Last time I tried to play this, everyone started changing alliances and texting secret plots with their phones, then after about 3 turns everyone got bored and quit, leaving me the winner by default. 10/10 would recommend.

How can they change alliances exactly? The teams are all set at the beginning of the game, with not way to switch sides

dire time of mass migration? Migration happened a lot in the last 1000 years. Where have you been? "destroying" a race? Y'know if people live under the sun they get darker, if they live in colder climates they get lighter... a little cross breeding and whammo, right back where you started. There's no race btw. There's countries, there's people from countries, there's lighter and darker. How light can you be to get white? Does Czech Republic count as white?
oh i understand you completely. There probably are some aspects that are demonized because of the overall reputation and generalization of a massive, mob minded, audience. Still, it represents something and the uniform can't be taken out of that context, or in the hypocrisy accused by the punks by wearing it. yadda yadda. I don't think your statement sounds crazy. I do think that "history is written by the winners" is entirely an inaccurate... motto. History was written... then our interpretation changes what was written. Many years ago my Air Force buds and I played an epic game during a three-day weekend. We started early Friday afternoon and played till late Saturday. Each country had an overall Commander In Chief plus Army, Navy, and Air Force commanders. The Commander In Chief assigned overall goals and dished out the IPCs to each Force commander to use as required towards their assigned goals. We were dog-tired at the end, but what a game!!!
That honestly sounds incredible. I gotta find me some folks to do that with!

I played this with some friends while in the Air Force. We would start on a Friday evening and would play the same game throughout the weekend. At one point, I had a question about Heavy Bombers that was not addressed in the rule book, so I wrote to Milton Bradley and asked them. They replied, but I do not remember what their response was. It did answer the question, as I remember. If you are going to play this game, bring a bunch of Snickers bars or some thing else to eat, because you will be there a long time.
Please stay in 2017...believe me, it won´t get better.

I still own the first edition Axis and Allies I bought when I was 14,way back in '86.
It all started in the summer of '86
Part of Milton Bradley Gamemaster series, that included "Conquest of Empire" awesome Roman Empire game and "Broadsides and Boarding Parties " a Pirate game with 2 large rigged ships. I owed all three but there 2 more, I think.
A Shogun based one and one about the invasion of US.
Played the hell out of the original Axis & Allies in the Navy and later in EMS. Good times.
I wish they would reissue Conquest of the Empire and Broadsides and Boarding Parties.

I own several editions of A&A and the Anniversary edition (the one being shown) is my favorite. It has the best rule system, best tech research, and the prettiest board. It's also very hard to find anymore, as it's out of print and thus rather expensive. But if you can get your hands on one, you'll like it a lot...maybe even more than the huge Global version.
Can buy the zombie one brand new now, think I'm gonna get it this weekend.

I used to play the older game with my friend for HOURS. Great game!!!
This gets you the gist of the game but just be known you WILL have a few times where you and other players take a 20-30 minute break to research a unique situation that isn't exactly covered by the rules. Such a good game. the old rule books just sucked, I can't wait to see the new rule book. hopefully it's better.
Really? My dad has an original copy of the game, and it's my favorite board game of all time. The rule books didn't leave that much out, but trying to figure out if you can exploit them is one of my favorite parts! Plus, I usually win those arguments, even if every time I do, the traitorous dice turn on me and my entire operation crumbles in one failed invasion.
"Sucked" may have not been the best choice of words. Maybe more ambiguous. All I know is every time we play there will inevitably be a 20-30 min argument of how certain rules can be interpreted.

I got this edition when it was first released and had the original. This edition is a great improvement. It is beautiful and plays smoother. It also has an END that doesn't require 14+ hours of play.

There's a wargame called Campaign for North Africa. According to Wikipedia (a reliable source, as always), a campaign can run 1500 hours.

I always felt this game depended more on random dice rolls more than strategy. The best mainstream game of its kind ever made, but no substitute for the many classic Avalon Hill games that inspired it.

Only time I made it through this game completely was on the MEU. We had the original, Europe, and pacific versions set up in the birthing common room and spent 3 months taking turns while we were stuck on the boat.

Got over 30 years ago. Together with some advanced research and troop development rules from a board-game magazine back then it’s still one of the best games.

I dont, this was made to teach us the game but on points like how planes work she skipped it and told us to use the rule book to learn how to play, which was what we were trying to avoid by watching this
me and my friends used to love to play this back when I was in High School. Took forever to set up. The game itself sometimes took a Long time too. but it was fun.

Imagine being Germany, and actually cannot attack or move because you don't have fuel, logistics, industry, manpower and tanks that didn't break their transmission every 100 km ;-)

It isnt Axis and Allies unless someone sends the board across the room in a fit of rage over the worst possible dice rolls that competely annihilate a strategy which took a day and a half to set up. Then no one talks to anyone else for another day. Its not a family friendly game. I dont recommend Wizard for family game night either.
Have play many games and no one has ever done that. hahah. Looks like you or the people you play with might have rage problems.

I’ve been playing A&A since the 80’s.
IMO the biggest problem is that each country has 1, maybe 2, strategies for victory. If you don’t use them, and another player does, you lose. Which means, as someone who has been playing since the 80’s, I almost never play anymore because I know the game too well and it’s very hard finding other players of that skill level.
