for the tutorial ❤🙏
Hey! Mena i know it's been 1 year already since you posted this video but thank you so much for all the detail video of this vest i just finished I first ever sweater vest only because of all those video you shared. Thank you again ❤️❤️lots of love from India.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used it as a guide to make my plush froggy a vest because I figured it’d be easier for me to start small before I attempt to make one that fits me 😅
Thank you so much for this video. Your instructions were superb. Also I didn't know about your method of decreasing. It makes the work look so much better. I learned a lot and I love your design. I'm going over to part 2 now. Big thanks.
this tutorial is amazing! I just started knitting and I want my first project to be a vest. However, every tutorial mentioned stitches and decreases that I didn't know how to do. I just learned so much stuff from this video and I can't wait to try it out.
Update: I'm currently knitting the stockinette part of the front piece. I've already knit like 20 something rows of that part, don't worry I marked the exact row in my pattern. Nobody told me that knitting takes really long! The videos always make it seem like you could finish a vest in a few days. Maybe some can do that, but this will probably take me another month. Anyway, the rows that I already have look exactly how I wanted my vest to be.
Omg Thank you for this step by step tutorial! You explained everything so good 😍 I am just waiting for part 3 how to finish this vest! And i have to tell you that you are so beautiful and vest looks so cool! 💫
Love this, I’ve wanted to have a sweater vest but the ones I see just are too much money for me and out of stubbornness I’ve decided to do this and fail until I get it right. Also, she kinda sounds like Harry styles in interviews when she talks, love that aesthetic
I made a gauge swatch and it turned out I didn't do it right, so I made another one, lol. I made somewhat amount of progress on a front panel, but found out near the arm-hole part that it would be too small because I didn't take into account when measuring that there was going to be decreases for the armholes lol. So now, I think I will cast on the same amount of stitches you did, but maybe a bit more because of taking account of my gauge being a bit different but almost the same as yours.
great tutorial, the only thing it was missing was more accommodation for larger sizes. I'm a beginner and had to unstitch four days of knitwork because it was way too small.
İt's the best tutorial ever!!! I'm on right strap of the vest now and it's the only time I'm not puzzled and understood everything. Do you think of uploading tutorials about other things too? Like sweater?
The drawing in 21:35 is super helful! So you inspired me to start knitting, and I've almost finished my first top down (or circular) knitting for my nephew's hat. I think my next project will be this! I bought a needle set, I need to get more yarn! I think I'll add some cable in this design. Thank you :)
What do we do if we want a thicker v-band starting a lil deep? I'm using this tutorial to make the houndstooth sweater vest and those usually have a wider V neck. Also what's the significance of the +2 in the cast on? I'd be so glad to have a reply and some help as this is my first knitting project!
Hola!! Explica perfecto, y todo muy ordenado, la felicito y muchas gracias por compartir tu talento tan bello, Saludos desde Costa Rica, Centroamerica!!
hi! this looks amazing I'm v excited to start it. I was just wondering if you could please tell me roughly how much each of the sections should measure?( eg ribbing, the section before the decrease etc) because I'm using a different yarn weight. :)
Hello! Thank you (: Do you mean the length of each section(not width right)? The ribbing is 9cm, the section before the decreasing is 15cm, the bit between when the decreasing starts and when the strap starts is 8cm and the strap is 19cm. The whole vest is roughly 45cm wide & 51cm long. Hope this helps!
Love the pattern. Thank you so much for the video. I have a small knitting math question though. Is the number of decrease stiches and rows the same if I casted on a different number in the beginning? If it is not, can you maybe share how to calculate how many stiches to decrease based the number of cast on stiches? Thank you :)
hey thank you (: It depends on how different your cast on number is. If it's just a bit then I wouldn't worry. Tbh, when I was first making this pattern, I just decreased until it looked right haha But I guess I decreased 8 on each side which is about 9% of the total cast on number so maybe you can use that as a guide? Good luck with it (:
@@lauri3945 hey! sorry for the late reply - just saw this comment. I chose that number based on a cardigan I measured and the calculations from my gauge swatch. I'd recommend measuring a sweater or top or something you like the fit of and go from there. Hope this helps!
So I'm knitting this with a bit thicker yarn, and with 5mm needles. I'm a small and wanted a bit tighter fit (about 40cm width), so I cast on 76 stitches as my gauge was 19sts=10cm. When it comes to shaping the armholes of my piece, should I still bind off and decrease the exact same way you do? I absolutely love your tutorials btw!!
hey! hmmm I think you won't have to decrease as much for the armholes (maybe 1 or 2 decreases fewer than me on each side). If I were you I would just decide as you go based on how it looks (don't know if this is good advice lol but it's actually how I came up with this pattern in the first place, I just stopped decreasing when it looked right) Just make sure you write down what you do so you know how many total rows you end up with and can match the back piece. Good luck! I hope this was helpful (:
Honestly i am just making it... as a 7th thing i ever made, while i started 2 months ago (so far pnly made a few headbands and 2 hats, so this is a big jump) surely u can do it with a bit of practice first on smaller things ^^
I've started making this in January 2022 and made the back panel, now I'm making the front. It's the 1st thing I'm knitting in mu life. The most difficult thing is patience, the rest is rather easy.
Hi Mena, I really love the video. I'm fairly new to knitting, but with all the guidance I think I will be able to make this vest. Could I ask, regarding the pattern...both lots of instructions say "front of vest"...is the second lot of instructions actually for the back of the vest?? Many thanks Sue xx
Love this video. The instructions are very easy to follow also how you take your time to explain it by speaking slowly or showing the stitches. May I please ask where did you purchase the circular knitting needles from? Thanks 😊
Thank you, that is so lovely to hear (: I have a set of interchangeable circular needles from Knit Pro (purchased from amazon). I can't find the exact name of the set I got but they make a whole bunch of different sets and also sell individual needles too! They are so great.. it was a bit of an investment buying a whole set but it's been an absolute game-changer for me.
Hi your tutorial is amazing! I am just a bit confused on how you got the 45cm measurement from the cardigan you liked the fit of. What part of the cardigan did you measure to get 45cm?
I love your channel and your creativity. The video tutorial is very informative, which cannot be said about other videos on this topic. I speak Russian and I am sure that you have such an audience too. Could you make Russian subtitles please. I understand English, but still some points are not clear. P.s. I was so inspired by your video that I'm going to knit from it.❤
Hey! You could cast on the total number (front + back) & knit up to the armhole decrease in the round but after that you would still need to do the front & back separately so the striping might look a bit inconsistent between the bottom and top halves. I can’t really think of a solution to this ☹️ if I were you I’d probably knit them separately cos even though the stripes won’t connect, the overall effect of the front & back will match. I have seen some other patterns that work in the round but they were from the top down. I think you would still need to do the back and front separately where the armholes are so I think you’d encounter the same problem. Anyway sorry I couldn’t be of more help. Good luck with it!
Also instead of a v-neck it might be better to knit 2 back pieces and make a crew neck vest instead cos I imagine with the v-neck front the striping on the straps would also look quite different to the rest of the body.
Hi! I'm making this right now and I was wondering what the final measurements were for the orange border on the bottom of the vest? I'm at 11 rows right now and it already looks kinda thick, not sure if it's because of the yarn I used
I like how this is knitted flat than in the round. I know everyone and their mother and grandmother prefer knitting in the round, but I can't afford to buy multiple lengths of the same needle size and their DPNs (or even an interchangeable set). I live in a country where ordering needles form the US or even Australia can be challenging. Magic Loop technique? We don't know her. I use braided wire circular knitting needles. That wire ain't magically bending + I can't be bothered enough to order an eighty-centimetre version online at the moment. If rather see seams that to spend more money on materials. 😅
Hi, I just found your channel and you are awesome!!! Thank you for being so clear and taking us through every step. (If you don't mind me dropping a request, a cardigan pattern would be really nice! Or a video on a garment that includes intarsia)
Hello there! Ty so much for the tutorial! I have a question: why can't the circular needles be longer than 60 cm? I'm making a vest for a larger person, could i make it with my 80 cm circular needles?
Hello! Actually you can use longer needles. It's because when picking up the stitches around the armhole it's tricky to do so with longer needles (check part 3) but you can also use the magic loop method which I didn't realise at the time of making this video. Hope this helps and happy knitting!
You only need circular needles to pick up stitches for the ribbing around the armholes and neckline (see part 3) but I think it is better to use the same size or even smaller for the ribbing. Have you already bought your yarn? Maybe you can buy yarn that suits the 5mm needles.

I’m a 12 year old and I knit an crochet alloy
Hi Mena, I really love the video. I'm fairly new to knitting, but with all the guidance I think I will be able to make this vest. Could I ask, regarding the pattern...both lots of instructions say "front of vest"...is the second lot of instructions actually for the back of the vest?? Many thanks Sue xx
Hi!! When you add the new yarn or change them, how do you secure the strand that's floating around???
Love this video. The instructions are very easy to follow also how you take your time to explain it by speaking slowly or showing the stitches. May I please ask where did you purchase the circular knitting needles from?
Thanks 😊
Thank you, that is so lovely to hear (: I have a set of interchangeable circular needles from Knit Pro (purchased from amazon). I can't find the exact name of the set I got but they make a whole bunch of different sets and also sell individual needles too! They are so great.. it was a bit of an investment buying a whole set but it's been an absolute game-changer for me.
Do I need to use circular needles or can I use straight ones? Because I don’t have a pair of circular ones yet
I just found this channel and I love it ! Awesome and really helpful videos :))))
Thank you so much, I'm so happy to hear that! (:
This is easy to understand! Thank you💕
That's good to hear, thank you (:
Hi your tutorial is amazing! I am just a bit confused on how you got the 45cm measurement from the cardigan you liked the fit of. What part of the cardigan did you measure to get 45cm?
Hello! Thank you (: Yeah sorry I didn't explain that very well. I just measured the width of it along the bottom edge when it was lying flat.
Can you stitch it all the way down the side when doing this vest. I love the way your version turned out but my vests usually go all the way down?
Yes you can stitch it all the way down :)
I love your channel and your creativity. The video tutorial is very informative, which cannot be said about other videos on this topic. I speak Russian and I am sure that you have such an audience too. Could you make Russian subtitles please. I understand English, but still some points are not clear.
P.s. I was so inspired by your video that I'm going to knit from it.❤
Wat size is this? So well explained
Love your videos. Is there a way to adapt this to do the whole thing in the round as I have a self-striping yarn that I would like to use?
Also instead of a v-neck it might be better to knit 2 back pieces and make a crew neck vest instead cos I imagine with the v-neck front the striping on the straps would also look quite different to the rest of the body.
this is amazing 🥺💕
thank you
New sub. This was so easy to understand.
happy to hear that! thanks (:
Thanks so much for posting this ! I will definetly give it a try :)
You are very welcome, good luck with it (:
Hi! I'm making this right now and I was wondering what the final measurements were for the orange border on the bottom of the vest? I'm at 11 rows right now and it already looks kinda thick, not sure if it's because of the yarn I used
I’m going through the same problem.I want to know the exact measurements of the vest
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!!!!!!!!
Il est magnifique ❤
Hi, I just found your channel and you are awesome!!! Thank you for being so clear and taking us through every step. (If you don't mind me dropping a request, a cardigan pattern would be really nice! Or a video on a garment that includes intarsia)
Thank you 😊 and yes, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep it in mind!
Thank you!!
I got a order for a vest today so I found this!!!
Btw I am 11 years old :)
I only have a 5mm circular needle. But I do have a 4mm needle but it's not circular. Is it alright to use that one instead?
You only need circular needles to pick up stitches for the ribbing around the armholes and neckline (see part 3) but I think it is better to use the same size or even smaller for the ribbing. Have you already bought your yarn? Maybe you can buy yarn that suits the 5mm needles.
