I agree that flipping the square back and forth, stitching each round on opposite sides solves the “turning vortex” problem.
However, by just carrying those tails on top of stitches, they are only hidden in the spaces where there are 3 double crochets together.
The part of the tail that is just layed on top of existing stitches can still be seen in the open gaps.
I prefer a cleaner look. Even though it is a pain, I do a weave of the tail through the top loops of at least one group of 3 double crochets before hiding the end under another 3 double crochet group.
Just an alternate method for people who are OCD with their stitching, like me!🙃

This is THE granny square tutortial! She makes the “magic circle” SO much less complicated than other videos I’ve seen and explains everything so clearly! I love this woman and plan to seek her channel out first for my future projects. Thank you so much for putting this out there and making granny squares a reality for me!!!🎉

There are a few things in your wise words that changed my granny square game:
    1. Tighter granny squares with less chains on the corners and sides.
    2. Colour changing with a beautiful standing stitch which doesn't stand out like the normal chain 3.
    3. Working over the tails - say goodbye to weaving and bloodshot eyes!
Thank you for this video. You are an innovator and and inspiration to many.

yes I agree. That chain is such an eyesore. The standing stitches alleviate that.

I am 44 years old and just decided to learn how to crochet! My mom sent me your video because I was getting so frustrated with all the other videos I was watching. I love traditional granny squares. I especially love to make big, ugly scrappy ones with mismatched yarns and all kinds of craziness. I just keep them for myself to throw over my couch and I just let the colors change wherever they will and I cheat and use a magic knot. I’ve got a giant Noro stash and I’m thinking of turning it into a wildly colorful granny square blanket. With that one I would pay more attention to changing colors in rounds and weaving in my ends nicely. I discovered the thing about flipping your granny square about a year ago and it is a game changer. I will never make one without flipping it, ever again.

Omigoodness you are an amazing teacher and I think so far out of all the instructional videos I have watched, I love your style the best! I am a perfectionist at heart and always want my work to look crisp and clean. The lady I watched before you was showing how to put two squares together... Not only were the two squares different sizes 😮 but one looked twisted from the center. I was not interested in being taught by someone who isn't focused on good form so I clicked away and found you and I'm so glad I did! 💜💜💜

Researching for granny square ideas for our charity project, I came across your video. Subscribed immediately. This will elevate our blankets for wheelchair users in nursery homes a lot. I will take away not only the standing dc, but also the magic loop beginning, and how to work in the tails and save me some sewing in ends.
This probably will improve productivity, too.

I got my Hobbii CAL package today. I chose the calm theme. Lots of nice goodies in addition to the yarn. The value of this kit is beyond the $85 price.
