Being white, growing up in an all white country town, My bedroom held my 45 rpm player and was filled with records by Sam Cooke, Jerry Butler, Jackie Wilson and many more along with Elvis and Bobby Darin. Down stairs my mom and dad listened to Sammy Davis Jr., Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. My mothers favorite was , Nat King Cole and she cried like a baby for a solid week when he died. Christmas would not be Christmas without Nat King Cole's Christmas albums being played in every household. His voice was like a red velvet cake you just wanted to savor.
With the technology of today (not actually today) his daughter Natalie does this song with Nat singing with her.. I hope you can find it.. it's awesome.
Every time I hear Nat King Cole I think of my sweet momma she loved to listen to his albums! I still have the albums and when I am missing my momma I put them on and remember her smile! Thank you for this reaction ❤!
I'm glad to see brothers and sisters from the X, Y and Z generations listen and discover the once-in-a-lifetime voice of Nat King Cole. As a baby boomer, I found Nat King Cole's voice to be awe-inspiring. Even today listening to his classic songs gives me goosebumps. As a request, play "Smile" by Nat King Cole. You won't regret it!
That man. It thrills me to hear him sing. Smooth and marvelous, and sung by such a man as Nat King Cole.💖💗💕 Handsome, sweet, kind, lovely person. Glad we all could enjoy it together. Thanks 🤗
Nat King Cole was the first African American to have his own TV show, although it was only 15 minutes long. He was a true pioneer. And a great singer, and a very fine jazz pianist.
Nat’s music was among the most lushly orchestrated and romantic. His voice is unmatched. His ability to accompany himself on piano is incredible!! STARDUST!!! There Will Never Be Another You! When I Fall in Love! Mona Lisa! Nature Boy!
Such a beautiful song done in a style sadly lost in today's music. A wonderful reaction made even better by look of appreciation of fine music of the two of you...especially the pretty smile by Asia.
I've always loved this song!! I equally love when his daughter Natalie Cole sang it and added her father's original in on the track so it appeared that they were singing it together.. If you haven't heard it- you should give it a listen.
Yes! The incomparable Nat King Cole. The man just oozed class and sophistication. Such an amazing voice. It's a real shame that he died so young (age 45). I was born way back in 1954 and I remember seeing him on TV in the early 60s when my parents would be watching television. Nat King Cole was my mother's favorite singer. I think she had just about all of his albums. I still occasionally listen to some of his music. He's a true legend.
Legendary greatness stacked over 6 feet tall. One of my all time favorite artist. His music is near perfection. Not enough adjectives to describe how I love him and his music. Great reaction.
This man's tone, sound, delivery and stage presence was something to see! My husband and I are 50s babies who know all his songs! And to think he was just standing in for the singer of the combo they were in and was primarily the piano player! His timing is impeccable and that voice!!! We still miss him!! Thanks for this reaction, loved it!!
My father's childhood best friend was driving and stopped to help a couple of ladies in a nice Cadillac with a flat tire. They offered to pay him, but he said no. They wouldn't take no for an answer, so he gave them his address to send a thank you card. The next week, Sears delivered their most expensive television, with a note saying, "thanks for helping my family, Nat King Cole".
The thing that sets songs from back then apart from today's music, is that they left space in the song for interpretation. You very rarely find that today. Today's songs are jam-packed with lyrics, that there isn't room to breathe. If you were to do a cover of a modern song, you would have to phrase it exactly like the original record as there is no place else to go.
Nat King Cole had the most silky smooth voice ever, he could sing like no one else. I love watching how expressive his face is too when he sings. What an incredible talent.
This was done live with a full orchestra background.one of greatest voices of all time this was done in the late 50s .and he had his own show. This performance is as good and the original recording. Maybe my favorite song. Of all time.
Nat King Cole was huge in the 1950s. He is from my folk's era, but mom and dad would play his records all the time, especially his Christmas album, at Christmas time. What an absolutely beautiful and unique voice. He was also a wonderful Human Being, helping poor people, both Black and white. There was no "Welfare" to help you back then, only churches and charities. Nat (Nathaniel) King Cole, died of Lung cancer, at a relatively young age. Almost anytime you saw Nat, in a movie, or on TV, (He had his own tv show too.) he had a smoke hanging out of his mouth. Everyone knows his daughter "Natalie" (named after her father) who also was a famous R&B/ Gospel artist. Natalie was a huge star in the 1980s, and won a couple of Grammy awards for her music in that time period. So many songs by Nat King Cole you could play. Thank you for remembering this icon of music world wide.
So what is it about the singers of yesterday, like Louis, Ella, Sarah, Frank and Nat, that was so appealing? First it was because they and the musics composers took the lyrics so seriously. The lyrics have a story to tell, and because of Louis Armstrong, singers interpreted those lyrics. Each word, every syllable was clearly pronounced so that you could hear what they were singing. Second, these singers sang that lyric directly to you personally, and their interpretation made you feel what they felt, understand what they see. They looked right at you and kept their eyes open. Third, these singers respected their audiences. Not only did they dress for the occasion, they respected the relationships between people. They never talked down to or dressed down for their audiences. Fourth, because of all this they made the audience feel as if they knew them. Frank was the coolest guy in the room. A guy you wanted to pal around with, have a drink with, and could interpret a lyric with the best. Nat was that interesting and endearing uncle with the golden deep voice you could cozy up to. Ella was that sweet, lovable woman with the pretty voice that never hit a wrong note and could improvise like crazy. Ella was the woman that let you look deep into her soul, laying bare all her emotions. Sarah was the queen of elegance with the divine voice and incredible range. We are lucky to have had them all.
Nat King Cole was a national treasure. He was beyond doubt the King of Croon. Fabulous , voice and great charisma, he had hit after hit back in the day . Actually before my time by a decade but no one can listen to this and not understand what a phenomenal artist he was. His daughter Natalie Cole went on to have a fabulous career of her own.
One of the best voices ever, love Nat King Cole. Also Satchmo, Frank, Dean, Ella……Growing up in the 60’s we would see performances like this all the time on TV
Its hard to believe this man never knew he could sing. He was a top notch pianist who was forced to sing in a night club once and people fall in love with his voice and the rest is history. His daughter Natalie Cole was great in her own right.
Now just imagine he was the first Black Man to ever have a show on Television, even though it didn’t last very long, but it was a good show and the people who came on to support him were equally fantastic. The sad part about things back then that he couldn’t stay at the Hotels where he performed, many times not being allowed to walk into the front entrances. Also he was met with opposition when he bought his home in California, to the point where the neighbors offered to buy the house if he would just move, because he was unwelcome in the neighborhood. And i bet those fools listened to his music. What a talent, and his daughter Natalie had a great career as well. When the duet between them came out i lost it. That song in itself just was equally beautifully arranged, and you would have never thought that he passed away years before it was made. WOW!
OMG, LUV2 his voice, so smooth and soothing, there will never be another sound like his beautiful voice, can’t help but go down memory lane and remember when I was a little girl and it reminded me how peaceful the world was during his time, he is unforgettable just like the song says , he is indeed unforgettable 🙏❤️
My parents love him and play his albums all time . I still have four of his albums . My wife and I still listen to them . Especially a Christmas album of his , every Christmas it plays .
one of my favorite singers I grew up with his singing from the 50's got to see him live a few times in reno Harrah's casino club man that was a long time ago
This is such a timeless song, thanks for reacting to it. These old songs just fill your heart with warmth and peace. We need more of this in the world! You guys keep up the multi generational reactions and genres and you will be at 150K in no time. Much love to you both!!
Every Sunday I would visit my Grandmother, and she would always be playing her NKC records. At the time I was around eight, and never really paid much attention to "that mushy girlie stuff". But his voice must have left an impression on me subconsciously. A few years later my Grandmother passed away, and I asked if I could inherit her records. Now I'm in my fourties and have always tried to make time for NKC on a Sunday. I've refused to buy CD's, vinyl reissues, MP3's, FLAC's etc... My Grandmothers records are half static, half music at this point, and they sound beautiful to me. That voice... the little intonations... Magical. Thank you for this reaction. It was unexpected. I don't think I have ever listened to NKC on a week day in my life. :)
my grandfather used to sing nat songs along with sinatra songs semi professionally i miss my grandfather so much he taught me the way men should be .. kind when they need to be and fierce when the need to protect others.
Asia and BJ, 4th Impact has made a cover of Nat King Cole's daughter Natalie Cole's "Our Love". Please cover their beautiful rendition of that song. They will show you that they can bring back a 70's song with their performance. Thank you for sharing Nat King Cole's song with us.
Loved y'alls reaction, Nat is so smooth & I've always wished I could sing like him. Asia cracked me up when she said "we'd have had like 5-10 babies with this back in the day"! I almost spit out my coffee. I'm dyin!😆
My Pop would sing this to Mom! Hearing it takes to a time when I was very young & reminds me how much I miss them, it’s bittersweet but special too. THX’s ♥️ Yawl
Almost 64 ok 63 1/2 my dad was from the era that he could be forgiven? for feeling a certain way about folks with different coloured skin, my first experience of someone who wasn’t completely washed, I think I was 4 years old, his words were that man just has different coloured skin, and that was that. A fond memory of that time for me was Nat King Cole Christmas album play on the record player. As someone late to Apple Music I was delighted to find that same album. Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and others are a real treasure.
My Dads favorite singer. This is me and my sons song and Mona Lisa was me and my daughters song. I named her Lisa because of my Dad singing the song when I eas very very young. My parents danced to music too.
Great reaction/review. I grew up on 70s/80s music, but as I’ve aged, I’ve learned to appreciate the greats like Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Jo Stafford, etc. Timeless music.
Major crooner! Please check out the version his daughter Natalie Cole did by using technology after he passed. She has her own rabbit hole for you to dive into. Nat had a voice like silk. Tks you two 💕🙏 from the fifties till about the late 80s people knew how to be romantic with each other. Another romantic crooner and legend from Nat King Cole's time is Perry Como, "it's impossible" 👍😊
I sure hope that you have heard and appreciated the duet with his daughter Natalie. He's may ALL time favorite singer. I have a lot of his music in my music collection. You should check out L-O-V-E ( the Multilingual Version)
You like this check out Barbra Streisand's cover of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind" off her "Memories" album. Asia... her voice will blow your mind. Yours too BJ! Her voice is out of this Universe! Billy credits Barbra for jump starting his career as a serious songwriter. He says she does it way better and it was an honor when she came to him and wanted to record it. They're both New Yorker and coincidentally so am I. I just left NY a few years so it holds a very special place in my heart. I'm very homesick still. So please react to it! And I wanna see your big smile on this one Asia!
One of the most adored and talented artists of all time.

Class!

I was here to say the same thing. It's a beautiful tribute to her father!
I came here to say this! Natalie Cole is one of my mom's favorite singers, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/KII5be5qExs/w-d-xo.html

His voice is as smooth as silk. He became one of my top 5 in 1951 when I was 3 years old. When he had his tv show I watched every week. Pure royalty.
AMEN Brother/Sister.
Nat King Cole's voice is so smooth it makes warm butter jealous.
An unforgettable voice. A TRUE LEGEND

It's funny how simple the lyrics seem . He was a warm memory from childhood .
One of the best voices ever, love Nat King Cole. Also Satchmo, Frank, Dean, Ella……Growing up in the 60’s we would see performances like this all the time on TV
No one, could help but smile at his voice and interpretation of this song. So Beautiful and heartfelt.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Its hard to believe this man never knew he could sing. He was a top notch pianist who was forced to sing in a night club once and people fall in love with his voice and the rest is history. His daughter Natalie Cole was great in her own right.
Come on now….this was great singing. There are no antics or flashing lights and the hype. Music and a voice. Wonderful.

So lovely! You must see the duet performance with his daughter Natalie Cole. Shivers.
Nat's voice was so good. It ain't Christmas without some Nat King Cole. His daughter had a beautiful voice and a successful solo career as well.
Have you ever heard such a natural, soothing and flat out beautiful voice?
Nat 's vocal is simply pristine.
My favorite "crooner". That voice can soothe anything. So smooth and such an incredible tone. His Christmas album is my favorite.
Legendary. Nat Kong Cole is so talented!!! The song is so pleasing to listen to. So wish he was still alive.
The duet of this song with his daughter Natalie was the Father/Daughter dance at her wedding. Perfect memory.
When you look up the word "timeless" this video should be the answer

He has got to be the most effortless singer ever.
"That Sunday, That Summer" by Nat King Cole my favorite by him. Worth a listen.
This is the song we used as our first dance as a newly married couple. I grew up on Nat King Cole. I danced to Ramblin' Rose with my dad 😿
My Dads favorite singer. This is me and my sons song and Mona Lisa was me and my daughters song. I named her Lisa because of my Dad singing the song when I eas very very young. My parents danced to music too.
Absolutely beautiful love song sung with the most buttery velvet voice on the planet at the time
His voice absolutely makes me melt. It starts when I hear the opening notes and I'm transported. Greatness.
Check out the time they meshed Nat and his daughter Nataly Cole singing together. It’s beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! This was after his death.
Great reaction/review. I grew up on 70s/80s music, but as I’ve aged, I’ve learned to appreciate the greats like Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Jo Stafford, etc. Timeless music.
You need to react to his daughter, Natalie Cole, singing it with him after his passing. It is gorgeous!
I grew up with Nat King Cole. My parents just LOVED Nat King Cole!
LOVED that voice! Too bad he died before my time! Glad his music didn't die with him! My folks saw him in concert when they were dating!
Still grieving each time I hear him sing, Velvet voice.

Now you two need to hear the stereo studio version. Perfection!
As a while boy growing up in the 1950's, Nat, little Richard, Fats domino, Satchmo were my favorites. The platters and others were also enjoyed.
He sang it live, no autotuned, no background singers, just pure talent with an amazing voice.
I sure hope that you have heard and appreciated the duet with his daughter Natalie. He's may ALL time favorite singer. I have a lot of his music in my music collection. You should check out L-O-V-E ( the Multilingual Version)
The velvet in this man's voice is heavenly.
His voice calms my anxiety. Just put on one of his records and it melts away.

Nat King Cole had a unique voice as did his daughter.
I can see why he was so loved. Such a great smile and demeanor and than….bang…..let me show you silky smooth.
