People underestimate the RX8 chassis. It has one of the highest body rigidity of all cars. Including that area and tires it will give you incredible confidence on track. So he can push it way harder and maintain momentum which will easily make up for horse power difference.
also a difference in the drivers. Someone needs a bit more selfconfidence and confidence in the car as well. listen to his exhaust while driving around he's hesitating everywhere
the special edition RX8 (Shinka Edition) had suspension cross member injected with foaming urethane improving performance and ride quality. also had unique suspension tuning with thicker 14mm damper shafts (up from 12mm)
@VistasSrinagarun if you haven't seen their video on it, tall Ben's S2K was having a lot of trouble. The ECU kept cutting power, which is why it sounds like he's getting off throttle. Something wrong either in the engine build, the tune, or both.
2nd gen Rx8’s are super underrated. Fixed a lot of the bugs from the 1st one. Great handling chassis and the rotary power band make it a formidable track car.

Nope..those were fine.. But the power gain by just doing intake bridge port on genesis rotary is only halfway for making the power.. Biggest restriction of genesis rotary were from the exhaust port.. especially to make over 200whp on wheels

Its just the renesis iron plate type exhaust port design were bad for performance (and major cause of rx8 burning seals problem).. Easy route out usually is hybrid build with rx7 housing for that pheriperal exhaust port.. 🤭😅

It's like they would say in OG Top Gear, "When the laps look slow, those are some of the fastest ones." Maybe there's a difference in camera stabilization, but the RX8 looked positively pedestrian in both the in car and outer shots. Thorn has some smooth inputs and the RX8 suspension geometry is such a king at absorbing road imperfections. That RX8 looked unfazed.

to the S2K defense, to drive at WOT at all times is the SKETCHIEST thing you can do if you want to run fast. it's such a scary car to drive at the limit with no aero. just came down to driver really.

rx8 chassis is far more rigid than s2k, its a roadster the roof is missing if you give the rx8 any credit give it that chassis performance its top notch. s2k:7,100 Nm/deg vs rx8 30,000 Nm/deg rx8 match the 911 of the time. and.... rx8 by.... finish the vid!
Even deducting the 2,5-3 secs from S2000's time, RX8 wins easily. Rigid chassis with aero and tire grip against more power in any track with more turning than straights give the same result.

I think the Honda guy doesn’t understand how great the 8 chassis and handling is. Imo it’s one of the best in its class and better than many in a class or 2 above. Poor thing just doesn’t have enough power. That’s why I put 20b in my last rx8. Absolute weapon. 600hp in that chassis if fun AF

I have a 500 rwhp 1993 NSX and had a 430rwhp FD, 2013 PRHT Club Sport MX5 and a few other cars. My brother is an inferior driver and the nanny systems on his RX-8 and 2011 TL SH-AWD makes up for so much. RX8 win doesn't surprise me because of the 275 tires and a longer wheel base.
This is with a just broken in freshly rebuilt bridgeported motor. Doesn't get healthier than that. They just don't produce much power. Still very impressive nonetheless give it weighs probably £150kg more than the s2k and produce 40 less peak whp. Something about rotaries makes them always end up being faster than the whp would imply. Maybe it's the linear power delivery leading to greater area under the curve of the whole dyno graph.
@@bobjames1521You lose a lot of power to the brigeport. If you really want to push the RX8 on power, you have to go for the streetport. If you make the RX8 lighter, the S2000 would have no chance.
I have an idea... do this again but do the SAME mods to each car next time. stock vs stock time stock vs stock with same brand coilovers time stock vs stock with same brand coilovers with same size tires time etc etc etc DONT touch the engines / power till after the suspension and aero is sorted , THEN start adding hp ( stock engines only ) ( exhaust , intake , fuel , etc ) then at the very end you can open the engines up and "build" them.
Yep. Like I've been saying. Rx8 is a diamond in the rough and prices will slowly start to climb as time goes on. These kids from gears and gasoline did everything possible to make the rx8 slower than stock with the bs mods that make it slower, and it still whooped the s2000 and has back seats. As someone who owns an rx8, I really don't see prices ever increasing that much to be honest. I love mine but to be a less powerful successor to the FD, combined with sketch reliability, being severely underpowered, not conducive to boost and worse gas mileage than a v8 with half the power, people are never really going to be that into them.
@@TBIRD0625 prices will rise as there's less and less of them around and the idea of having the last most advanced and reliable rotary will make it even more appealing simply for historic significance... that's not true that they are less reliable. You see rx7s needing just as many rebuilds if not more especially because there is more to go wrong with the turbos and spaghetti vacuum hoses,etc. Rotary shops are filled with rx7s and only 1 or 2 rx8s. Renesis is a simple design compared to the REW and a more powerful one since it makes almost the same power stock as an fd but with no turbos at all. Stock for a stock, it's a better motor. And many owners who own both say the 8 chassis is superior to the fd so if you're looking for big power, the LS swap is always a great option not to bother with the big power rotary headaches of the REW.
203 whp stock? Probably not. The RX8 made less horsepower than Mazda advertised and this forced Mazda to either offer some mods to achieve the factory claimed power number or give the customer a rebate on the car.

This is the reason I prefer the RX-8 over the FD. I have had two and I am always on the lookout for a third.

The videos could not have been sync'd up as the S2000 was clearly exiting the corners ahead of the RX8.

I’m just glad there is a race that the RX-8 can win. So used to seeing it come in last due to a lack of power.

Yeah, I put 18x11 +45 and 295 Dot r comps from my FD on my 109hp auto rx8 and it was fast on short tracks/autox.
the s2000 suspension is rock hard, it's unstable due to that, Rx8 is coping with bumps well while staying flat and level on the track
