Thank you so much, this tutorial was so easy to understand and now I can follow through more advanced tutorials, since other people don't bother to explain what they do. You explain everything in an easy to understand way and with such energy, thank you, really!
Would you know how to make it so that the engraving looks as if it was engraved using an angled bit? So the edges are angled if that makes sense. Thanks.
To do that you can create the indentation of the text with actual angled geometry and use a boolean to create the angled engraving. If you need more help with it post on blendermania3d.com and I can help out more
Jeez Rick! I've been dying to find out how to do that. I mean, I am a total n00b, but still. this helps me so much. Let's see if I get it implemented :D thanks you so much!
@Blendermania: Instead of manually subdivide your Mesh (00:03:00 Minutes) you could use the Subdivision Surface Modifier to subdive two more times. Just adjust the "Subdivision" - Settings on the Modifier: "Viewport" (for the times the mesh gets subdivided in Edit-Mode) - from 1 to 3 times - or adjust the "Render" Layers, so the changes will only apply in the Render Viewport. :)
Absolutely. I would bake the map as a roughness or black and white map. Then put the map into a mix shader into the factor and use it as a mask. Then you can control the color of the text and the color of the surrounding area. If you want more help on that you can PM me on blendermania3d.com on the public chat or post on the forum there and will help you out
i mean where can i find a tutorial which help me with engraving manually , inflated n stuff where did i see it last time hmmm , gime the link if u any of u found it
This is amazing thank you !. I do have a question though. If I wanted my text to wrap around the entirety of the sphere how would I go about doing that. Thanks in advance c:
Great video, was curious why my image was duplicated across the plane? Also my object is similar to a popsicle stick, where it starts out flat but then slopes to a curve at the end. Any tips or tutorials on perhaps complex curved surfaces? Thanks in advance!
Hey great tutorial! Is there any way I can make the text a different material to the object it is being engraved on? And is there any way that I am able to simply change the text in engine without having to go through the Photoshop process everytime?
use a mix shader node you'll have to create a mask so that your new principled shader only appears on the engraved portion, but you could use the image you created to create your normal map (not the normal map image but the one you used for displacement) as a mask. Plug the mask image into the factor portion of the mix shader node.
I'd like to go ahead and say this is a very useful and informative video and I'm going to go ahead and apply this knowledge to my own project but I'd just like to go ahead and say that maybe you don't need all those "go ahead and" instances. Maybe it's just me but I find them distracting. But please go ahead and keep making these excellent videos. (Experiment: read my comment and skip all the instances of "go ahead and" except the one in quotes and see if it makes the slightest difference to the meaning)
or, you could just add a text in blender, convert it into mesh , Add solidify modifier and Boolean instead of traumatizing your pc by adding a 100 subdivisions
Thank you Alex, this was huge. Took me half a day to try out all booleans to screw up my model but then i found this tut and now i am free. :D
Awesome! Awesome! Yes freedom is the goal! Glad the tutorial help you out
This works for embossing as well, you just have to invert the black and white on the original image.
yup

Glad it helped you out AnomalousLad! Feel free to head to blendermania3d.com if you need more help
very nice man, I thought you were nuts halfway though with all those subdivisions but it all made sense in the end. Great stuff!
Haha thanks!

Graet tutorial!
Excellent video. Thank you
Loved it, thnx , we need moor BOOMS in our lives :p
Ha! And You shall have them!
Is it possible to actually edit the color of the text on this and just get the text alone?

You can engrave with a bump map. If you want me to show you just go to blendermania3d.com and post in the forums and can help you there
Hey thank you for your amazing content. It helps me to improve my workflow and content that I create by a lot thanks!!
Thanks a lot, very very informative and helpful ❤💕
This video is so cool I think I caught a cold.
Haha brilliant!
Great video! Thanks a lot! question: how can i change Text color ?
Great, thanks ! What would be the good image size for engraving ?
This is amazing thank you !. I do have a question though. If I wanted my text to wrap around the entirety of the sphere how would I go about doing that. Thanks in advance c:
This was so helpful! A question though: Is there a way to change the color/material of the engraved parts?
Maybe you could try this

your a saint B)
Haha thanks man! Happy you enjoyed it 👊
Black magic right there!
can we change the colour of the engraved part?
heyyy great tutorial but im trying to figure out how to do it on the bullet is it the same process?
Ok I know this was a year ago.. but how would I use this handy method to then make the engraved portion glow? Like a sci-fi bullet for example.
Great video - but how do you know which order to put things into when using the modifiers? ive never understood, how people know. thanks so much!
Hi Why is half of my texture grey and noisy when baked. Im baking combined and colored texture. Should I bake differently if I bake a clored texture?
How would you give text a different color?
How do I set the image mapping as UV MAP so that it obeys the unwrapping Ive made for my object?
Been trying to make chiseled text in blender.. do you happen to have any tips or methods?
this is gonna be really useful :D thanks!
you could probably skip the whole thing with baking the normal map by using a bump node in the shader instead
Great video, was curious why my image was duplicated across the plane? Also my object is similar to a popsicle stick, where it starts out flat but then slopes to a curve at the end. Any tips or tutorials on perhaps complex curved surfaces? Thanks in advance!
Please suggest me from where I can learn logo reveal animation in blender
You can use this tutorial I did probably th-cam.com/video/C98fgicjtME/w-d-xo.html

Why not use the Bump Map Node directly and skip the tedious process to produce the Normal Map?
Normal maps just produce a nicer, cleaner bump effect

For some reason it has embossed the normal instead of engraved/debossed!
im not a blender maniac don't call me that
lol

I hate slow tutorials
haha sorry if it wasn't up to your speed. Play it back at 2x speed :P
