The lane had a fantastic atmosphere even as a Three sided ground ( stadium ). Sheffield's number One - THE BLADES ⚔️

Wednesday played football there before dum blunts did as well. When dum blunts moved there permanently the ground then became known as Bumhole Stain.

I`ve a lot of time for him. A lot of us at Palace call him Colin ( I`ll leave you to work it out), but for the most part it is with affection rather than malice. We respect him. 👍

The Kop stand is more ancient than the Bramall Lane stand. It is still the pile of earth and cinders it always was (since safety standard improvements after the 1st Ibrox disaster occasioned the building of 'Kops') - though with a backward extension and a new roof. I suppose the old terraces are still in existence under the lower tier of the Bramall Lane stand, and the lower part of the back wall there is a century old at least.

Interesting, thanks very much for sharing that additional insight! :)

btw back in 1996, I worked with the then owner to look at various options to enlarge the stadium, and yes, building an extra tier behind the South Stand was one of them ..... I suspect it was way before they even contemplated doing this at Anfield. I'm an architect. The hotel in the corner was one of the ideas at the time, but with rooms and lounges from which you could watch the game (as in some American arenas) .... this was scuppered by post Taylor report safety standards which would have ridiculously meant stadium standard crush barriers inside rooms and at the time no alcohol etc.etc. The new architects didn't bother moving the hotel comfortably 30 or so metres away from the stadium itself to allow for further expansion and so, all these new plans are inhibited by notches out of the seating etc. because of it's presence. There is NO communication between Hotel and Stadium, certainly not visually, it is just stuck there, in the way .... and I think empty at the moment??@@acivilconversation18
