    Really have to love how a big fire engulfs two buildings and our protagonists decide to save themselves by hiding in a tree like it’s fire retardant. Honestly, they’d have a better chance standing on the brick wall…

    • @msjkramey
      @msjkramey ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually the brick would get too hot to stand. At least the tree has water in it. I forget the reason, but I saw something about how brick building actually spread fire faster

    • @C.V317
      @C.V317 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@msjkramey that’s not entirely true. While yes, a brick wall would eventually get too hot to stand on, wood doesn’t need to wait that long; the tree would collapse long before the wall got hot, due to the air pockets inside natural wood and tree foliage that can act as flammable debris. A brick wall (especially one that I’d assume passed inspection) wouldn’t have what fire needs to spread either up or out quickly.
      This has been Fire Talk.

    • @LordJazzly
      @LordJazzly ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@C.V317 Thank you for Fire Talk! It was actually good to know; where I live, the main types of hardwood trees are Eucalyptus, Acacia, and Corymbia, so you obviously don't go anywhere near them in a fire on account of all the flammable oils and resins. But it's nice to know for sure that normal, doesn't-actively-want-to-be-on-fire trees are also not a safe bet in fire situations.

    • @freshrot420
      @freshrot420 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@C.V317 What are y'all smoking?! Aside from trees with flammable sap, have you ever tried burning fresh wood? It's hard as heck to light! But like, none of that matters. It's the smoke inhalation that would kill them quickest and since smoke rises, even the lemon tree that won't burn well is a terrible idea. What they really wanted tho, was the throwback to being nice to the tree and it being nice to them.

    • @C.V317
      @C.V317 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@freshrot420 while you raise a fair point about the smoke inhalation killing them before the fire does, I will argue that an isolated tree literally surrounded by buildings and debris on fire would not take so long to catch fire. How long it took would depend on the type of tree, but it isn’t longer than a brick wall; the tree will collapse before the wall would. Most likely, the leaves would catch fire first (which is also a reason a tree is not a place to go to when there’s a fire), and the branches would collapse before the trunk, it would still be a giant bit of wood surrounded in flames.
      I can’t believe I have to explain, in the comments section of a video about a cheap film, that wood is combustible.

    One of my favourite things to look out for in cheap movies is food, because for some reason I find it hilarious watching a family dinner scene where the set dresser has put down some plates of plain spaghetti, a big bowl of raw spinach masquerading as a salad in the middle of the table, and red wine that is obviously juice (Except for the kid, who always has a glass of milk. Because that's what kids drink at dinner.) It's right up there with costumes for Rich Lady characters, where the budget can't stretch beyond a thrift store satin suit from the 80's and strings of fake pearls.
    That pizza at the end, though....Holy damn, someone really just dumped some canned vegetables on that thing and said, "Good enough!"

      Ooh, I'm gonna start looking at rich ladies in low budget movies! My thing I like to look at the costumes on kid characters in low budget flicks! They'll always be dressed slightly to the left of what appropriate for the situation, overdressed for a birthday party, underdressed for a wedding, wearing bright colors at a funeral, that kind of thing. I think the kid costumes often come out of people's attics.

    I feel like George’s Island (from 1989) would fit the vibe of your channel perfectly. A kids’ movie about ghosts and pirate treasure with an antagonistic teacher named, I kid you not, Miss Cloaca Birdwood.

    LOL- the pizza throughout the movie was probably bought locally. Looks like it was filmed in the NY Metro area- good on them for getting on location shots! (Yeah- I know there's film studios in NYC lol)

    I don't normally like to watch videos more than once, but I can watch yours over and over. They're so fun and charming! Some of these movies and shows I would never want to watch (with the obvious exceptions of Murder She Wrote and the Golden Girls). But I have bought a few video games because of you. Thanks for watching these movies so we don't have to!

    Just as “Romeo and Juliet but with pizza” is a genre unto itself, “films about food where the food looks absolutely terrible” seems like it’s probably one as well. (See also “films about music in which no-one in the entire production team has ever held an instrument before”.)

    That pizza at the end hurts my heart and soul, as well as the hearts and souls of all my family.
    What was that? Spinach and artichoke dip? Did they try making a Margarita pizza, ran out of sliced tomatoes, took the single most inept person in the whole shop, threw a blindfold on 'em, sat them in front of the veg topping station and said, "Create!"
