This video has some of the most useful ideas we have discussed on this channel. It took a ton of thought to make this model as simple as it is. But simple doesn't mean easy. The ideas are fairly sophisticated, and it's not always easy to see them in a pose. Come and practise them plus much more by joining in the full challenge - link is in the description! When you sign up for a free account, you can also access our reference library for your general life drawing practice, plus our lovely community :)
Que bueno! Los osteópatas no unen, tu nos divides. Sumamente interesante. Dime por favor que pincel y que tinta usas para mantener los pelos del pincel sano?
Kenzo this is an unbelievable offering and to think you are doing it for no charge is amazing. Thank you so much for the time, attention, and value you are providing to the community. Bravo!
I just finished the Fresh Eyes Challenge. I feel so much more confident in drawing figures. It's great practice, it's free, and you can get feedback from others. I feel like I went from beginner to intermediate over the two weeks it took me. Big thanks to Kenzo!
The "Attaching the Legs" section proves this is a good video and teacher. Due to pride or just not knowing, too many art "teachers" refuse to give a anatomical point for the top of the thigh. At the ASIS when all anatomy is accounted for.
Thank you, hard not to drown in the TH-cam "change only one thing to become a pro artist" - tutorial swamp. You really bring clarity and a good place to start and grow from!
Excellent explanation. I love your sense of humour! I am hoping that my internet will function well enough in my small fishing village in Mexico to be able to join the live sessions as well as complete this challenge. Thank you so much Kenzo (and I also imagine help from your family :D ) for doing this !!!!!
Thanks Jack! If your internet doesn't hold up, don't worry there will be recordings. Yes my family really supports me so much. Even my 3 year old daughter understands (most of the time) I can't play as much as I normally do at the moment
"...I use it as a pencil case because I find that a lot more useful" hahahahahah I hit the subscribe button at the very same moment, that is the humor that made the world better!
Kenzo, Congratulations for these most useful mini tutorials. The way you simplified the major formes/shapes of the body, helps us tremendously to understand the human anatomy and to draw quick gestures in minutes in every possible pose.
wow, this is exactlly how our teacher in fine art school explains the quick poses we try to do with the model. Thank you I hope I can get better in my drawings
Such excellent lesson with great explanations and descriptions of the body parts and structures, Kenzo. I’m so glad to see that you’re hosting and leading this challenge, and that it’s free! Thank you for all that you do for the figure drawing community!
Took a few years of life drawing in college. I wish I had seen this first! Simplifying the shapes, some of which are fixed, some of which are malleable, and relating that to anatomy was a real eye opener for me. Looking forward to more!
Wow, that was so clearly explained. I signed up last night after watching one TH-cam. After playing with the ideas, I noticed today that in my doodling, the results were simultaneously more artistic, expressive and realistic. The doodling part was also more fun...that says a lot because I always have fun doodling, which is why I do it. I can feel my doodling turning into drawings. I love how expressive you are in your videos and how much fun you are having as well.
Owww man this is gold, every beginner and not too beginner uses a cube or any thing to represent the torso, but that its bad to draw shoulders and arms correctly making some mistakes, this helped me so much
i came to learn drawing BUT ended up a anatomy lesson. its soooo interesting. btw, if you go to those plastic body exhibition, you will see even MORE amazing things about the human body..
Coming one month too late to follow this course live, but I have registered and am going to follow it step by step. Awsome resource you have put together in that site and in this video. Thanks a LOT!
Love Life Drawing, thanks!!! I never looked at the clavicle arm intersection, before. I focused too much on the shoulder blades. Very clever, thank you!
Wow the squashing midsection tip has connected so many dots in my head as to why I'm constantly redrawing the torso area and why my proportions are usually off. This is the useful stuff I never seem to find in the anatomy books. It's rare that I see my art improve so soon after watching a video but this did just that, thanks!
This is the easiest to understand tutorial of drawing the anatomy in my view. Its striped down (excuse the pun!) to leave just the essential points to look out for. We love to over complicate our approach and get lost in doing so. But Kenzo not only guides us to what we should be noticing but more importantly what we must not be distracted by. And he adds humor into a very dry subject! Bravo...I'm off to draw. Oh and his dog is absolutely delightful :)
Much gratitude for this tutorial and the 10 day challenge. This tutorial breaks things down to very simple forms. The basic shapes that squish or stretch, pivot... ahhh, i can see it better already.
The explanation was really great Had been practicing chest and pelvis (twist, turn, perspective) but kept getting stuck at adding limbs This video is gonna make the whole process much more easier
Thank you, Built up the courage to finally start learning and practicing again. These courses are incredibly helpful. Love your way of teaching, It really makes you grab the concept. I feel like other tutorials skip up on a great deal of basic knowledge and hence it becomes incredibly frustrating to follow along. Hoping to stick with the habit this time and draw daily.
I'm beyond excited for this challenge. Figuary this year has still been fun so far, but without Kenzo's instruction, it's felt like something was missing compared to previous years. Can't wait to crack on with it!
Hello Kenzo, just came back here to say thank you... I discovered your page three days ago and I was very excited about your wonderful material, really generous! Deciding to dare the fresh eyes challenge. I need not only to improve, but to lose the rust! I go very slowly, among other things, for work reasons. In fact, I still on day 1, but the method is so good that one begins to notice benefits from the beginning. I don't have the courage to share my sketches in the community yet, but I've walked through it and it's very inspiring. I will continue the fresh eye challenge despite my slow rhythm. And I aspire to go through all the tutorials later. Greetings from a Venezuelan, from New York... God bless you for all
This is so heeeeeeeeeelpful!! thanks a million!!!! I always ended up with the abdomen area being to long and with this video I'm solving this problem! THANK YOU!!!!
Been looking around for a good book or program for learning how to draw figures. This program shines so much brighter than any book or online program I've come across. Bravo! I'm excited to try!
You break down these concepts into digestible chunks of information. This channel is helping to make the often frustrating task of life drawing more doable. Thank you!
This is so excellent in the way the parts are broken down into these simplified shapes. This will help so much with those 15, 30, and 1 - and 2 minute gesture drawings. Thank you, MSG Leum
Hey... I just wanted to say thank you! Only today, did I get to the part of the 10 day challenge. Have been listening and reviewing the content before this. And it's great content! Super helpful! Sure apprecate your support!
Excellent video, to understand the dynamics of the rib cage and the pelvis and how the arms and legs are joined (the shoulder thing drives me crazy, now I understand it better). Also taught with humor. Your videos are excellent. I hope your throat gets fixed soon. Thank you very much for all the work you dedicate to us, and also offer us these 10 days. Regards and Health. (Saludos y Salud in Spanish)
This is such a great video to get started with figure drawing! I love how siimple you make the shapes! I've been a professional landscape painter for 40+ years, and am thrilled to get started making better figure drawings! Thank you for this course!❤
This is excellent. I've been surfing around for tutorials and I favor yours, it is thorough yet simple. I also appreciate the atmosphere of support your videos foster. - Dano's GF
24-Dec. Christmas eve, was a lucky day for me. Never heard about this series and I stumbled upon it. After going through some videos randomly, joined the Fresh Eyes series. Watched the first video for TWO minutes and started seeing the "angle -squash-thing" in a newspaper photo! YOU ARE A GENIUS. And a SAINT to be doing this for the community 🙏🏽 I live in India, but now believe in Santa!
Just starting the Fresh Eyes Challenge, wish me luck! :) Thank you so much for offering this for free, it's amazing that it's available at any time as well. And I like the jokes in the video :D
Very happy with your explanation. Thank you so much for sharing. It’s all very new to me. I am excited to try to respond to your challenge. I found the invitation a bit late in my mailbox so tomorrow the first thing to do will be to find the assignments and to practice. Good luck for everybody !
Great video! I adore the look of the drawing being done at 12:44. Does anyone know what materials are being used to accomplish this? Is that some kind of brush pen and something else?
Mmmmm Might try it out if I ever get the time to do so... Seem interesting way of doing it form what I understand it bassicly matching the block given to the ref... sond kinda fun like... some type of Puzzle game or something ....
Learned about the similar shapes from Will Weston, so this just confirms further his lessons. Also, connecting the shoulders to the torso drove me nuts, especially when raising the arms. That's until I've learned about Loomis and Reilly, where I find out I can just draw it like a cape draped over the shoulder joints, instead of the bloody ball, like in so many how to draw books. Thank you for your lessons!

Thank you so much. Knowing where to put the collarbones in relation to the ribcage shape has eluded me in my years of life drawing. This is so helpful and I'm excited to tackle more complex dynamic poses with the arms above the head! Thank you!

This is kind of magical. It makes so much sense and makes the figure so comprehensible to my eye. I'm kind of dazzled.
Love to hear that Ariana!
wow, this is exactlly how our teacher in fine art school explains the quick poses we try to do with the model. Thank you I hope I can get better in my drawings
The best figure drawing channel on all of TH-cam!
Thank you so much 😀
I love Maggie’s long-suffering expressions! Looking forward to the next ten days!
I know poor Maggie. She wants a cuddle and to go to the park, not to be the star of an art channel
@@lovelifedrawing That’s what she gets for being such a natural talent. I’m sure there’s lots of cuddles and play ahead for her.
My dog loves that wooden-man/ mannikin! i gave it to him since I wasn’t learning much from it.
hehe it is a great chew toy for sure
you are the greatest, your work on figure drawing is helping me more than drawing curves, asymmetric curves help but this is the gold gold gold
The dog is so patient being poked in several different ways mutiple times 🤣 🐶 Very helpful video btw!
