    I have a old alpine v12 mono that I picked up off facebook for 45 bucks and it’s pushing two massive 15s like nothing

    I don't know if you've shared your opinion on full range class D amplifiers. There is a bit of a stigma about them being not as good as traditional Class A/B, but if major companies such as JL Audio, Alpine, Kenwood and Rockford are building them, then their sound quality must be good.
    I recently picked up a Focal FPX5.1200. It's a 5 Channel, all class D amplifier. I can't find any reviews or tests of it. I'm very curious to try it out and see just how good it sounds. I hope I'm not disappointed.

      I'm trying to avoid sharing my opinions on some stuff, as I don't have enough experience in the matter.

      being major company doesnt really equal to be good. it's down to the main goal. pure efficiency, balance, or pure output quality. class D amps requires high frequency switching and low dead time to be a good full ranger. i've heard a darn good class D amps that compete with class AB but they're not cheap at all for 250Wx2 output at 8Ohm. though, if we're speaking of reality, most mobile class D amp would be good enough for car environment where we're not talking about serious SQ competition

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@n.shiina8798I guess there are different levels of serious SQ competition. Many compete using JL Audios class D amps. They definitely have a reputation for SQ.
      Some of the bigger brands do make a point not to come out with low SQ amps. It's no guarantee it's super high end, but it's at least going to be what they feel is acceptable.
      On the other hand, a lesser brand full range, class d amp such as from Boss, Taramps, Dual, etc... are going to have a different level of acceptable.
      That was my point concerning brands.

      @@JasonWW2000I agree with you on JL audio but the thing is they're not making their products in the USA no more they're making them in China and they've actually went up on the price I'm done with all that

      @@jasonmurdoch9936I love products made in China. I've worked with some companies over there and they're fully capable of making very high quality products all the way down to very inexpensive products. So whatever level of quality you're willing to pay, they can deliver.

    I wonder if an XT60 plug would fit into the old Alpine amp, it look similar. I'm sure you can find that plug somewhere though.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, my guy. That's not at all an xt60. These are Molex connectors.
      If he can't find the exact connector size and shape to match what's on there, he can always buy new matching sets.

      All my research indicates that the new status amps are the same as discontinues X series just in a different heatsink. If you compare those amp, the layout of connections is identical,even the preamp adjustments are the same.

    I have an Mrp 1000 Alpine V-power that comes on but has a no sound output fault. I had a matching Mrp 500 and they were both great. Eventually I'm going to try to get the big one fixed..the 500 beat a kicker compR 12 to death back in the day at 1 ohm, lol

    alpine has release the r2-a150m at 1200w at 2ohm and 1500w at 1ohm which would line up well with your new ib3. its not the x class or status line but id assume its decent enough for subs

      Just new here, but I was thinking similarly, I always thought it was the original/ 1st gen V12 amps which was mid 90’s for sure (I remember my senior year of high school when they hit the scene )that were raved about so, and I’d had a few of the early 90’s (black alpines 3542s / 3548’s can’t recall 100 percent, and first 2 generations of V12 alpines I think I preferred my v12s seemed smoother and sweeter especially in the highs, it’s been about 20 yrs or so tho

    Very interesting compairson!
    But. Thing is:
    The pure fact of the matter is that measurements with a gloryfied volt meter does not tell you, me or anyone else how good a amplifier _actually_ sounds.
    So. Trust your own ears 😊

    • @RAW-CAt
      @RAW-CAt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, distortion measurements and frequency response surely do🤷

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RAW-CAtI'm not sure it can. If the distortion is below a certain level and the frequency response is flat enough then all of the amplifiers are going to technically sound good, but there are other factors that can make one sound better than the other.
      I think your amp tests are only going to tell you if the amp is good enough. I would not be surprised if one of the amps that had slightly worse measurements actually sounded better.
      That aside, it sounds like a very interesting video. I'll be sure to watch.
      PS, you don't have to crank out so much content in a short amount of time. I have trouble keeping up. Lol

    • @RAW-CAt
      @RAW-CAt  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonWW2000in my opinion 1-2dB difference in frequency response linearity will be much more noticeable than the actual "amp sound". That's why EQ totally changes the sound of a system. In all my videos I am trying to avoid the perception of quality as there is too much politics involved. I just present the measurements and let the viewers have an opinion on how they influence the sound.

    • @itsanarse
      @itsanarse ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think it’s half the story, the part that you can convey its definitely how it measures and compare those results to other amplifiers and DSPs. But as far as how it sounds, you just have to listen to it and that’s not something you can show on TH-cam as you know. My background is in home, hi-fi audio. I’ve never had any measuring equipment, I just know what sounds good, but the evidence is in the sound and you would have to be there to hear it. What sounds good to me what is pleasurable for me to listen to might not be pleasurable or sound good to you. Because my interests in how something should sound may differ to yours, what I expect from a set of speakers or an amplifier isn’t necessarily fact, It is open to opinion and taste, so only presenting measurements is the best thing you could do, and I thank you for your hard work
      As an aside Nerijus, this is a good watch that I think you will find interesting: th-cam.com/video/DtsmQTQAG84/w-d-xo.html

      THD+N number is one thing, slew rate and harmonic profile is another things that matters big time among other numbers. an example is how a lot of people prefer even number harmonics to be dominant than the odd number harmonics. if we're based on "i like it", then it ends there. no measurements will do any good to convince him/her. it's just like vinyl vs digital
