Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS review - sensational mid-engined Porsche driven on road and track

  • What happens when you put the screaming 500-horsepower flat six engine from the latest Porsche 911 GT3 into Porsche's brilliant-handling mid-engined sports coupe, the 718 Cayman? With the launch of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, which comes to the UK market this spring, we've finally found out.
    This is a real wild child of a two-seater from Porsche's Weissach-based GT department. It revs to 9000rpm; it'll accelerate to within touching distance of 200mph, with room enough to run into; it has proper motorsport-developed aerodynamics and adjustable track suspension; and it's the first Cayman ever to wear Michelin's very stickiest road-legal Pilot Cup 2 R tyres.
    On the market from £108,370, this car is the fastest and most hardcore Cayman created so far in the car's seventeen-year, multi-model-generation history. Fully-loaded examples will cost in excess of £140,000; which begs the question, might this car be even better than the celebrated 911 GT3? Matt Saunders took to the track at Estoril, and its surrounding roads, to find out.

But I would want this Porsche eventually since all electric next. Also check out gt4 with upgrades by smoking tires Matt Farrah. I think it's a Hagerty video. Wouldn't buy any without test driving. • @ValuedComment
      @ValuedComment 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say 'all the carbon' bits, it's basically the bonnet and front wings. I think the price would have rocketed if they'd added a carbon roof panel, doors, tailgate, bumpers etc, but you'd have seen a far more impressive weight loss than the 22 kg that the GT4 RS has over the regular GT4. And I'd have ditched the electric windows too. No need.

    • @misterpacha1

Also, for fun driving on a twisty mountain road which would you prefer: a GT4RS with PCCB and magnesium wheels, or a 992 GTS with light weight package, PCCB, and 5 lug aluminum wheels?

    'Crackpot' conspiracy theory? 911 finally gets real racecar level double-wishbone front suspension, and the Cayman finally gets a real GT3 engine, but is (of course) still relegated to strut suspension...well, who would've thunk that?
    Just admit it...Porsche will NEVER let the Cayman compete squarely with the 911.
    And for all you Cayman lovers, kiss this baby goodbye, because this is the first and last proper ICE Cayman that Porsche will ever produce.

    • @Nord_Mann

    Such a great car,! I do however wonder why they still combine some kind of plastic (or alloy?) with carbon , instead of full carbon, such as the bonnet (naca duct) and rear end (diffuser )and wing (endplates) , .... . Or is there a full carbon option for all of them? Not that it matters much on the overall looks, but from a weight reduction aspect I do wonder why.

If you do manage to get your hands on one a long time you will pay double the retail price. I walked into my dealer today to buy one…and guess what? Dealer says we might possibly get just one car and that will go to someone on the special list. So please do your review on the car and stop misleading your followers that this car is something anyone can buy.
