      That is so f****** sick to think that you need to choose of a variety of a living being. Pisses me off. They are a living being that deserves better than what they have been given over them decades and decades of. Never mind I'm not even going into detail over this s***.

    My German Shepherd barks at strangers, but that isn't only exclusive for dogs that are used as guard dogs. Every small dog I've seen are just as wary of strangers, growls, and barks (even more). One time, me and Cheyenne was taking out the garbage to the curb. I didn't have her on a leash because I was training her. My neighbor took her two unruly pugs outside, but she didn't see Cheyenne. Her two Pugs charged Cheyenne, and I had Cheyenne sit while those two Pugs did a pow-wow around her and barking. That particular neighbor always looked at Cheyenne as if she couldn't be trusted, but it was her dogs that were out of control. That was a great lesson for Cheyenne, which she passed with flying colors.

      just had a similar experience with my 1 year old male Bear. i was walking him around my neighborhood, and when i passed a particular house 5 dogs came charging at Bear. I had him on a leash but I’ve never really socialized him with other dogs so I just told him to sit and be nice (he has 3 other siblings so he hears that a lot). he sat there and let the dogs circle around him and smell him and didn’t bark one time or the lady that came to get her dogs. even got a complement from her on how much of a good boy he was. needless to say he got lots of loving and praise after that lol

    GSD is the best.. only cons- they die and you will be terribly heart broken.. I miss my mine..it was my first dog din know anything about dog training. she learned everything by herself, we used to wonder how a dog can be so intelligent like her..she was so adaptable to any changes at home, even if it was a 10 year habit within a day or two she will understand the situation and gets adapted..I used to take her for long walks without leash, in the mornings she wakes me up from bed asking me to open the door so that she can go for a short walk in the neighborhood all by herself,then comes back and lay down in the balcony.. sometimes she visits neighbor's home to get treats, never bitten anyone..they all loved her..I don't think I will ever find an intelligent dog like her. We miss her to this day..when my friend wanted to get a dog I recommended him Gsd and we found one, his family loves that boy.from my experience they are the greatest companions you can ever have ❤️

      Only if trained properly.
      I have had one for years. No problems. However, I've seen people who doesn't do that and it was hell for them - and the dog.
      I got him just before I met my now-ex-girlfriend. So, naturally "he's my dog." Luckily, as they are incredibly intelligent and loyal, he's seemingly as loyal towards my son as he is me. And lord is it fun to watch. My son and I can make him do whatever commands he knows, but my ex and mother of my child? I think the only command he would listen to is if she asked the dog to pee on her shoes! xD
      He's not aggressive towards her, but he sure as hell recognises the fact that she left and is on bad terms with me.

    My German Shepherd chills out with me all the time. She likes being with me, wherever I go, even if it's just to sit in a car for a couple of hours. She may not lay on my lap to chill out, but she does lay down at my feet while I'm sitting, and chill out, while I'm watching TV, or on my laptop computer. In fact, she's laying at my feet right now.

    • @grisall
      @grisall 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine lays on my feet - most of the time on both feet if she can arrange herself to do that - our previous GS, a male that we still miss every day, did the same - somebody here said they bring equal amounts of joy and heartache - that's so true. We say we'll never get another one but we always do.

    I got my GSD when she was 2, but I didn't know she'd been trained as an attack dog, attacking guys dressed in those protective suits, until later. She tried to attack a guy wearing overalls when I was walking her down the street! Fortunately for all concerned she missed, but only just. So I got her a muzzle for walking out in public and kept using it until she didn't look sideways at anybody. I took her past building sites and sometimes builders would come up to say hello and she'd wag her tail and want to play. That's when I got rid of the muzzle and she's been fine ever since. She loves kids and will sit there and be patted for as long as the kids want and howls with delight whenever friends and family come around.

    German shepherds do quite will alone if they are trained early on to be on the other side of the door from you and then eventually on the other side of the door with you far away where they can't even smell you. You start out with small increments of time gradually increasing, they must always have something to chew that is like a pig ear, a marrow bone, a bully stick, a huge Kong ball that has been stuffed with food and frozen. Small frozen food Kongs used in your kennel training when they are pups and gradually increasing in size over time as they age will go along way to helping your dog with any separation anxiety that it may have.
    Also humans should always act like it is no big deal to leave the house. If you give your dog any attention when it's whining, you're exacerbating the problem yourself and you get what you deserve for it. No matter the breed, I simply tell my dogs "stay and be good, doggies/boy/girl" in an upbeat voice and leave. Done deal, easy as pie. Starting out, leave thoroughly, come back in 5, 10, 15 minutes. Practice this frequently and then change the amount of time you're gone so that he never knows how long you're gonna be gone, but learns that you will always be back.
    If you can't do that, just get a crossbreed with a Songshi Quan/Chow Chow, an Akita or some other dog breed that is independent & aloof and doesn't absolutely have to have the attention or be in constant contact with you because it's sacred duty to you for giving it a home is to watch and to scare off any would-be Intruders. Livestock guardian breeds - not the shepherds, the guards - are more about the watching than the being & working with, they take their solemn sacred duty of watchguarding to the nth degree. Close proximity is good enough for them because they are also territorial and they have to watch after the property, since you are not there, leaving them to do it, so they do well by themselves.
    Note: my AmStaff and my American Pit Bull Terrier always did well by themselves without tearing up anything so I assume you could probably cross breed the German shepherd with one of those breeds and get a more independent, less anxiety-ridden dog. Personally, I think the anxiety comes from the way people treat the dog when they're about to leave, as I have had quite the variety of dogs that I have raised from pups, whether it was a single dog or a pack of dogs that had been slowly added to, none of them ever had a problem when I left. And no they were not always left in their kennels - after about a year old, they were allowed free rein.
    After having been taught down/stay and even sit/stay, and some door manners, I think since they were where I left them, when I got home, as far as I know they were there all day long or went and got a drink of water, went to munch some food and came back to the spot They chose themselves to down-stay or sit-stay upon my leaving, waiting for my return because I had said "stay and be good doggie/boy/girl". They must have taken it literally. They were usually right there near the door, laying there, just waiting. Just knowing I would be back, the same way I left. No big deal.
    Another thing to note, I don't make it a big stinking deal when I get home either. I just say a very empassioned HELLO THERE! And go deposit my purse, coat, grocery, burden, whatever, and do whatever necessary immediate thing I have to do...and wait until I have that sit still moment to actually pet the dog(s). It makes everything that much calmer. Of course, I'm talking to them as I do all this, and they are following me around the house, but it dispells the mania that can happen if you do it any other way. Your treatment at the door has a lot to do with the anxiety , going and coming.

      I'm looking for a dog that can come to work with me. He'll have to wait outside the workshop for 3 hours at most without seeing but I usually won't be more that 100 feet away. It has to be good around kids and cats. Not smell too much. And it has to be quiet at night but it will sleep in my room. It also will have to be able to come hunting with me and because of that it must be extremely obedient. Do you think a German shepherd is a good choice?

    As for long walks, I never give my German Shepherd walks on sidewalks, or exercise on any cement, because of the possibility of getting hip dysplasia, or stressing out her joints. Her exercise largely consists of playing fetch in the yard. She's a house dog, 100%, but when she goes outside, which she loves to do, we do have a fenced in yard that isn't huge, but adequate for her exercise, or chilling out. She's 10 yrs old, but acts like a 5 yr. old most of the time. She just takes more breaks now, in between throws, the longer we play. My biggest tip would be... buy a good quality kibble dog food (I feed Cheyenne "Eagle" dog food-purple bag), and never over feed her (1 cup- twice a day), and give no human food. The water in my town is terrible, so I buy 1 gallon jugs of "distilled" water from Walmart (about 90 cents ea.), which all of us drink. If there's no distilled, I'll get the "drinking" water. She's our baby, and we want her to be healthy.

Belle is my pretty girl and she’s around 83 pounds, and Bear is my big boy at around 94 pounds. the smaller 2 are also from the same litter, 7 months old, and they’re also half labrador. Titan is all black, is a little crackhead inside of a dog, and he’s about 70 pounds. Lastly: Tiny is the runt of the litter who thinks he’s the alpha of the pack, and he’s about 60 pounds. i honestly don’t know what i’d do without any one of them

    If you cant spend enough time with your GSD, it is not a dog for you.. lol... And that's why this is a great video. No roundabout trash talk. You've got no time to spend with it, do not get a GSD. You've got money problems, don't get a GSD. Sounds harsh but it is a reality that others tend to gloss over with the "a dog will love you as you are; rich or poor". Reality of life: no money, no honey, no doggie!!! Whilst the GSD will still love poor old you, the fact is that before you get a GSD, do consider the realities of life, GSDs live more than a decade of years and you need to be able to keep that in mind. Know that it will be there for you but will you be there for your GSD?

    Didn't realize they aren't supposed to get a bath more that 4 times a year. Mine gets groomed every two weeks, she seems fine though. Also I leave mine alone while I'm at work and she's never destroyed anything other than her own toys. Not one shoe or pillow on the couch. She's never barked at a stranger or another dog. I also have a great pyrenes that I adopted a few months after getting her and they do fine together. The only problem with her I have is that she pees on the floor everyday when I get home and try to put her leash on to go outside, which I believe is just from excitement. GSD's are great dogs and I'm so happy I have her.

    • @enriktigasna
      @enriktigasna 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting groomed isn't like getting a bath. They have expensive stuff and are professionals so they probably know what to do. Once every two weeks still seems excessive tho. Like once every 2 months seems more like it idk tho since I'm not a GSD owner

Now I'm looking for a German Shepherd puppy I live alone my kids are all grown and gone does anybody know where I can get a German Shepherd puppy about 3 to 6 weeks old. I'm a US Marine veteran and I don't have much money. Can anybody out there help me ❓

    Con- if you do not get them trained to chill out while you are away, prepare to have literally everything you own that they they can reach destroyed. They don't care how much it's worth they will chew it until it's worthless and in a million pieces. You better have a yard if you're thinking about getting one.

    One piece of advice I always give to people that are considering getting a GSD is that they are a very intelligent breed and you need to be smarter than the dog. This alone should rule out a lot of people from owning one.

    I don't want my boy trusting strangers😂 that's why i got a gsd. It did take a lot of training so he didn't run off or bark at people. The chances of a person getting my boy to be friendly when breaking in our house is extremely unlikely and we like that.

    "Yes, this DOESN'T include furniture."? Huh?
    This video explains why our only, relatively close neighbor always left their German shepherd outside at night to get into our garage cans, regularly - I mean almost every night. They didn't exactly have a large home, and no fenced-in yard; and only had one child, a pretty tame, teenage daughter, my sister's best friend, whose parents, obviously, were a little older, themselves. I guess they wrongly thought that this was the best dog for them, since they were German, themselves. The ridiculous thing was that you would rarely see the dog outside during the day. I believe that once or twice, the girl actually had the dog on a leash, out for a walk, which is clearly quite ironic. If we hadn't moved right before I entered high school, I would have been over to their house, telling them to either keep their dog inside at night, or I would be forced to do something about it myself, since my older brother and I were the ones who had to clean up the garbage.

    Hi im thinking of getting a GSD and just want to know your opinion on wether i should, i own a cockapoo who isn’t overly friendly but never gets aggressive apart from barking at certain dogs from a distance from what i guess is fear, she is quite jealous especially of my cat and will go out of her way to steal a spot from my cat to lay on. Its hard to put together but i have the time and want to put all the effort i can into properly training a GSD but im just not sure if going for a more easy family dog like a lab would be better

    Watch for Hip Dysplasia..... I suggest have the Hips Rated .... I have had 5 all lived more than 10 years last 14 years. Died from a tumor I (In my opinion) believe was due to using Round Up weed killer had a nose tumor.....bleed. Again, my opinion. Yes, they need exercise. I have open fields and allowed her to run, no you will not lose a GSD. I would have another one but at 71 it would not be Fair to the dog. Bottom line imo they are great Dogs. I did most of the work, but she was closest to my Wife, our Princess.... Hose trained at 8 weeks. Few accidents usually after a prime rib diner bone I came home at lunch 4 hours alone. 8 hours was the max. (alone) .

    Point1, this isn't a dog for starters. These dogs, like all shepherds has to be trained, has to run every day to get their energy out. Point2 A German has only one boss where he has commitment to. Point3 they are so good guardians, and they will do everything they can to protect the family. I owned 5 Germans in the 80s 90s 00s the last one had the colors of a wolf, some people thought it was a wolf, but she was so sweet as candy, although she won all the prizes from her training. Enka von Hulshaus, Don von Heirweg, Lizzi von Heirweg, Boris von Trochenbach and Boa von Heirweg. At this very moment I own a Pumi, it's a Hungarian Shepherd, also needs a lot training and attention, but a really sweet character. All these dogs are sweet if they get the right upbringing. But my all time favorite race will be a German Shepherd, but I live now on a apartment and that is not a good space for such a beautiful dog. The Pumi is smaller and the right size.
