Bacon's Bodies: Trapping the Convulsive Figure

Art historian Patricia Failing looks at a range of Francis Bacon's figure paintings, including his 1969 triptych "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" (on view at the Portland Art Museum until March 30, 2014), and considers the work of several writers who have tried to analyze viewer responses to Bacon's imagery.
