Bora, make sure that the microSD card is inserted into the camera. Turn on the quadcopter and bind it to the transmitter. Press the little silver button that is located to the right of the left control stick to operate the camera. Push down on this button once to start the video camera. You must also press down one more time to stop the video when your flight is completed in order to record the video to the memory card. Do not turn off your quadcopter until you stop the video, or it will not be successfully recorded to the card.
I did the same today. Had two really good first time practice flights but the video never saved!!! Suspect it was because never pushed down on the camera to save! 😢
Thank you Quadcopter 101 I was going to waste money on a syma x5c camera and wait like 30 days. I'm an impatient man, and I'm one of those people that need everything yesterday, so 5 day shipping or no deal. I just happen to have an 808 camera that fits the criteria perfectly. Now I have some news to share with you. I used some hubsan x4 batteries at 240MAH, on my Syma X5(original). Surprisingly, it flew for a perfect 4-5 minutes without landing gear, prop guards, or camera onboard. I found that it gave my quadcopter far more power-to-weight ratio as the weight of the battery seemed to be making a difference, or at least the smaller battery seemed to be giving a higher current. The only drawback I noticed from running the hubsan x4 mini batteries on the syma x5 is that they can get sorta hot depending on how much strain you've placed on it. Of course, i could be wrong. I did not try any record testing or any of that, but I noticed that the climbing speed on the x5 felt much faster than it normally did with its stock 500mah battery. On another note, i took a closer inspection at the syma x5's parts... and I noticed something peculiar.... IT HAS THE SAME PARTS AS THE SYMA X1! The motherboard and lights are different, but the motors and gear assembly is the same as the x1. Therefore, if you ever need to find readily available parts for quick repairs, you can get some cheap mass produced x1 parts and swap them out with the x5's. It will perform exactly the same. This is an unfortunate trend however, that I've observed with pretty much every other quad. The majority of quads out there share easily compatible parts, and some even share the same motherboards. If you hear a high pitched whine from a quadcopter, it is the telltale sound of a hubsan x4 flight control board...or at least the software. And I kid you not, the ones with the hubsan x4 flight boards have just as hard of a time doing flips as the original hubsan. Coincidence? i think not.
My X5C-1 has 2 tiny screws on the back side of the battery door, just remove the 2 screws, remove the Cam and you can still use the original battery door. Also Goo makes a 720mah battery that fits just fine and without the prop guards, gives you about 12-14Min of flight time! Note: even the stock battery gets quite warm in full time flight..the 720mah gets HOT! Take a break and land every 8-10min, let the battery cool and you will get even more total flight time on a single battery! I was going to try a key-chain Cam for FPV, but this Quad rocks much harder with no cam and Tri-Blade props! Now the long china post wait for my Walkera QR Y100 5.8Ghz 6 Axis FPV Quad Hexacopter Yahoo! Thanks for the Video!
Any way to use the camera afterwards? I want to use it for security in my room, cause I suspect my brother stealing things from me when I'm asleep or not home. I want to record him without having to purchase a real security camera. My phone can only record 20 minutes of video.
What I did was opened the battery cover, unplugged the camera then unscrewed the camera from the cover with the supplied screwdriver and put the screws back in the camera to save them. Then I closed the cover and I never had to take the cover off. Simple, clean and factory!
You're going to have to start off by practicing hovering. When doing such, keep the back end of the quadcopter pointed toward you. The following will help calibrate the gyros so it will hover more steadily. 1) Turn on the quadcopter and place it on a flat and level surface. 2) Turn on and bind the transmitter. Center all trim tabs. 3) Leaving the quadcopter undisturbed, move and hold both control sticks to their lower right corners. Hold them there until the quadcopter's lights blink. If they don't blink, then try lower right corners, lower outboard, or lower inboard until you notice the lights blink. 4) Let go of the sticks and try flying.
And here is my flight school blog with free flight tutorials. Best viewed on computer, and best if followed and practiced sequentially as listed in the right column table of contents quadcopter101.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-1-introduction-to-quadcopters.html
coloradopast, they don't make the camera-less X5 anymore. And if you can find one for sale, it costs as much as the camera version (it's like it's a collector's item). BUT there are many cheap $30 camera-less clone versions that were recently released. Am planning to do some reviews on them to see if they fly as well as the X5C.
You seem to have great control over the syma. I was going crazy until my son had the brains ( I was apparently not born with) to make adjustments to the fine tune controls while on the ground. Neat trick you suggested: switch the camera to get a longer flight time and better video!
Exactly what I was thinking. And if you can get it angled just right, you shouldn't have to remove the battery cover at all. Don't understand the need to remove the whole door like that in his video.
Good afternoon. This video is THE BEST. My daughter just bought me a JJRC-H8D, and I became addicted ... I'm a muscle car guy. My question is, how does the key chain camera function with the JJRC-H8D's remote control?
Thanks for another informative video! I noticed one of the front LED lenses is missing. I lost the same lens on the same side on mine. Anyone else reporting same problem? Possible design flaw??
Yeah, I've had lots of bangups out in the desert with this quad. Usually I would notice when one of my lens would pop out (and they do). But after one crash, I missed that it was missing. But Banggood has replacements, 4 for a buck www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-X5C-LED-Cover-Lampshades-Spare-Part-X506-p-926873.html But I'm fine flying without it.
Hello Quadcopter 101 , just a couple quick questions. Is there a significant weight difference between the 808 and the stock X5C-1 cameras? Also, is the 808 #16 the best bang-for-your-buck choice amongst all of the different versions of the 808's?
No they weigh about the same. That's why it's advantageous to use the 808 keychain camera as it has its own power source which doesn't reduce flight time (unlike the stock camera). The best bang is the 808 #16 V3 with the D wide angled lens. You have to be very careful, as there are many other versions of this camera, good, bad, and just terrible (usually can tell by the price). Or go here to learn everything that you need to know about the crazy808's www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml
Great video! I have a problem with my syma x5c when i turn on the quad the camera just stays red even though theres a sd card inside. How can i fix this problem?
Is there a way to cut out the audio on the camera on the x5c? It really isn't necessary to hear wind noise while flying. Could it be just to cut the yellow wire attached to the camera? Love the vids and info.
I noticed one of your LED lenses appears to be lost in this video. I took all mine off as the LEDs are actually brighter with these frost lenses removed. The LEDs on my quad sometimes momentarily blink in flight, does this have anything to do with a poor battery connection as described above? thanks
Good video, but from my experience, the camera doesn't drain nearly that much battery. It might take off a minute or two, but I've never had less than 5 minutes with the camera running the whole time. There is no doubt the camera is crappy though.
There is two screws on the back side of the door, if you remove them the camera detaches from the door then you can still use the door to hold the battery in.
Thanks so much for all your reviews and post! I have a question please,I know you said the X5C will work with the X11 and X12 remotes, will these same remotes work with the Syma X5C-1 ?
No Believe that I said the X5C-1 will work with the X11 and X12. Am not sure about the original X5C? BUT the X11 and X12 transmitters do not have working camera control buttons. In other words, you can not control the X5C-1 camera with the X11 or X12 controllers.
Believe it's around 9 grams. BUT have you considered a 808 #16 V3 keychain camera instead? It will give you much better video and longer flight time as the 808 #16 V3 its own battery. th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
Quadcopter 101 Thanks for the info! I know you strongly recommend that keychain camera for these applications for both video and flight time, so that was definitely something I was considering. I already have a Replay XD 1080 mini sports cam, and I was thinking about using that since it shoots incredible video and is small and very light, but it weighs in at 60 grams (which is heavy compared to 9g of the stock camera or even the 17g of the 808). I'm guessing my camera would be too heavy for this quadcopter, but I'm certainly no expert. I'm still thinking about getting this as a learner, but would you possibly be able to recommend something that I'd be able to mount my Replay to (if this ends up being something I'd like to get into, that is). Thanks again for your help and for the quick response!
KingInky13 Well yes, now that you mention it, would recommend this for your Replay. Powerful, fast, and with excellent range up to 300m. th-cam.com/video/F1UUXxLazq8/w-d-xo.html
I've been looking around for a while now, and am trying to find a small 720p camera the size of this one to attach to my Dromida Vista. Are there any video cameras that don't need to be connected to the quad's power?
+Cranders K I do like to use the 720p 808 #16 V3 keychain camera with my X5C th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html You can find it here www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
Jeremy Christine Well, IMHO yeah. Here's the 808 #16 V3 with D lens in action (be careful, there are many cheap imitators of the 808 camera).th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qavdra4aEaY/w-d-xo.html
Kevin Beachy That's why I remove the stock camera and fly with an 808 keychain camera. It has its own battery built in. th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
Quadcopter 101 The bad thing for me is, that i am a kid, and dont hardly have money to buy a drone(i want this one badly:) and then another 40 on top of that is a little to much for me.............
Kevin Beachy Here's one that's perfect for learning to fly (but without a camera). $23.99 with coupon code GBX11: www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_114523.html
I'm wondering if simply unplugging the camera would make ANY real difference in battery life? Simply unplugging it when you know you're not planning on using it.
Yes. The red and black wires provide power via a 3.7V LiPo battery. And to start recording, momentarily short the yellow wire to the black wire for about 2 seconds. Remember to stop recording before unplugging power by shorting again for another two seconds. You can solder on a micro switch between the yellow and black wire to do such, or simply touch the exposed yellow wire to the exposed black wire.
Thank you for your videos, i love to watch them and they've definitely gotten me into the drone hobby I just ordered my second drone :) keep up the awesome videos!!
Better than that, I got a flight school blog. Best viewed on computer. Just follow the tutorials sequentially as listed in the right column table of contents quadcopter101.blogspot.com/2014/12/quadcopter-flight-school-4-horizontal.html
But if you got a X5C, the best way to learn with it is to go out in a large field (such as one of your local sports fields). And just practice hovering, with the back end of the quadcopter pointed toward you. You will crash, and crash often as you learn what not to do. But eventually it will click, and you'll find yourself flying for a full battery charge without crashing. At that point, consider revisiting the above tutorial link.
Thanks Q101 been watching a few of your videos just wondering what you used Had my x5c1 for about week now awesome bit of kit very fast pretty shaw i was pushing 150 feet + yesterday with no mods to controler conditions where perfect I done cam mod to sort the angle out also brought 4 more 600 mah batteries probably get extra half minute compared to standard 500 mah battery! gonna do range mod to the original controller or do you get more range from syma x12 x11 controller ? I Like the look and syma x11c with camera
If you're new to the hobby, be very careful flying that high until you become more proficient. Wind speed can vary greatly with altitude. Also thermals (rising hot air) can become a problem unless you know how to get out of them.
Hey quadcopters 101. It's me again. I got an x5c-1 for Christmas and it's great! Only thing that bugs me is the range. I know you made a video about the extended range, but I was wondering if you could make a video on how to do it. The big thing I need is specifications, such as the length, the type of wire and such. This would be very helpful. Hope you have a great holiday
I just used a simple copper wire. Any good conductive wire should work. He made his antenna 1/2 wavelength (total length of the original antenna plus the extension = 62mm). Make it a little longer, then measure and snip off any excess.
100% excellent video. Concerning the landing gear, thought of garbage tie mods? I recently had a chance to take my Syma out for its inaugural flight nearthe Cumberland River in Kentucky, but decided against it for various reasons, including weather. But what about styrofoam landing gear? Ideas? One more big Q: tracking? had any breakthroughs or ideas about tracking this model?
Is there a cable that you can connect the drone's socket to the 808's usb so as you can take video and stills from the remote just like you can with the camera that came with the drone? Thanks.
+John B. No. Instead start recording with the 808 before takeoof, and turn it off after landing. Then use a video editor to cut undesired footage, or take stills from the video.
Thanks, I wanted to know because I wanted to be able to use the drone's battery to power the camera. I could make one but then I'd destroy the camera's wire. The 250mah battery in the 808 appears not to be taking a charge and rather than change it I thought connect it to the drone's battery. Now, if only I could find a wire with the right terminals.
Would expect ranges out to about 50m in the city due to WiFi interference. The 808 is not the best of the micro cameras. But it is the best that the X5C is capable of lifting on prolonged flights, without overheating/stressing its motors. Higher resolution cameras can be much more heavy. For example, the 720p 808 #16 weighs 17grams, while the better 1080p Mobius camera weighs 39 grams. That's a significant weight increase that may stress the X5C's motors.
Ok awesome. I just dont know if I should spend money on this or just go buy a more expensive one.. I was wondering what's your input for Cheerson CX - 20 and WLtoys V303? (is there any you would recommend for just taking video/pictures?)
Kngo01 If you are a beginner, these would be very bad choices. Crashing is a right of passage in RC, and so are fly-aways. Please read the following page, and please don't be one of "those guys" ;) quadcopter101.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-1-introduction-to-quadcopters.html
Doug Lewis The 17 grams 808 #16 V3 with D lens is the highest quality camera that the X5C can lift without harming its motors.www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 Here's some example flights with my X5C-1 and an 808 #16 th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qavdra4aEaY/w-d-xo.html
Sorry, but the X5C doesn't have enough lifting power for the GoPro. You'll need something bigger like the Tarantula X6 th-cam.com/video/F1UUXxLazq8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Qb-JGF2P7pU/w-d-xo.html
Quadcopter 101 In this configuration the battery seems to not make good contact. Any small vibration causes the quadcopter to turn off. Have any ideas? I noticed that the battery connector on your Syma X5C is much sorter then mine...
I moved the connector out of its internal slot so that I can plug the battery directly into it. Please see the following video at 24 seconds where I discuss how th-cam.com/video/xG3Qx9Tohro/w-d-xo.html
You can get four for a dollar here www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-X5C-LED-Cover-Lampshades-Spare-Part-X506-p-926873.html But I'm leaving mine off. It adds character ;)
Quadcopter 101 Great value - but I agree, I'm leaving mine off too! I'm wondering though why you don't just unscrew the camera from the battery cover and put it back in place then strap on the keycamera?
jam3s121 If you don't need the camera, yes. It greatly lightens the quadcopter to remove the camera. I don't recommend unscrewing it as the screws easily strip in their plastic mount holes. Recommend removing the camera and door entirely (it just pops off as shown in the video). And the door is not really needed to hold the battery in.
+treverlid87 Use the keychain camera's configuration software to turn off the time stamp, and/or rotate the video in the camera. www.mytempfiles.info/nr16/index.html
hi Quadcopter101, I did the same modification in the Camera but the image from it is "jelllo" and shakes a lot. how do you remove the vibrations from the quad. your videos have good quality, mines are rubbish, shaking all the time. thanks
+michaelitzhaki It may or may not. Syma has included several different versions of their receiver flight control board with the X5C. It's a 50/50 chance that a BNF quadcopter will work with your transmitter.
Well you can purchase the whole body shell which includes the door for $4.50 www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-X5C-Main-Body-Cover-Spare-Part-X501-p-926872.html Another thing that you can do is unscrew the camera from its door. But I don't recommend doing such as it can weaken the attachment points where the screws enter the camera shell.
Quadcopter 101 Wow, that's really cheap, considering the X11's look to be nearly $4 themselves. Whole lot more plastic and parts in an X5C body. Probably would pick one of those up just to have if I had one of these (which I keep thinking about getting).
Wait, isn't it the same door?? The version without the cam comes with the same door.. Just no cam. If you unscrew the cam it will be identical to camless version. Lol
Frequent Flyer RC Probably is. I guess having a spare would make field removal of the camera much quicker, and would reduce the likelihood of stripping out the screw holes in the plastic. But if you just took it off occasionally, I guess it shouldn't be a problem. Again, I don't have one of these but am thinking about getting one.
Note that I stripped out the plastic screw holes the first time I tried to reinstall the camera back to my original X5C. I just don't touch those screws anymore :)
I removed the bracket system on the H8C and replaced with velcro which gives me options of cameras or no cameras. Plus, have you shown how to increase flight time with a larger battery? I was able to fly the H8C with a 900 mah battery with little degradation of flight performance. 11:20 isn't too bad a flight duration..
Sounds like a cool idea with the velcro. But not sure that it's a good idea flying with larger battery, especially with the H8C. If you fly that long without a cool down period, wouldn't there be greater possibility of overheating and possibly damaging the motors?
Yes. I'm awaiting motors from Banggood but it's due to flying very hard on one of my videos. They are coreless and I figured they would go out. No big deal, I'm also awaiting the X6 which is brushless and I'll do my review with that. Too cold to fly here unless you be an Eskimo. Hey, glad you responded. I'd not heard from you for awhile.
MrPolymers Well I just did a video on H8C motor replacement for mine (took a month for the damn things to get here :(. Anyways, stay tuned. Still need to edit the video, but maybe it will be of help.
I actually replaced a motor with the JXD 392. Now, if you would actually watch my videos, you'd see the JXD motors are only 4 volt and the H8C need 8 volt motors. I got 1 whole flight out of it before it burnt up or just quit. Yes, they are easy to replace but doing a video is a good idea. Yes, the wait time is a BITCH from Banggood on the motors. ;)
Adi Surya www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 It can do videos like this th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
Well there once was a Syma X5, but that's kind of disappeared since the X5C came out. You can purchase a BNF camera-less, transmitter-less, and battery-less X5C, and also purchase a separate transmitter. But once you add it all up, the end price of quad, battery, and transmitter comes out to about the same as the complete X5C-1.
Hi Quadcopter 101, I have little quad experience but do have a pretty good grasp of the dynamics in controlling flight (perhaps my video gaming exp is coming in handy - idk?). I have been flying my brother's Hubsan h107 that I got him (errr, "us"!) for Christmas. Anyway, I am really torn between this X5C-1 > Onimus > and, a WL 969/or-stripped 262. Any votes? I'd like to have fun with flight, but I'd probably want some good videos out of it. It appears that the WL's have strength, range, and stay power to deliver with a mounted 808, ...... but I wanted an opinion from experience.
Out of that list, I'd personally go with the X5C-1. But if you can be patient, there are some neat quads about to be released: Headless mode X5C clone: www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_133530.html FPV Quads: www.banggood.com/JJRC-H9D-2_4G-FPV-digital-transmission-Quadcopter-with-2MP-Camera-p-958018.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 www.banggood.com/SKY-Hawkeye-HM1315-5_8G-FPV-RC-Quadcopter-With-Real-time-Transmission-p-954671.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 Low cost quad with headless mode, return to home, and altitude hold: www.banggood.com/Eachine-CG021-Strider-2_4G-Headless-Mode-RTH-ALT-Hold-Quadcopter-RTF-p-956821.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
Quadcopter 101 Thanks for getting back to me. That was the quad I kept going back to (for all practicality). Looks like I didn't even have a choice, because my dad already ordered me one w/o my input. Being a retired Army Heli pilot, he's probably more obsessed than I am .... in fact he got a Nano QX for himself!!! Hahahaaa. If any of those future models are compatible with a Spektrum DX6i, I would wager on breaking down and buying one of those as well (did I mention, he invested in a DX6i as well?). Let the quad fest begin!!! ;)
can you use that 808 camera and plug it into the quadcopter to take videos that way? so you don't have to start the video on ground then stop it when it comes back.
pushtrailer and here's some information on all the different versions of the 808. Some good, bad, and downright terrible (i.e. the $6 ones :) www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml
When I attach my 808 keychain camera to my Syma It can hardly lift it (Without Propguards and recently changed the motors). Is there a reason for this????
+Jake Starn Try spinning each of your propellers by hand, making sure that they spin freely. If there is any unusual resistance or small "bumps" in the turn, then you have debris in the gear teeth of that propeller. This debris robs power from the motors, and must be cleared with an old toothbrush or pin. If you fly with dirt in the gears, you will burn out a motor.
No it doesn't have the power to lift a GoPro. BUT if you are new to this hobby, you should hold off on risking your expensive GoPro until you learn to fly. The X5C, H8C, and other similar very low-cost camera quadcopters are excellent for learning the basics of flight, along with giving an intro to aerial video. I like the X5C in particular due to its excellent stability. In place of its stock camera, I like to use an inexpensive keychain camera for aerial video th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
+Soldier1287 No, that won't do it. It will just make it harder to lift off the ground. Instead, remove your prop guards to make it more wind resistant.
Honestly always do the helicopter with all the rubber bands and everything you could have simply just unscrew the camera from the door please try tell me how it works I know it works great I have done it
Banggood is reputable. But it is in China. Free shipping from China can take up to a month. www.banggood.com/Syma-X5C-Explorers-2_4G-4CH-RC-Quadcopter-Mode-2-With-Camera-p-913827.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
i see alote of ur videos...may b u can help me im having problems with my x5c1 it takes pic n records sound but no video tried top sd card same...any thing will help thanks
Your video player app on your computer or phone is likely outdated. Try a different video player app. Recommend VLC free video player www.videolan.org/vlc/
Orite ill check that out tomorrow...thanks for the response and the info...ill keep watching n thanks for posting ur videos...im new to this hobby so they help...thanks my freind
Hi there why dont you un screw it from the door :)
Thanks for the info. I had to find out the hard way. I had some real good video too. Lost it all because i did just that!
I did the same today. Had two really good first time practice flights but the video never saved!!! Suspect it was because never pushed down on the camera to save! 😢
+Quadcopter 101 Wow thanks this was very helpful
Thank you Quadcopter 101
I was going to waste money on a syma x5c camera and wait like 30 days.

The motherboard and lights are different, but the motors and gear assembly is the same as the x1.
Therefore, if you ever need to find readily available parts for quick repairs, you can get some cheap mass produced x1 parts and swap them out with the x5's. It will perform exactly the same.

Did you figure anything out?
What I did was opened the battery cover, unplugged the camera then unscrewed the camera from the cover with the supplied screwdriver and put the screws back in the camera to save them. Then I closed the cover and I never had to take the cover off. Simple, clean and factory!
Very nice. Thank you. Bought one for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas. She and I were scrambling for a good tutor video.
Vito, you can use a USB wall charger with the cable that comes with the quadcopter.
Yup already ordered mine. Wonder if a spot or two of rubber cement would help?
coloradopast, they don't make the camera-less X5 anymore. And if you can find one for sale, it costs as much as the camera version (it's like it's a collector's item). BUT there are many cheap $30 camera-less clone versions that were recently released. Am planning to do some reviews on them to see if they fly as well as the X5C.
also worth doing some string tied the 808 with the quad as well in case of some hard crash and preventing loosing that cam on process
You seem to have great control over the syma. I was going crazy until my son had the brains ( I was apparently not born with) to make adjustments to the fine tune controls while on the ground. Neat trick you suggested: switch the camera to get a longer flight time and better video!
Beter Camera available for $42 bit.ly/KeyChainCamera from BangGood
A cardboard door ???? remove the two screws from the back side of the camera/battery cover ...remove camera and place the battery cover back on
Exactly what I was thinking. And if you can get it angled just right, you shouldn't have to remove the battery cover at all. Don't understand the need to remove the whole door like that in his video.
Yea its easy just take the screws out...?
Great video! Anything better than the 808 keychain camera since you made this video? Thinking of trying this modification.
Good afternoon. This video is THE BEST. My daughter just bought me a JJRC-H8D, and I became addicted ... I'm a muscle car guy. My question is, how does the key chain camera function with the JJRC-H8D's remote control?
+Buick Torque It doesn't. You manually turn the camera on before takeoff, and turn it off after landing.
+Quadcopter 101 Thanks for your reply. Understood regarding manual off/on step. I really appreciate it.
Look up syma I x5 u c ,has more features on it altitude hold, double special battery packs, different transmitter, etc.
kool man, how big are the esc's ? id like to upgrade the motors. there is a few good ones that would be more power and longer time.
Visuo xs809hw vs syma x5c-1, which will you prefer for beginners
Yupp me two one both of my quads same lens
Well here is the proplem I want a sporty one that has a camera do u have any suggestions
i know its not hobby grade... BUT PLEASE do a review on the parrot rolling spider!!!
How do you make a drawl a get off the ground and I like flyer that you can make it balance and that is like it not going up
Hello Quadcopter 101 , just a couple quick questions.
Or go here to learn everything that you need to know about the crazy808's www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml
... I forgot 1 question; what's the maximum additional weight my JJRC-H8D can support regarding battery upgrades/camera upgrades ... 1-1/2 ounces?
Great video! I have a problem with my syma x5c when i turn on the quad the camera just stays red even though theres a sd card inside. How can i fix this problem?
Hi Quadcopter 101, nice video!! I will like to ask what's the flight time with every thing off?
I haven't flown it until it dropped yet in this configuration. But it's gotta be more than 7 minutes (maybe 8 or 9?).
Is there a way to cut out the audio on the camera on the x5c? It really isn't necessary to hear wind noise while flying. Could it be just to cut the yellow wire attached to the camera? Love the vids and info.
Use a video editor to reduce its volume, or mute it entirely. I use VSDC Free Video Editor th-cam.com/video/nkpUhJtED5M/w-d-xo.html
Good Video...does this new x5c-1 have headless mode...if it does what switch is on ?
Dinoxt12 No, sorry but the X5C-1 does not have headless mode. But the X5SC does.
As baterias do Drone X5C podem ser carregadas com um carregador desses de parede (celuar)?
There is two screws on the back side of the door, if you remove them the camera detaches from the door then you can still use the door to hold the battery in.
i have a drone with camera optional with a small connector like in this video.. can i install this camera.. ? available in ebay ?
Thanks so much for all your reviews and post! I have a question please,I know you said the X5C will work with the X11 and X12 remotes, will these same remotes work with the Syma X5C-1 ?
No Believe that I said the X5C-1 will work with the X11 and X12. Am not sure about the original X5C? BUT the X11 and X12 transmitters do not have working camera control buttons. In other words, you can not control the X5C-1 camera with the X11 or X12 controllers.
What is the approximate weight of the camera that comes with the X5C-1? This information would help in looking at possible replacements. Thanks!
Quadcopter 101 Thanks a ton! You've earned a new subscriber!
What quality and weight is the camera( without weight of the quadcopter )?
You can get the camera off the battery cover by removing the two screws on the bottom of the cover.
I've been looking around for a while now, and am trying to find a small 720p camera the size of this one to attach to my Dromida Vista. Are there any video cameras that don't need to be connected to the quad's power?
+Cranders K I do like to use the 720p 808 #16 V3 keychain camera with my X5C th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
You can find it here www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
is the 808 key chain camera really much better then the original camera? :)
Jeremy Christine Well, IMHO yeah. Here's the 808 #16 V3 with D lens in action (be careful, there are many cheap imitators of the 808 camera).th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/qavdra4aEaY/w-d-xo.html
Do you know in which format the 808 cam record?
Thank You
Kevin, recording with the camera cuts flight time essentially in half.
Man, that is pitiful.......
Quadcopter 101 www.amazon.com/Syma-X11-Quadcopter-Black/dp/B00L4O3IPK Is this the same one?
After you disconnect it can you plug it back in?
I'm wondering if simply unplugging the camera would make ANY real difference in battery life? Simply unplugging it when you know you're not planning on using it.
Hello im doing a project, im taking the camera and mounting it on a rocket how can i get it to record or work connecting it to a battery? Any ideas?
Yes. The red and black wires provide power via a 3.7V LiPo battery. And to start recording, momentarily short the yellow wire to the black wire for about 2 seconds. Remember to stop recording before unplugging power by shorting again for another two seconds. You can solder on a micro switch between the yellow and black wire to do such, or simply touch the exposed yellow wire to the exposed black wire.
thank you so much will try!
Thank you for your videos, i love to watch them and they've definitely gotten me into the drone hobby I just ordered my second drone :) keep up the awesome videos!!
Easier to use a piece of sticky clear tape ("Sellotape" in the UK)?
Do you have any instructional videos to help me in learning the remote and flying of the Syma X5C-1 Quadcopter Drone.
Better than that, I got a flight school blog. Best viewed on computer. Just follow the tutorials sequentially as listed in the right column table of contents quadcopter101.blogspot.com/2014/12/quadcopter-flight-school-4-horizontal.html
Are there any drone flight simulators for the computer?
Sure, free also. But you'll need a hobby grade transmitter to use with it fpv-freerider.itch.io/fpv-freerider
Good mod, very well thought out, thank you.
Also thermals (rising hot air) can become a problem unless you know how to get out of them.
thanks for the info i was thinking of the key chain my self and this confirms it for me !
Where did you get the keychain camera
I have a drone syma x5C, is to install camera fpv for an application on the mobile?
Hey quadcopters 101. It's me again. I got an x5c-1 for Christmas and it's great! Only thing that bugs me is the range. I know you made a video about the extended range, but I was wondering if you could make a video on how to do it. The big thing I need is specifications, such as the length, the type of wire and such. This would be very helpful. Hope you have a great holiday
Actually, it's been done already: th-cam.com/video/EQbRnQsHLHA/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/b_IWbiYfvfQ/w-d-xo.html
Yes I have watched those videos multiple times. Do you know what wire he used or the one you used
I just used a simple copper wire. Any good conductive wire should work. He made his antenna 1/2 wavelength (total length of the original antenna plus the extension = 62mm). Make it a little longer, then measure and snip off any excess.
Alright. Thanks a lot
Quadcopter 101 Does it matter how long the antenna's total length is or does it just need to be a range of lengths?
100% excellent video. Concerning the landing gear, thought of garbage tie mods? I recently had a chance to take my Syma out for its inaugural flight nearthe Cumberland River in Kentucky, but decided against it for various reasons, including weather. But what about styrofoam landing gear? Ideas?
One more big Q: tracking? had any breakthroughs or ideas about tracking this model?
so are you saying, that the flight time is much shorter when you have the stock camera on
is so, how much
Is there a cable that you can connect the drone's socket to the 808's usb so as you can take video and stills from the remote just like you can with the camera that came with the drone? Thanks.
+John B.
Hi. im thinking to buy SymaX5C. I was wondering how it would do in the city...
Also, is the 808 the best camera out there?
also what do you think about the UDI RC U818A?
Would expect ranges out to about 50m in the city due to WiFi interference. The 808 is not the best of the micro cameras. But it is the best that the X5C is capable of lifting on prolonged flights, without overheating/stressing its motors. Higher resolution cameras can be much more heavy. For example, the 720p 808 #16 weighs 17grams, while the better 1080p Mobius camera weighs 39 grams. That's a significant weight increase that may stress the X5C's motors.
Kngo01 And the U818A is an OK quad, but you really need to fly it on windless days, as wind can buffet it about due to its protective ring.
Please read the following page, and please don't be one of "those guys" ;) quadcopter101.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-1-introduction-to-quadcopters.html
what did you do with the camera
I currently have the X5C-1. what would be a step up from the camera? I'm already looking to upgrade.
Doug Lewis The 17 grams 808 #16 V3 with D lens is the highest quality camera that the X5C can lift without harming its motors.www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
Here's some example flights with my X5C-1 and an 808 #16
th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/qavdra4aEaY/w-d-xo.html
I'm sorry...what would be a good step up drone past this one? Didn't mean to type camera.
Have you looked at the Tarantula? th-cam.com/video/iZyc6Ij2EmA/w-d-xo.html
Sir. 101 does this x5c-1 can be mod with more powerful motors and does it have huge variety of upgrades? Thank you sir.
+Carlo Fontejon No it can not. But you can upgrade it to FPV flying th-cam.com/video/Mkp4Ymdcl38/w-d-xo.html
After seeing your video on the ht f803 I want that because i t is sporty and neat
nice video ...I just remove the 2 screws and camera comes off??
I can I have some advice my quadcopter goes left all the time any ideas ? Thanks
Recommend recalibrating the gyros (very easy to do). Only need to do this occasionally. here's how th-cam.com/video/hhLMbq3LkrM/w-d-xo.html
Great video I be been looking how exactly to remove the camera to put my gopro and fat shark. But I still want the original door. Any help.
Sorry, but the X5C doesn't have enough lifting power for the GoPro. You'll need something bigger like the Tarantula X6 th-cam.com/video/F1UUXxLazq8/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/Qb-JGF2P7pU/w-d-xo.html
Yes actouly it does. It's on youtube
vortex5c It will lift it momentarily, but at nearly full throttle. This will definitely damage the motors.
Shhhh my friend. Shhhhhhhhh
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's missing an orange light cover!
You can get four for a dollar here www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-X5C-LED-Cover-Lampshades-Spare-Part-X506-p-926873.html
But I'm leaving mine off. It adds character ;)
Quadcopter 101 Great value - but I agree, I'm leaving mine off too! I'm wondering though why you don't just unscrew the camera from the battery cover and put it back in place then strap on the keycamera?
Mark Daniels This is safer. The screws easily strip their plastic insert holes with repeated removal and installation.
Quadcopter 101 Good to know. Thanks.
If you wanted to, couldnt you just unplug the camera cord on the quadcopter and leave it there and would that increase flight time
+Nathaen Wanta Yes that would help some. But the dead weight of the camera would still be there.
ok thanks
were do you find the foam that you put on your dummy door in the box?
That's just shipping foam. I hang onto bits of the packing foam from my various packages that I receive as it comes in handy sometimes.
how do you know which side it's facing?
You know you can screw the camera off the door. And only use door?
you recommend flying without the door?
jam3s121 If you don't need the camera, yes. It greatly lightens the quadcopter to remove the camera. I don't recommend unscrewing it as the screws easily strip in their plastic mount holes. Recommend removing the camera and door entirely (it just pops off as shown in the video). And the door is not really needed to hold the battery in.
When I remove it, how much lighter will it be? Can it hold a gopro?
2STROKE POWER Nope too small.
with the keychain camera upside down on the quad copter won't the time and date be upside down when you review the video?
+treverlid87 Use the keychain camera's configuration software to turn off the time stamp, and/or rotate the video in the camera. www.mytempfiles.info/nr16/index.html
hi Quadcopter101, I did the same modification in the Camera but the image from it is "jelllo" and shakes a lot. how do you remove the vibrations from the quad. your videos have good quality, mines are rubbish, shaking all the time. thanks
Here's how presented by thxkid. He uses a V929, but the method is the same. th-cam.com/video/GtWRl6p9Jbw/w-d-xo.html
Quadcopter 101 thanks I'll try. thank you very much
Quadcopter 101 it worked!! thank you very much.
Tenho um drone syma x5c , tem como instalar camera fpv para um aplicativo no celular?
How can ı take the camera record ı dont know that
hello i have lost my Syma x5c
if i am buying an new one without controler my old one controler can work on it?
+michaelitzhaki It may or may not. Syma has included several different versions of their receiver flight control board with the X5C. It's a 50/50 chance that a BNF quadcopter will work with your transmitter.
What movie editor do you use to make your videos?
I use VSDC Free Video Editor for all of my videos. th-cam.com/video/nkpUhJtED5M/w-d-xo.html
Wonder if the door from the non-camera version is available from any retailers? Should be cheap if you could find it.
Well you can purchase the whole body shell which includes the door for $4.50 www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-X5C-Main-Body-Cover-Spare-Part-X501-p-926872.html
Another thing that you can do is unscrew the camera from its door.
Yes, the wait time is a BITCH from Banggood on the motors. ;)
kami, about 3 1/2 minutes with non-stop recording.
What app can I use
What camera did you replace with?
Adi Surya www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
It can do videos like this th-cam.com/video/Yk4p_9oEAb0/w-d-xo.html
Is there a upgraded cameraless version like a X5-1?
Well there once was a Syma X5, but that's kind of disappeared since the X5C came out. You can purchase a BNF camera-less, transmitter-less, and battery-less X5C, and also purchase a separate transmitter. But once you add it all up, the end price of quad, battery, and transmitter comes out to about the same as the complete X5C-1.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2EY1JM4314
Possum Lips Yow! That costs as much as the X5C. Might as well get the X5C and just unplug the camera :)
But if you can be patient, there are some neat quads about to be released:

Quadcopter 101 Thanks for getting back to me. That was the quad I kept going back to (for all practicality). Looks like I didn't even have a choice, because my dad already ordered me one w/o my input. Being a retired Army Heli pilot, he's probably more obsessed than I am .... in fact he got a Nano QX for himself!!! Hahahaaa. If any of those future models are compatible with a Spektrum DX6i, I would wager on breaking down and buying one of those as well (did I mention, he invested in a DX6i as well?). Let the quad fest begin!!! ;)
Quadcopter 101
by the way, that Eachine looks amazing
Yeah it does look cool. Can't wait to try it out.
can you use that 808 camera and plug it into the quadcopter to take videos that way? so you don't have to start the video on ground then stop it when it comes back.
+do do do do banana bus No sorry. You start it at takeoff, and end it on landing. Then use a video editing program to clip out unwanted footage.
Ok thanks, I got my first quadcopter about 5 days ago (foda d-13) and I'd like to get the syma sometime in the future
+George Rickett you can do that bro. i have done that too. I could capture pictures and record video using my remote.
+George Rickett just wait for a day, I am going to upload a video about how to connect it. I will provide u that link soon.
+Rushikesh Palkar cool

Quadcopter 101 which 808 key camera do you use ???

When I attach my 808 keychain camera to my Syma It can hardly lift it (Without Propguards and recently changed the motors). Is there a reason for this????
+Jake Starn Try spinning each of your propellers by hand, making sure that they spin freely. If there is any unusual resistance or small "bumps" in the turn, then you have debris in the gear teeth of that propeller. This debris robs power from the motors, and must be cleared with an old toothbrush or pin. If you fly with dirt in the gears, you will burn out a motor.
Ok Thanks!
Do you think that Syma can lift a Gopro??? I dont need to be fast just lift and be stable.
Quadcopter 101 this quad gives a thrust of 152g full power...the Gopro is 163g.i am planning to try Sony HDR AS20.89g
I thought adding a little weight would increase wind resistance because it's very light and I've had the wind take it from me like 2 times already
+Soldier1287 No, that won't do it. It will just make it harder to lift off the ground. Instead, remove your prop guards to make it more wind resistant.
Honestly always do the helicopter with all the rubber bands and everything you could have simply just unscrew the camera from the door please try tell me how it works I know it works great I have done it
Definatly buying one

Banggood is reputable. But it is in China. Free shipping from China can take up to a month. www.banggood.com/Syma-X5C-Explorers-2_4G-4CH-RC-Quadcopter-Mode-2-With-Camera-p-913827.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
