My friend said The Strokes make young kids feel old and old kids feel young. Truth.
This is deep wisdom
i like the way she/he said old kids instead of adults thats really one word for sure.
So accurate
First time listening to them is when i was 27yo. now turning 44 and still love it
I like it!
After all these years it’s impossible to understate just how good those first two strokes albums were
I prefer the new abnormal, but room on fire is insane
I've been into these songs for 20 years now. That's the power of good music!
the new abnormal is amazing too but is this it and room on fire really have something special
Everyone knows what you mean but it’s more like impossible to *overstate* since then you’re saying no praise is too high, that there aren’t words to describe how great a thing really is (I was in 9th grade and bought is this it the day it finally came out here so I agree)
@@alexios5081 That something special is it aged like wine. Give a decade or so to the new abnormal and you will feel it at that same level. That's my top 3 I don't have an order tho.
These guys are my beatles.

Julian doesn't like the Beatles😂
The saviours of rock 😍👌

Sometimes a debut album sounds so perfect you think how do they improve on that.
It’s criminal how short this song is

It more than deserves a 12:51 x-version!
That's why it's catchy, it leaves you wanting more. Songs used to be short. Lots of elvis hits are around the 3min mark.

There's something special about this song... it's hard to explain
no, that's their other song. this is "12:51" ;)
Eh it's kind of both haha. They are both good songs but they do sound kind of similiar.
i say the right thing but act the wrong way
instrumental chorus and its hook is just massive
This is sonic Sonic Youth with keyboards. A big influence obviously. @@Andyface79

I remember in high school, introducing my crush to the strokes. I bought her their first two albums, and I was so excited to give them to her. Then she said, "Before I take these, I wanted to tell you I have a boyfriend. That's okay, right?" Fuck, you should've seen my face. That started one of the most bizarre and endearing friendships I've ever had. Miss you, Gissel!
That's both sad and extremely wholesome. Crushes most of the time end up being some of the best friends
@@mateotierno3780 ended up being the truest love I ever had. We almost got together a few times, but I never wanted to. I regret that.

Got room on fire the day it came out, listened to it a load, but i dont remember ever seein this video😮
The vocal blends seamlessly with the music... so the whole song experience is just sublime.
Childhood memory unlocked. My older brother used to blast out those bands songs on his cassettes and posters everywhere.
My life imploded in 2003, but I remember taking comfort in this amazing song when it played on the radio. Never got heavy into The Strokes (I only ever purchased this one album of theirs) but everything I've heard from them from the rest of their discography has all been consistently amazing. I should really dig deeper and get more of their stuff.
thank god for the architects who made the hospitals were this guys were born so when they grew up could make this beautiful songs

The craziest thing happened today: I was 15yo when this song was published and I remember liked it. MTV hardly transmitted it (at least in Italy) and none of my friends knew this song. For years I had this song in my mind but I didn’t remember the title or the band and for years this song remained a mistery that I was not able to figure out. Until today: I was in the car and some random playlist had this song in it and finally got to know which was the title and the band!
I think this sort of thing happens quite often. Sometimes people suddenly get some lyrics or a melody in their head from a song they only heard a few times in their youth, but they can find it by searching on Google (or with AI) for lyrics or even a description (if they know the right words to use). It's amazing when you get reunited with a song from your youth. I'd completely forgotten the title of this one on an old CD mix I made, but I used Shazam to remind me.

Ahh the first Strokes song I ever heard and still my favorite.
I'm leaving this comment here so everytime someone likes it I can listen to this song again
The Strokes are either being cleverly un-ironic or they are ironically clever at appearing to be un-ironic. Either way, brilliant
I didnt even remember this song, i wanna cry
This whole 2nd album is due a Pinkerton-style reappraisal, I feel like it didnt get enough respect when it first dropped. Its all killer, no filler, front to back. Such a feel good, summertime classic.
Pitchfork did a re-appraisal in 2021 and said "Room on Fire" would be upgraded from an 8 out of 10 to a 9.2 if they allowed themselves to give a new score. That would make it 0.1 better than "Is This It", which would reveal that modern reviewers have lost their minds. (That said, it's an album that sounds better today than it did in the context of the time it was released, when many fans were disappointed).
I need more friends that are into The Strokes...
[Edit]: oh wow!! Thats a lot of friends!! You guys are awesome!!

My favorite Strokes song ever.
Fun fact: Nick says he blew out multiple amps to get his keyboard-like lead sound in this song. If any guitarists watching wanna get it, though, try using a chorus pedal into an overdriven amp with your guitar's tone knob turned all the way down; your amps will thank you.
Can’t imagine life without the strokes
I make it a habit to listen to this song every night at the appropriate time.
Whenever I look at the clock and it reads "12:51" I start singing the guitar/synthesizer melody to myself and patting my thigh to the 2, 1, 1, 2 claps-beat of the drums
A timeless classic for sure.

Listened to this song on MTV when I was just 11 years old and immediately fell head over heels in love with The Strokes. Been listening to their music religiously for over 20 years. Been revisiting the strokes entire catalogue last few months... the first 2 albums are basically flawless. Their newest album is also incredible... they're relatively young for a band that's been around 21+ years... wish they didn't have such big spans of inactivity would have loved for them to have made another 2 or 3 albums
All these journalists saying this band is superficial or basic and instead throwing flowers to mediocre bands wich only they like and now are completely forgotten... I hope they rot in hell, cause the strokes remains today as great band and it is already an icon of rock music.❤❤
Never want this song to end
You can hear the influence this song had on '505' with that opening riff i think
This is that album that you inadvertently come across when something is changing in your life . Someway, somehow, you find it . @Daniel Kelley You nailed it.

I went to one of their concerts and they were so incredible!!! They arent your typical rock band that is jumping and spitting on the stage, they are playing their music and you can just feel the vibe and energy radiating from the music. That said, Julian Casablanca's voice is totally unique, I know the words to the songs but you can never sing it like he does, it is totally unique and works for all of their songs. I want to see another concert if their every in my neck of the woods.
I saw them at Ally Pally in London in 2005 I think and they were absolutely brilliant. As were the crowd - a football crowd with 5 guys who don't understand football
At firt time,i only can listening on radio & today i can see them...
Never noticed it before but at 2:09 Julian stumbles towards Albert and he looks at him like 'Don't fucking shoulder check me like you did on the music video for Last Night'
+Owen Smith yes!
Yeah like you did with Fab with his mic stands. So, I’ll do it with the poor mic stand that I’ll do that to Fab with. (At the end)
