One thing I think you'll always find in the episodes of Murder She Wrote where Jessica seems to make LEAPS of logic is that there are always deleted scenes. I'll bet that there is a minute long scene on some cutting room floor where Jessica speaks to this woman, and then notices her unusual shoe print being left in the sand. Like, I'll bet the scene even has the hitwoman going on about how she was totally a teacher who loved teachering the students in her teachering place, and Jessica being like, oh that's odd, I did teach English, so that seems strange you say that this way. haha
Like'd for "teachering place". Although, if she were masquerading as an English teacher specifically, then Jessica could have caught her on a point of grammar, for example failing to use subjunctive properly or saying "less" when "fewer" would be more appropriate.
"Hmm, should we keep the scene that explains why the sleuth made their deduction, of the pointless non-romance by two side characters that contributes nothing of value to the story? Touch call!"
@@kingbeauregard XD you should hear my mother an English and German teachers speak spanglish and Gerenglish half the time. Teaching isn't your day to day style of being.
As a french person I immediately clocked that shoe print as an espadrille. So many french people wear that in the summer, it's a marvel Jessica saw it was hers and not literally any other french person's!
I am from eastern Spain and we wear espadrilles in summer too. In my home district we used to make these espadrilles by hand in the past! Our district symbol has the number 9 flanked by a pair of espadrilles...
As a man with no fashion sense whatsoever, I was quite certain the print was made by footwear of some type. Possibly footwear worn on the feet of a human person.
That Tim Allen grunt made me choke on my food (positive). And the "aaaaaand this guy's dead" followed by sad fanfare always makes me giggle. Thank u Roses
Just when you need her most, Roses will appear with a new episode of "That time on Murder, She wrote" like sunshine after a rainy day. Thank you, PushingUpRoses.
Beats me. In Season 1 alone, we get a dog being accused of murder, Jessica becoming a congresswoman, and the one I just found, episode 8, which has a young Joaquin Phoenix and Jessica designing a Haunted House.
I've watched Murder She Wrote when I was a kid(All of them) and I have to tell you, this was the most wild episode of Season 11 I've seen....this plot was all over creation and I feel bad for "Aunt Jessica"(since I grew up watching her, I consider her my honorary Aunt) as all she wanted was a vacation away from The Murder Capital of the World Cabbit Cove.... It's nice to have you doing this Roses, we've truly missed you on the porch..
If you’re looking for a darker episode to cover, I’ve always been a big fan of Sticks and Stones. It takes place in Cabot Cove and involves a slew of the townspeople, and an outbreak of homespun scandal and controversy well before the days of social media. Love your videos, and I’m especially excited when a new That Time on Murder, She Wrote is posted.
@@cj-seejay-cj-seejay I’ve requested the other Harry Pierce episodes for more context, but I’ve gotten to the point where I just really want to see Roses cover the epic conclusion.
@@unclesquirrelstache7431 I have request the same thing, too, actually! Roses could do a longer focus on Harry Pierce with all three episodes he's in... maybe that would be a longer task, but I think it's worth the payoff! :)
I’d reeeaaally love a longer episode on the two parter, “Mirror, mirror” from S5, E21&22. It’s such a weird episode! It’s rare that we get Jess in danger from the get go, and Seth is an initial antagonist, really speaking his kind re: JB’s late stage second career. And the murderer in the end is, like, such a nothing character. I rewatch it very often, confused but enamored for some reason.
"And the murderer in the end is, like, such a nothing character." that is a perfect way to describe it. I was not expecting the murderer to be that character and not even the good unexpected.
That particular episode was actually supposed to be the end of the series. Angela Lansbury was exhausted and she told them she didn't want to do it anymore. So there was a real possibility that was the end of the road for the show. But they change things around so that she didn't have to appear as much in every episode and she agreed to stick around. Thank God!
I think at one point they thought that might be the series finale, and if it had been, everyone would have thought Jessica married Seth. It has a bit of a Hallmark movie "independent woman realizes she does love her best friend after almost losing him" feel. But I think Seth grousing about Jessica writing (or doing anything that took him away from her) is probably why Jessica doesn't want to be more than friends with him. Though sometimes their interactions do feel a bit couple-ish.
I making my way through the series and I swear Angela Lansbury looks so much younger in the later seasons than she did in the earlier ones. Oh to age as gracefully as she did.
That’s Maurice Roeves playing the ‘Sea Captain’. He was all over UK TV in the 1970s & 80s when I was growing up. Mostly playing, tough, hard bitten Scotsmen. Loads of featured guest roles on hit shows plus the occasional regular character. Dr Who, The Sweeney, Danger UXB, Bergerac, etc. Lots of theatre too apparently, with plenty of Shakespeare. Looks like he made the move to the US in the mid-1980s. Probably best remembered for the movie ‘Last of the Mohicans’.
With half of TH-cam reviewing every episode of “The Last of Us”, it’s refreshing to see someone review a show my grandma enjoyed watching 30 years ago. Keep them coming.
I would love to see an episode on "Powder Keg". That's probably the only Murder She Wrote episode that felt somewhat scary and had a genuine menacing vibe.
I'd love to see you tackle the 2-parter "Mirror Mirror On the Wall" (season 5 finale), featuring veteran actress Jean Simmons as a rival mystery novelist who tries to upstage Jess. Also features one of the single best moments in the show's history, when Sheriff Metzger asks Jess, "What is this place, the murder capital of Maine?" Also, "Incident at Lot 7"(season 8). Jess is in Hollywood where a studio is adapting one of her books, and a murder takes place on the Bates Motel set from "Psycho".
I want to give Auntie Jess the benefit of the doubt on the shoeprint clue. That concentric ring tread pattern is very common on the type of platform espadrilles that the Schoolhouse Assassin was wearing draped over her neck. Even if she only noticed those shoes in passing, she wouldn't necessarily have had to get a close look at them to make the connection.
Jessica doing a cartoon shocked face when her friend gets beaten up is the funniest thing I've seen all day - pulling her sunglasses down and everything. All that's missing was her eyes to physically pop out of her head HEHE
It always amazes me how many talented actors ended up on this show. Anne Lockhart who played the groundbreaking Lieutenant Sheba in Battlestar Galactica, among her roles in many many other TV series, is probably my favorite this time.

Because of your reviews, I have learned a few things to look out for on this show (in addition to watching the series long enough). That bit about the woman's shoes, I remember looking at that scene of her earlier in the video and thinking, "Those shoes are prominently in the shot. It's so weird that she's wearing those filthy things on a clean outfit." When she was identified as the maker of the footprint, I immediately thought back to that. As someone who *NEVER* can figure out mysteries and indulges in them simply for the novelty and surprise, I was quite proud of myself! :D
I remember my grandmother watching Murder She Wrote and not really understanding it. It didn't leave an impression on me that I continued to watch it into adulthood like the Golden Girls. Until you started doing your retrospectives. Now I got it queued up on my tv and I'm watching an episode every 2 day days and GOD DAMN can someone please bring up how often Jessica puts herself in mortal danger. Like as a woman I'm concerned she doesn't have any self preservation skills.
Another aspect of Murder She Wrote is seeing how many guest stars you know or recognize. I knew Wayne Rogers from MASH and Anne Lockhart from Battlestar Galactica (the original version from 1978), but there were a couple of others I recognized, but don't really know by name.
By a few years into the series, they should have had sociopaths specifically coming to Cabbot Cove to kill because it had famously become the murder capital of the world, and that was where they could test themselves against Jessica.
My familys love of Murder, She Wrote spans three generations. My grandmother loved it, my mom owns the entire boxset, and thanks to that Ive seen them all. Though Im do for a rewatch. We'll all miss Angela Lansbury, but at least she was so prolific itll be *almost* like she never left.
Another great "That Time on Murder She Wrote"! I'd love to see you cover "Ever After" (S8 E16), a completely off-the-rails episode in which Kate Mulgrew plays a daytime soap actress who befriends Jessica.
I could listen to you talk about Murder, She Wrote all day, every day! Having rewatched some of the older seasons, there are two really good episodes I'd like to recommend: 'Reflections of the Mind' (season 2, episode 6) and 'One White Rose for Death' (season 3, episode 4). Both have really interesting plots, and I think you might really enjoy them!
These are some of my favorite videos on TH-cam. I watch Murder She Wrote with my grandma as a special ritual, and we love joking about it and trying to beat each other in figuring out who the murderer is first, so these videos always remind me of that. I also admire the time and effort you put into these videos, and if you have any advice for creators in other media how to get the word out on TH-cam, I'd love to hear - I work on an audiodrama podcast and I hope to make people as happy as you do with your videos!
This was just absolutely brilliant. I don't know what else to say except I can't believe how much I love these videos. It makes no sense, yet I'm *compelled.* Thanks for what you do, always. 💯
Having a crappy day at work so seeing a MSW review from PUR was definitely a mood booster! Wonderful as always! I have so many episode requests - JB as in Jailbird, Trouble in Eden, and one I just saw the other day called Deadly Misunderstanding. That one had me going WTF through most of it.
6:40 - That design is actually based on the original logo for the Paris Métropolitan ; as in the subway / main underground passenger train network, in Paris. There are still six of the original signs of this same design, at Metro stations in Paris, and I believe one in Montreal.
week nights i watch Murder she wrote with my 76 yr old father, i'm 42, i now live with him to well both look after and help him in the house and me to live and recover from a sleep apnea event back in sept , thank God for Canadian health care ,, such as it is... love the show, love your reviews of the show.
I used to watch MSW with my grandma. I thought she looked like Angela Lansbury. Your synopses always bring back happy memories of 8-12ish year old me sitting on the sofa with her.
Used to watch Murder She Wrote with my mum all the time as a kid. Such a great series. Also Magnum P.I. which had a crossover with Murder She Wrote. Other great ones are The Rockford Files and Quincy M.E. folk say Quicy is boring but I really enjoyed the slow pacing as from a modern perspective the cinematography was good and it allowed you to just absorb what the city looked like back on that era; the street scene, the clothes etc. Its why I enjoy films like North by Northwest.
I always wondered why Jess was friends with so many men with sketchy morals, lol. I would love to see you do "Appointment in Athens" where she poses as Michael Hagerty's wife, or any other episodes with Michael Hagerty. Also, "Death Takes a Curtain Call" where she helps Russian Ballet dancers defect.
I have a theory that she used to volunteer at a big prison, teaching inmates doing hard time. With her effortless ability to talk to anyone and get them on her side through sheer force of personality, I bet she made some surprising connections. Of course, I could be talking out of my ass. Always a possibility when I muse on something
I'm only 2:25 in and loving that the scenic Martinique hotel is really just the Fantasy Island mansion painted in rainbow colors, straight outta exotic Arcadia California. Hooray for Murder She Wrote later seasons!
I am just watching "School for Scandal", from "Murder she wrote ". Very amusing! I so wish the wonderfully wittiful Pushing up roses would make a review of it! That will be a real pleasure!
Great episode :D btw, surprised you have nothing on any of the Knives out, they are modern films but they are both kind of old-school-ish murder mystery
I just started watching from Season 1 and in one of the first couple episodes she more or less tells a guy she knows he tried to kill her but in the end walked free. Then he basically goes 'haha Jess you're so funny', she leaves, and he gives a menacing look to the camera. Do they ever come back to this plot... ?
If you're on Reddit, there will often be a poster coming on and claiming that Jessica is a serial killer, and is responsible for all the murders. But I think most of them are Jessica's fantasies, just like in the one where she's really tired at the dinner party. I'm really surprised that Jessica is allowed to read anyone else's story ideas. Professionals are told by their publishers not to, in case they end up coming up with something similar. Heck, she already has the problem that she was an English teacher, and probably read many of her students' stories.
One of my favourite films is Massacre at Central High from 1976. It's star Derrell Maury is in an episode of Murder She Wrote called Dead Heat and it has some crazy plot about murder and intrigue in the world of horse training. Please cover that episode, it looks hilarious and his character name is Cookie Milford which makes me laugh every time I see it.
I love how the actress playing a character pretending to be a teacher on an island vacation in this episode, played a character who was a teacher on an island vacation in season 2.
I love these videos and I don't watch youtube stuff like this at all. I think I found you through old adventure game reviews and stayed for the old tv reviews. Keep it up please x
RIP Jessica. This so reminds me of my grandmother and makes me miss her so much, we used to watch this show along with matlock, wheel of fortune and jeopardy back in the 80s. It makes me sad , I miss her so much. She passed 20 years ago already 😢
As far as future episodes to cover, might I recommend the Harry Pierce trio? He's a recurring character for three episodes, and his 3rd episode in particular becomes rather bonkers.
I love Murder She Wrote and your channel. Not sure if you ever covered the episode but Bill Maher interviewed Bryan Cranston and they actually met each other in the 80's because they did an episode of Murder She Wrote.
I actually think that synopsis makes it sound interesting. Multiple murderers and murders that the detective gets bombarded by mysteries. "You think its ONE murder, but its actually FIVE....and so messy, you can hardly tell where one begins, and where another ends". Could be a good idea for a movie. Also, I think its called McFish in Sweden too. At least when I was a kid.
I would remark at how easy it is for Jessica to waste people's time by talking to them but... I mean, even if I were a murderer I'd find her charming enough to waste time with.
"This is Jessica's friend, Lauren." Okay, how long before Lauren gets accused of murder? EDIT: A wild Charlie appears! A new old friend of Jessica's to be accused of murder!
Thanks to your videos I caved and bought the entire series. Starting from the very beginning, I was surprised how much of the show was established at the very beginning, or soon after. The pilot is so good at establishing what type of show it will be, that it seems almost like an origin movie made after the first season. There might not bee too much cringey weirdness in it, but I nominate the pilot for being a very solid watch.
I went to a doctor appointment today and there was a tv playing in the waiting room like most offices have. I generally ignore whatever is one and use my phone. But the moment I heard Jessica’s voice and realized what was on, I pocketed my phone and watched the episodes (The Murder of Sherlock Holmes Part 1 and 2). I didn’t grow up with this show at all, but watching your videos about it definitely made me a fan of it. Thanks for continuing to introduce new people to quality old tv ✌🏾
Please, please cover Season 4 Episode 3 "Witness for the Defense"! It is set up more like a courtroom drama than their usual format. It has a great scene where the lawyer hangs a lampshade on Jessica's past cases. And the scene where Jessica takes a bite of popcorn is hilarious!
Chiming in to say how much I always look forward to this series, and to make a quick recommendation: Roses, if you haven't tried out the new Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne series, Poker Face, I think you would absolutely LOVE it. It slaps. Six episodes in, it's just about the most excited I've been about any recent tv series - at the very least since I finally got in on Ted Lasso. I also have this theory that Poker Face is structured *specifically* as an homage to Murder, She Wrote, but with the class dynamics basically on backwards. The main character travels all over - but not at all because she's rich and famous and connected - and everywhere she goes, she makes friends with intriguing and kindhearted strangers who usually live on the fringes of society in some way and occupy the exact kinds of social roles that would usually be given almost no time and attention on a show that's more about hoteliers and venture capitalists and winery owners and actresses and, I dunno, ombudsmen. And wouldn't you know, everywhere Natasha Lyonne goes, her new friends get mixed up in murders, sometimes as the perpetrators or - genuinely heartbreakingly - as the victims. Still, despite her being in a radically different social position and much more rough around the edges, Charlie feels like a proper spiritual successor to Jessica. The show doesn't handle the setup/solution mystery format *quite* the same way as MSW, BUT there's still a huge emphasis on the courage and clear-thinking it takes to confront the murderers in person and come up with some kind of tactic to entrap them into giving themselves away. I think there have also already been a couple of fun mini MSW Easter eggs, as well. Anyway, that's my pitch! We've already finished all the episodes that have dropped so far, and now I have to sit on my hands humming histrionically until later this week! Balls! Shakes fist at sky!
I get SO excited for that time on murder she wrote. Seriously! Please don’t stop!
Same here!

Please never stop these! I bought the whole series and got to Season 4 before she passed. These videos give me serotonin. Keep them coming!
Having rewatched some of the older seasons, there are two really good episodes I'd like to recommend: 'Reflections of the Mind' (season 2, episode 6) and 'One White Rose for Death' (season 3, episode 4). Both have really interesting plots, and I think you might really enjoy them!
I love when Jess does that at the end, where she brings in her own prop and is able to get someone to confess! This is one of my favorite episodes!
4:27 PUR, i thought you were gonna say you had to pause the episode to ponder what “Scoober diving” was, cuz it sure caught my attention 😆
This was just absolutely brilliant. I don't know what else to say except I can't believe how much I love these videos. It makes no sense, yet I'm *compelled.*
Thanks for what you do, always. 💯
Fun fact in Germany Murder she wrote is called:
Murder is her hobby
That makes it sound like Jessica is the murderer.
This episode seems like an absolute rollercoaster; and despite being acrophobic, I absolutely love it.
A murder she wrote deep dive on my birthday!?!?!? Ugh I’m so happy! I absolutely love these
Happy birthday.
6:40 - That design is actually based on the original logo for the Paris Métropolitan ; as in the subway / main underground passenger train network, in Paris. There are still six of the original signs of this same design, at Metro stations in Paris, and I believe one in Montreal.
These always make me so happy- I didn’t even remember this one. Nearly died when you pointed out the incredibly similar hair lol- off to do a rewatch!
week nights i watch Murder she wrote with my 76 yr old father, i'm 42, i now live with him to well both look after and help him in the house and me to live and recover from a sleep apnea event back in sept , thank God for Canadian health care ,, such as it is... love the show, love your reviews of the show.
The cats in the cradle joke was amazing. I am still laughing. The look on the sons face. Priceless
I used to watch MSW with my grandma. I thought she looked like Angela Lansbury. Your synopses always bring back happy memories of 8-12ish year old me sitting on the sofa with her.
Hell yeah a new Roses episode just in time for lunch!!!
The Michael episodes were good, and I loved the Dennis episodes!
The Dennis episodes (especially the earlier ones where he's a little more morally ambiguous (Albeit M,SW morally ambiguous)) are great.
ohh the ballet dancers one! That's great!!
Sketchy men ... and members of the KGB for some reason. There are at least two KGB officers who are at the very least admirers of Jess
It would be great, if you could do "Till Death do us depart". It has a very solid plot and guest stars Kate Mulgrew and Marcia Cross.
I enjoy her commentary, personality and snark. It always makes my day when she posts. Good good times.
I'm only 2:25 in and loving that the scenic Martinique hotel is really just the Fantasy Island mansion painted in rainbow colors, straight outta exotic Arcadia California. Hooray for Murder She Wrote later seasons!
I've been struggling and as always your breakdown of this show gave me joy!
I am just watching "School for Scandal", from "Murder she wrote ". Very amusing! I so wish the wonderfully wittiful Pushing up roses would make a review of it! That will be a real pleasure!
Never seen the show but love when Rose posts. I have watched almost all of her stuff. Can't get enough.
"The McFish has ketchup on it instead of tartar sauce, and that makes me want to die." This is the most relatable thing you've ever said.
Great episode :D btw, surprised you have nothing on any of the Knives out, they are modern films but they are both kind of old-school-ish murder mystery
Murder she wrote is still one of my favorite shows, timeless! Keep up the good work pushing up roses! 🙌👍
as far as i know, they never do
Creepy male secretary? Nope. Mostly because he was REALLY creepy.
I've never watched an episode in my life, but I always look forward to your recaps! Great work!
L' Hotel des Deux Perroquets is totally Mr. Roarke's house on Fantasy Island (Queen Anne Cottage at the LA County Arboretum and Botanic Garden.
This show was so great, glad you’re doing reviews of them.
Can I just say, my boyfriend and I NEEDED this episode tonight. Thanks for cutting through our day of family dramas with this gold.
As dangerous as the MSW universe is, I low-key wanna live in it.
Yeah me too
"JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE'S RAMEN NOODLE HAIR" 😆😆😆😆😆 Absolutely hilarious 👍👍👍
I'm just glad to see creepy is still out there. Creeping around.
8:33 made me think of that missing Australian radioactive capsule meme :D
I love these videos and I don't watch youtube stuff like this at all. I think I found you through old adventure game reviews and stayed for the old tv reviews. Keep it up please x
I rewatch this entire playlist like once every 2 weeks or so. I dont why I keep coming back, but I just cant stop
Thank you for yet another great episode
RIP Jessica. This so reminds me of my grandmother and makes me miss her so much, we used to watch this show along with matlock, wheel of fortune and jeopardy back in the 80s.
It makes me sad , I miss her so much.
She passed 20 years ago already 😢
Love this series ❤️. Thanks 😊.
She has covered an episode with bryan
@@angelaholmes8888 Bryan did 3 episodes, him and Bill did one together. Not sure if she covered that.
@@BishopWalters12 I don't think she done one where both Bryan and bill appeared yet
But is it served with ketchup or tartar sauce?
It's never been called McFish in France, so I don't know where she got that info from.
girl, that 'cats in the cradle' insert; you're very very funny
I would remark at how easy it is for Jessica to waste people's time by talking to them but... I mean, even if I were a murderer I'd find her charming enough to waste time with.
To be fair, if I saw a woman wearing her shoes as a necklace, I’d probably remember it too.
"This is Jessica's friend, Lauren."
Okay, how long before Lauren gets accused of murder?
EDIT: A wild Charlie appears! A new old friend of Jessica's to be accused of murder!
I would love to see you cover season 2 episode 1, it also has a reoccurring character and Jessica and him have a lot of chemistry which is always fun
ALL HAIL THE BISEXUAL SPHERE
Thanks to your videos I caved and bought the entire series. Starting from the very beginning, I was surprised how much of the show was established at the very beginning, or soon after. The pilot is so good at establishing what type of show it will be, that it seems almost like an origin movie made after the first season. There might not bee too much cringey weirdness in it, but I nominate the pilot for being a very solid watch.
Oh yeah...do you matlock? Cause you should.
12:31 with the Windows fanfare REALLY caught me off guard. Well done and thank you. Also, Chicawgo
Thank you for that wonderful surprised Jessica moment, I think I need to start using that as a reaction image. 🤣
The fashion/colors/decor in this gave me such satisfying 90’s asmr
I went to a doctor appointment today and there was a tv playing in the waiting room like most offices have. I generally ignore whatever is one and use my phone. But the moment I heard Jessica’s voice and realized what was on, I pocketed my phone and watched the episodes (The Murder of Sherlock Holmes Part 1 and 2). I didn’t grow up with this show at all, but watching your videos about it definitely made me a fan of it. Thanks for continuing to introduce new people to quality old tv ✌🏾
Please, please do a video on “ Keep the Home Fries Burning” I love your videos so much!!
I just watched it! And remembered your review. It is really wild.
