I know Willy Hermann is the best, but wow that is some BIG BUCKS for a cassette deck serviced! But then again, it is a top-end Nakamichi model and you know this thing's gonna out-lived you and probably every one of us - say another 35-40 years? Good thing is he's in Northern CA, and I am in SoCal just in case. My CR-7A has been serviced by ES Labs in CT, another well-known Nak service center. The previous owner whom I purchased from had it overhauled by them, including recapped according to the label inside the casing, and as such everything worked flawlessly. The good thing is at least its been serviced once in its life time. So far I have been using only Type I Normal Bias tapes for both playback and recording and the result is beyond amazing. When they say the recording is almost indistinguishable from the source material, they really mean it! Love my CR-7, and love the handy remote too. I use it mostly to 'play' and to avoid physically pushing the delicate buttons on the deck as they are known to separate.
‘Golden Ears’ cables.. 1970s ! I need to have my B215 revamped like your Nak. Nice system. SA 90’s were my tape of choice in the day. Still have most of all my recorded tapes still.
Calm down in the valley in Oregon, but have a friend that lives up in Seattle, and he said it was quite the weekend up there as you mentioned Taylor Swift, The Bite of Seattle, Capital Hill Block Party, and a Mariners game as well. Busy, busy!!
That McIntosh Poweramp reminds me the day I found a local audio store.. it was summer 1989, I walked in to have a look and it felt only rich people could go in. And I saw their demo room.. an amp similar to this and a set of XRT22s. The salesman even went so far as to plug in bare wires from a stripped power chord and plugged them into the 120v socket! 60hz hum from the wall. Disconnected it and reconnected the amp.. and just played some classical music. The following day my buddy and I were downtown half in the bag, we bought Led Zeppelin 4. It was almost 9pm but he let us in. And I put the cd on the system..and not loud. He came in and said, no! You need more volume. And cranked it I never heard sound like that and that loud, so clear. It blew me away. And I never experienced that again. We both left like we heard God. Sadly, I m not likely to ever find a set of XRT22s.. but I do wish for them.
Man, you are going to make me break out my Nak RX-505. I have a ton of tapes Metal, chrome, normal. The one item I’m actually surprised that isn’t in your system yet is a Reel to Reel Deck. You took me down memory lane with the comparisons and the recordings. I use to flip my monitor button from on to off for comparison to the original source. The blanks if you are buying metal and chrome tapes have jumped in price tremendously due to lack of supply. I always loved listening to the sound from on the different tape formulations. My CD player is the Audio Research CD MKII and I love it. Your channel wouldn’t be complete without that gorgeous view!!!
Hey Sid! Thanks for your continued support. Your RX-505 is really sought after nowadays. Finding a tech to work on/refresh these, is getting harder by the day. My CR-7A is my preferred source to listen to now. Reel to Reel is just to stupid expensive to dive into at this time. Thanks for watching brother! 🙌🏻
Thanks for bringing the memories of that era when we transferred the music from vinyl to cassetts to use with portable players and home cassette players. Any chance you can do same, mean make an recording from vinyl to cassette? This would make pure analogue bliss at the end. As always, great video!

ECM 1 MK 11 Streamer: Has anyone ever come across the problem of the remote control having the mute & volume up & down not working. Or, the digital inputs not finding a signal. Or the units first use, having the volume at 100 fresh out of the box ?
I've never tried the II. However on mine, doing a master reset & reloading the software over the network seems to clear things out as new, maybe give that a try 👍
hey vc ,this is a nice piece hifi artwork, as i live in switzerland we have a lot revox tapedecks here,i own reVox B 710 , but i am loocking forward to get my hands on a nakamichi i hope, btw i solve the grounding loop i had, it was the mt 2 turntable, it is now on his way to mcintosh for repairing, maybe i will upgrad to mt5 what you have, greetings klajess
Hey brother! Man, you've had some bad luck with the McIntosh stuff. I love my MT5 though. A big upgrade over the MT2. I am always rooting for your success! 👊💯🎼✨
ECM 1 MK 11 Streamer: Does any one know if this unit has an outomated tone compensation when the volume is adjusted? Like some preamps do to compensate for hearing losses of bass and treble as the volume is turned down !
@@srb4722 I've never heard of that ever, unless it has a loudness button? A true preamp is simply adding gain to the signal and should never impart any of its own influence on the music. Why the most expensive preamps simply "get out of the way". But that's just my experience in the past stores I've worked at, and my own equipment. Now with portable amps for headphones & IEMS, I have seen this, like the Ifi products. 👍🎼✨
@vpconcepts9838 Most preamps don't compensate without the button. However, some do, and even the salespeople don't know, unless they take the time to read the manuals, which many don't. As you know, when the volume of sound gets lowered, human ears lose sensitivity to high and low frequencies. Some rare preamps compensate for this accordingly. But it's important to have the amplifier output and speaker sensitivity matched, which includes room size. Home theatre systems use this too plus extra room correcting methods.
@srb4722 yes, in room correction, also the power supply in the electronics, slew rate, damping factor, etc...but without a loudness button or room correction-EQ applied, I have personally not seen it, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I just don't know of it. Best of luck in your search & thanks for watching!!👊🎼✨
I totally get that it's fun to play around with old technology like compact cassettes but thinking that it is (anywhere near) high fidelity is just wrong. A very narrow tape crawling at low speed over a static head results even with a topnotch deck in a lot of noise, loads of harmonics, limited frequency response at reasonable recording/playback levels and a channel separation of only 50dB measured with a simple single 1KHz tone. Then there is also tape saturation, linearity problems, flutter & wow off course. Dolby noise reduction systems are band-aids for the high noise but looking back nothing to write home about. Serious tape recording and playback is done on professional equipment with much wider tapes and higher speeds and even then there is always a lot of compromises. We have moved on for a reason. Oh, and "digital glare or harshness" are buzzwords from the beginning of digital recording techniques way back in time.
I'll keep listening to my cassette deck over my streamer, TT, CD player, all day. It's just that good. I'm talking about my Deck, not all decks. Thanks for watching Hadraai! 👌🎼✨

I use it as a DAC. The times I've adjusted volume, it just lowers the gain & gets quieter.
