  • Opening program for Jeffrey Gibson, “the space in which to place me,” on view April 20-November 24, 2024 at the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Italy. Gibson's selection marks the first solo presentation of an Indigenous artist representing the U.S. Pavilion.
    “the space in which to place me” is commissioned by Kathleen Ash-Milby (Curator of Native American Art, Portland Art Museum), Louis Grachos (Phillips Executive Director, SITE Santa Fe), and Abigail Winograd (Independent Curator) and is presented jointly by the Portland Art Museum and SITE Santa Fe.
    Opening programs were performed by Colorado Inter-Tribal Dancers; Oklahoma Fancy Dancers; Anthony Hudson/Carla Rossi as Drag Clown in Residence, Confederated Tribes of Grande Ronde and Siletz; Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, G. Peter Jemison, Heron Clan, Seneca Nation of Indians; poet Layli Long Soldier, Oglala Lakota; and musician Laura Ortman, White Mountain Apache.
