    • @byHexted

@@joey22306 I think it’s sad you think that, it’s not true at all I hope you go out and look at some of the newer jazz artists like Kamasi Washington and Immanuel Wilkins who are awesome. Rock and Roll is a dying genre, it’s only being kept alive through alternative genres of it, jazz has not died at all, in mean “jazz hip hop” or whatever you want to call it was a big trend for most of the 2010s, to pimp a butterfly is hugely jazz inspired and is one of the most celebrated albums of the decade. BADBADNOTGOOD is also a great jazz trio, who even produced an entire album for Ghostface Killah where it’s all live instruments used for the beats. There really no shortage of these type of things I could name you them all day and those aren’t even underground at all.

I had goosebumps watching Louis perform and the effervescent smile he sings through, which was reflected and amplified watching Asia and BJ's reaction. Now I feel all warm, fuzzy and melancholic at the same time.

    • @steveparker8065

Legend. Louis just makes you smile - you can't help it. I first heard this song by mistake when i was 13 or 14. I had one of those "dial radios" that i used for my alarm clock. It somehow slipped to an "oldies" station and this song came on while I was running late for school. I was amazed and instead of turning it off and heading to school, I listened to the entire thing - totally enthralled. Back in '79 or so when I heard it, I simply never heard anything quite like it before. I had to hear it thru its ending.

Louis Armstrong was such an amazing singer, because you can see behind those eyes, through his music, through his smile, through his singing, through his trumpet playing, was an amazing story. He brought joy to all he sang to. Whenever I hear old folks singing, it brings tears to my eyes, because I see such a legacy they must have left, and such experience and wisdom they must have gained through the years. The weight of these lyrics always hit me hard.

Go way back to the 20's & 30's: that's when Louis taught the world how to sing with a personal vibe. He was the first one who really understood the difference between a singer on stage and a singer on recordings. People listen to recordings in their home, a one on one communication. Add in his influence on jazz and you realize he was the founder of 20th century popular music for both white and black artists: Bing Crosby, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday, Anita O'Day, Peggy Lee. They called him Pops.

Asia & BJ, I knew I was going to love this react when I saw you were playing Louis Armstrong. I had the good fortune to see him with his band live in 1962 -- in the gymnasium of my Pacific Northwest hometown! I was just a 10-year old kid there with my family. Nothing but white in the audience. But the gym was packed to the rafters and when he and his 5 piece band came out to their set (on the varnished basketball floor), dressed in formal black tuxedos, they got tremendous extended applause and cheers! Here was Armstrong and his jazz band live, right in front of us!!! When they struck up and played, we heard that legendary voice singing and playing trumpet -- complete with the ever-present white towel to wipe off his face and mouth. We loved every moment. The whole band was so cool and tight that within the first thirty minutes the entire place was swaying with them. It was an epic evening in the annals of my little hometown.
Thanks for your great react to this great video recording of a great 20th century American jazzman!

This song is timeless!!! Louis Armstrong originally recorded this song back in 1967. This song went to #1 on the British Pop chart in that same year. But it took 21 years to finally that this song cracked the Billboard Top 40 chart in the winter of 1988. It peaked at #32. All thanks to the box office hit film, Good Morning Vietnam, starring the late Robin Williams.

I have a family member, who just passed away at 100 years old, who lived in Chicago and would 'sneak' downtown to night clubs (jazz clubs) and would see a very young Louis Armstrong in person. My family member was a very pretty woman, especially when she was young. She would fondly remember how Louis would flirt with her while he played with his band, and she sat at a table near the stage area. In my family I was kind of raised on Ella Fitzgerald and so many others always being played in our home. Wonderful music.

Some people rose above all the chaos, refusing to be held down. These are some of the great men and women who in spite of it all carried themselves with such dignity and grace. Sometimes there is beauty in simplicity. Louis Armstrong mastered the art of simplicity. So good.

Louis Armstrong had an incredibly difficult upbringing, but was raised by a Jewish family from the age of 7. He felt empathy for the persecution Jews received the world over and wore the star of David until his death in tribute to them. Pretty incredible that he was able to sing about how wonderful the world is. It took a long time for his world to get that way. His story is truly one of cream rising to the top. God bless him.

Glassies leaning against the walls with their trays, waiting; bartenders, starting to tidy away... At the end of the song, all lights on... glow of the sun rising in the east, outside... fabulous...

The Great Satchamo was a national treasure. I love his music and, to your point, has an infectious smile! It's always a pleasure to hear the trailblazers of jazz and blues music do their thing and Louis was one of those......RIP Louis......

I love Louis Armstrong. I have the CD of his record of the same name, the Wonderful World album. I have listened to it too many times to count. I bought it over 30 years ago and it makes me very relaxed. God Bless Louis Armstrong. Good reaction by the way.
