Same. He was my favorite person in the world from age 5 until probably 13. When he died, it destroyed me as a kid. Chris Farleys death destroyed me as a teenager, & Patrice O'Neals death destroyed me as an adult. I got something for giant funny people (: watch out Tim Dillon
One of only handful of actors who producers encouraged him to improvise scenes when appearing in a movie. Candy was that good. He was one of the best natural comedic actors of our time. The audience could really identify with his roles on the big screen. Amazing wit and a gigantic heart.
I'm actually old enough to remember watching this when aired in 1982. The part that is not explained is that John Candy followed Nastassja Kinski that night. She came out with her hair sticking almost straight up and acted very strangely during the interview. So when John came out with his hair done similarly, the audience thought it was hilarious. Here's the clip: th-cam.com/video/OlPCeufl6_I/w-d-xo.html
oh gosh I remember watching this episode! It was so funny because the previous guest was Nastassja Kinski who had her hair spraying and sticking straight up. It was a pretty awkward interview and she playing with her hair for a good deal of it. John Candy coming out like that really changed the whole mood in the room as you can hear 🙂
As a kid growing up in Michigan, during the 70s, before cable was in every house, I had my black and white television with the antenna in my room. My friends and I noticed after the evening news, around 11:30p we had access to a lot more channels and one of them was the Canadian station that carried SCTV before it was ever even heard of in the US. So we would watch it and go into junior high the next day doing characters, skits and telling jokes from the show and most kids were watching SNL. We were thought of as geniuses. When John Candy passed it affected me far more deeply than I thought it would and much much more than any other celebrity death ever had or has since. It was like losing a favorite uncle. Wow that Peter Pan had serious Dee Snyder vibes
My dad was looked a bit like John Candy/John Belushi and had a similar sense of humor. He was a wonderfully funny guy for my sister and I growing up. The ultimate version of John Candy that my dad was when 'The Great Outdoors' came out. That was my dad almost to a "T", haha.
Oh now I remember. John Candy came out with his hair like that because the guest before him, Natassja Kinski, came out with her hair teased in the upward position. Yeah, I saw this when it aired.
John Franklin Candy (Newmarket, Ontario; 31 de octubre de 1950-Victoria de Durango, Durango; 4 de marzo de 1994) fue un actor cómico canadiense, que realizó la mayor parte de su carrera en los Estados Unidos.
I remember watching this at the time. The prior guest, some woman who I can't remember... I wanna say Isabella Rosselini, but whoever it was, her hair was sticking straight up, so John came out like that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I almost wish he wrote an autobiography. But I just dont think he would have done that. Just because he didnt want people in on that world. But I bet some time in the future. They end up making a biopic on him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. (Psalms 14:1-4)
Love him, like seriously

God bless John Candy for making me laugh as much as he did, in my life!
Some of the light went out of the world when John Candy died.
He has inspired so many brilliant artists, the light has returned. Lovelovelove
I cried. 😢
One of the most authentic & genuinely funny people, to ever grace us with his presence! Thanks Mr. Candy... May you rest in #paradise 🕊🙏💚

Indeed. Ironically, so true.
Enlarged even!
Second city would habe been a totally different program without him
His sincerity is beautiful
The comic timing he has is next level.

He couldn't help but be funny. It came so naturally. He possessed such a unique comedic gift.

Such a great guy, incredibly sweet & funny RIP John❤️❤️❤️
Just making a serious face with crazy hair and people are laughing. I love comedians like that. Such an awareness of themselves.
I will always be such a huge fan of this marvelous amazing funny guy. You are so missed John Candy.
3 days after I was born. Legend.

My sister and I thought similarly about our dad, really rare and really awesome ❤ glad you had that ❤️
I just remembered that grizzly bear scene😂
it's odd today to think that Letterman was on the air at the same time as SCTV
John Candy was a sweetheart.
Super talented....a Natural really.
John was a good man. The good ones leave us to soon.
I miss John Candy and SCTV. It was on after SNL ( original cast) in Chicago.
Oh now I remember. John Candy came out with his hair like that because the guest before him, Natassja Kinski, came out with her hair teased in the upward position. Yeah, I saw this when it aired.
Thanks. At some point I'll see if I can find a video to cut that in to the beginning of this to provide context
Rest in peace, dude.
I'm there 😂
Un mito un grande attore
È uno dei miei attori preferiti
RIP Candyman
The irony is that it actually looks better than Dave's hair 40 years later
I just realized that the band who gave kevins mom a ride in home alone was a hat tip to the polka skit on sctv
His guard character in National Lampoon's Vacation was Paul Fistinyourface, his character from SCTV.
I just realized "You Can't Do *_THAT_* on Television" was basically SCTV for kids
Candy was the Goat
Such a good improviser … John could 'Yes And …' anything
Been to Second City in Chicago . Tried to get an Audition but they wouldn't give me a chance
Remember when smoking was okay everywhere?
When David said “ you’re regarded as a funny actor “ John should have responded with Am I ?

There is a pretty solid biography available on Amazon, and I think there is a documentary in the works.

Fuck I hate Jesus freaks
What's up with his hair tho 😂
Explained in sev posts
The original Ryan Reynolds.
Sctv on yt 😂
John was a heavy smoker. Partially to blame for poor health.
That and his weight. Sad, but at least he left us with so much laughter.
You are a genius to put that together!
@@user-pp1on4fk7d absolute
Big hair.
I hope John Candy believed in Jesus
You mean believed he existed?
WHY??????????
Indeed, I hope so too ✝️🙏
Funny thing is that John's hair looks better than Dave's
