      Honestly, I feel almost all the ship designs of the era have aged really well. I loved how the Romulans we’re a great threat in early TNG. A little more complex than most other villain species, kind of proto-Cardassians (which kind of became my favorite villain species for its layered complexity and of course because Marc Alaimo just knocked it out of the Park hardcore playing by far the best villain in Star Trek‘s 55+ year history).

    • @bpe-music
      @bpe-music 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      You have to thank Rick Berman for that.
      He wanted a more generic, less musical approach that would not distract from the story/dialogue etc..
      Hence why lots of the scores afterwards (except for the films) were so subdued quite often.
      Sometimes the composers were able to break out of these constrictions (especially DS9 and Voyager), but yeah, the compositional quality of the music suffered greatly after that change...

    I really miss the days when the writing and storyboarding and suspense and tension all built up to the crescendo of one, singular Romulan warbird decloaking - striking complete and utter fear and terror into everyone watching. Genuine "Oh sh!t" moments. Now they copypasta 100 warbirds warping in at the same time for shock and awe and it just feels like comedic overkill.

      @Don-ol8ze ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree. Same goes for the Borg. In TNG a single cube was an alien terror and an unbelievable threat. By the time we got through Voyager, that danger became way too watered down from overuse and attempts to one-up what came before.

The Tal Shiar could literally on a whim order the military to undertake whatever task they wanted, this is also why the Order was decimated by the attack in the Oomarion nebula, all the ships were manned by their agents fully, the Tal Shiar could just use a minimal number of agents, and the military would suffer the losses, thus they didn't fall apart after the fiasco, it was a loss for sure, but in the grand scheme insignificant.

      @@darthplagueis66 You should definitely check out "Babylon 5" as my family and I both agreed that it's a very great and widely popular TV series from start to finish. Babylon 5 is an American space opera television series created by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski, under the Babylonian Productions label, in association with Straczynski's Synthetic Worlds Ltd. and Warner Bros. Domestic Television. After the successful airing of a test pilot movie on February 22, 1993, Babylon 5: The Gathering, Warner Bros. commissioned the series for production in May 1993 as part of its Prime Time Entertainment Network (PTEN). The show premiered in the US on January 26, 1994, and ran for five 22-episode seasons.
      The series follows the human military staff and alien diplomats stationed on a space station, Babylon 5, built in the aftermath of several major inter-species wars as a neutral ground for galactic diplomacy and trade. Major plotlines included Babylon 5's embroilment in a millennial cyclic conflict between ancient races (such as the series Main Antagonists, the Shadows), inter-race wars and their aftermaths, and intra-race intrigue and upheaval. The human characters, in particular, become pivotal to the resistance against Earth's descent into totalitarianism.
      Many episodes focused on the effect of wider events on individual characters, with episodes containing themes such as personal change, loss, oppression, corruption and redemption.
      Unusually for the time, Babylon 5 was conceived as a "novel for television" with a pre-planned five-year story arc, each episode envisioned as a "chapter". Whereas contemporary television shows tended to maintain the overall status quo, confining conflicts to individual episodes, Babylon 5 featured story arcs which spanned multiple episodes and even seasons, effecting permanent changes to the series universe. Tie-in novels, comic books, and short stories were also developed to play a significant canonical part in the overall story.

    Honestly, I think the Romulan theme from TOS was better. More iconic and memorable.

      He really should have ordered either both or aft torpedo bays loaded, as they zoom past the cube the forwards are only good for an opening salvo.
