      I imagine it does save the back but it transfers the work to the arm and shoulders. You’re lifting a lot of weight with that rope.

    • @lkanavaros9576
      @lkanavaros9576  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jujubegold If done correctly you should be using your biceps NOT your shoulders to lift. Curl with one bicep and push with opposite tricep and you'll maximize leverage. When done right you'll lift as much as your arms are able to handle.

    Thank you for this simple, brilliant idea! My favorite film instructor from college - and good friend of mine - died of a heart attack last winter while shoveling his sidewalk. This happens more often than most people realize, so it's very important to be careful while shoveling snow. I'll be attaching a length of rope to each of my shovels this evening, thanks to you and in honor of my friend.

      Technically the invention is now open source unless the inventor decides to patent, but because it is a simple adaptation it would be troublesome to define what exactly in the invention is an innovating.( You cannot patent the intellectual property of redistributing weight, or the bent shovel wouldn't have so many knockoff versions competing.) it is more likely he have to patent a unique rope and spindle harness.

      Just leave your shovel out in the cold. Snow sticks to the shovel because the shovel is warm inside, then snow melts and freezes to it. If the shovel is never warm in the first place, snow doesn't melt to it and doesn't stick to it.

  • @heatherthyne2307
    @heatherthyne2307 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Two other tips for sore shovelers out there:
    1) tie a knot in the rope just above the point where you're grabbing it, that will keep your hand from sliding up -- and you might want to tie a knot where you actually grab it to give yourself a better grip, in addition to the knot above where you'll grab the rope.
    1a) You might get better control and grip by using webbing -- the material that dog leashes and tie-downs are made from -- but not the thick type material which will be harder to knot and tie onto your shovel.
    2) spray your shovel liberally, front and back with WD40. Snow slides off. Another person below said to heat the shovel and apply wax, but no heat needed with WD40! And you can quickly reapply too.
    And -- if you're also using a snowblower/thrower (single or two stage, it matters not), spray the inside of the housing, all sides of the auger, and the inside of the exit chute, and if you have a two-stage, spray the impeller and the inside of the exit chute. This really keeps the snow from sticking -- especially that wet heavy snow that sticks!

    • @lkanavaros9576
      @lkanavaros9576  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. I actually do have a number of knots, even though they aren't clearly visible. A good set of gloves also improves the grip.

    The back saver model there is an imitation plastic version, the original has the bend way further down, is made of aluminum and steel, and not so severe a rise. Your rope idea keeps you upright, even the back saver can’t but for us tall guys it works great. The original is not cheap but I’ve had it for years before wearing through the steel runner up the back of the blade that houses the removable handle. I can lift a very large wet chuck of snow with it, very heavy snow, and it works.

      Thanks for watching.
      Bent shovels or ones with fixed secondary handles work ok only at one ground level and for one height person. By using my FREE method, you first save money and then you have an adjustable tool for your height and ground level. Try shoveling stairs with one of those other shovels. You'll see AND feel the difference.

      If you had your phone in your picket and were taking about shoveling snow, they know it and they aren't shy about it.
      A guest on joe rogans podcast said the words "Toyota tundra" twice. He knew little about the truck and it was just casual conversation. He later told joe that he was inundated with ads on every medium trying to sell it to him.

    This is good but there’s another way using your leg I like and can move a lot of snow with less of your back.
    You ‘dash’ or slid forward with the shovel on the ground (or wherever the shovel is full of snow), then you do a ‘knee-up’ type movement using your leg as a fulcrum point. You can nearly stand up straight, get snow on your shovel, and hike it up and away with your leg/thigh. You don’t have to bend as low and it’s not all your arms or back either.

    I shovel like a snow plow, I'll use usually one hand to push the shovel across the ground and plow the snow. I don't do that scoop and lift crap except when necessary. It's pretty darn quick, and just like with snow plows, you're plowing the snow off to the sides rather than having to lift and throw all of it. For larger heavier snow jobs, I'll put two hands on the shovel, lean over stiffly like I'm falling forward, then walk/run forward, which is again like a truck with a plow. Basically it's mostly my body weight used to push the snow, rather than force exerted by muscle, making it much easier to avoid injury. It's not only efficient, it's quick, as you can plow through a sidewalk almost as fast as you can walk or run. I'll also do multiple runs if it's going to snow a lot, so say it's going to snow a foot, I'll do it every few inches it snows so that it's easier to do the plow method. Heck of a lot better than breaking your back doing a full foot at once.
