Speaking of daily sketching, have you done a sketch for our holiday challenge yet? If not, set a goal to submit something today at proko.com/challenge.
Eliza Ivanova is a whole inspiration factory! Her approach to daily sketching and experimenting without pressure is a game-changer. The way she plays with shapes, minimalism, and overlapping images is pure genius. Definitely dusting off my sketchbook after this one! 🔥
I agree with the mantra of drawing at least once a day...literally ANYTHING, like a side profile of a face, or a weird gecko...It helps so much in my experience!
right now i have my own challange i try to sketch all 151 kanto pokemon every day i draw one entire evolution and i see improvement in my lines and stuff
8:07 I definitely agree with having ready to use tools. I love watercolors, but I think they can be a hassle sometimes, and pencils and pens are always ready , easy to bring and they don't require drying time. Also, when I buy a paper that wasn't as great as I thought it was, it often fits with another medium.
Great video with Eliza. I have recently started doing references from videos, so it's good to know an actual pro does the same. Also, I get very hard on myself if I don't practice daily, there is that urgency. Good to know that I'm not crrazy and pros are like that as well. Those pentel red tip leads for the mechanical pencils are beautiful.
The sketches are so beautiful. I used to study art and love to draw. I haven’t drawn in a decade and I am afraid to…but I think I can do 1 sketch a day. Maybe if I do 10-20 minutes sketches? I am short on time as I have a baby as well…
Fitting that kind of practice in can be hard. But if you can set aside the kind of time that you mentioned for it, it can be a good respite from all of the other things you have to do as a parent. We hope you're able to give that a try at some point!
One thing I'd love to hear more about from Eliza is her preliminary curating process for the references used on these. By that I mean : does she have a folder ready filled with already selected images, queued up for use for the next study session whenever time allows (therefore the session is more about assembling/interpreting them in interesting ways, rather than looking for them) ? Or is this more of a completely random instant pick from some various sources (Proko pose libraries, various books and websites, IG posts ...) and then "making it work" ? I think this would be very interesting to talk about as such prelimnary curating steps seem fundamental here and certainly do take some time and ressources, as this is much more than just random sketchbook jotting. Thanks !
We're recording something with Eliza soon that may answer some of those questions. It won't be out for a while but I'll see if I can get those questions in.
@@ProkoTV Hello, appreciating the reply ! In the meantime I'll definitely try out a few things to figure it out. I am used to collecting/curating references specifically for a future planned task or a specific project, but never done so as a sketchbook prep - and thinking about it now this seems quite liberating. Perhaps even printing out a few ref sheets in advance for future use, to slide at the end of the sketchbook, ready to go ... Thank you for all the hard work !
@danielwilliams7161 I always want to see a mangaka's personal drawings because they usually draw for work and the person whose drawings I'm most curious about is Urasawa. He has a TH-cam channel, but he usually draws the character he has drawn before. I've always been curious about Urasawa's personal drawings. I hope they bring it to this channel.
@@matt_b5551 it's basically paper rolled up in a super tight bundle. Anything with some fiber can be used. Even a cotton q tip if compressed enough. Beware using you're finger because of the oils.
I've just started drawing for realsies. I draw every day. But it's the same thing. The human anatomy, faces bodies , boobs... you know, the usual😅. But I'm not learning anything new from it. What do you suggest i draw? I saw where someone said they draw all the different Pokémons. What else could be a good subject?
I suggest drawing the figures in a setting. Backgrounds are a subject all by themselves. If you feel like you’ve plateau’d with figures, try putting them in a scene. Draw a woman drinking coffee in a kitchen. A man or child in a market. It will allow you to keep hoping your figure drawing while learning new textures and adding a sense of story.

I wish proko forgets and continue this series forever so much to learn as a beginner
Love this series, Ivanova is a master of simplicity, her portrait sketches are beautiful, she’s a magician w a pencil and stump!

She is so stunningly talented! I can barely believe the level of talent on these pages.
Omg Eliza is legendary, please have her teach beginners how to draw what we see. So hard to get proportions and stuff right
These sketchbook tour series are really great.
Excited to watch another sketchbook video 😍
Wow, really enjoyed the video. Related to much of what she was explaining and pointing out. Thank you, Proko.

Omg i met Eliza at Lightbox! She reviewed my portfolio and she was incredibly nice, her art is awesome!

We actually have something with Eliza planned. But we'll talk more about that on the channel in the future 🧐
Definitely do screen grabs of videos & draw along side while the video plays. Doing this at different intervals too, so the time is limited
The G.O.A.T
i love her so much!
i was waiting for this one :D
She is so amazing.
This’s amazing
OMFG I LOVE ELIZA IVANOVA SO FCKG MUCHH
She sketched like she gonna submit her actual homeworks.
meanwhile, I sketch like the whole book was simply entertainment..
Amazing work!
BRILLIANT!!!1
I wish this didn’t give me anxiety to draw but I was anxious to draw already 😅
wwaiting for james gaurney
Thankyou.
please make a video with naoki urasawa
I'd love to hear his thoughts on writing. His characters are always so convincing and human. Stan Sakai would be a fun one too

Elisa Ivanova and Gwendoline Christie look very similar, the eyes, mouth and more similarities, sign of beauty, like her art ❤️
I will draw nothing but realistic temperatures, taste and sounds in my new sketch pads . I do like a challenge .
Is that gesture drawings?
Turok was the game that I fought my brother for the right to play on the N64.
Anyone knows where to get the blending tool that she uses?
It's called a blending stump and you can get them at pretty much any art supply store. Online should have a lot of options too
Does anyone know what Eliza used for shading, please? Was it some kind of charcoal stick?
probably a blending stump
9:05 yes large blending stump & pencils
Thanks for replies, never heard of a blending stump before, but I guess it's better than using your fingers 😅
