  • Step by step video on how to fix G603 scroll wheel scrolling in random directions. Every time i scrolled down, it would randomly start scrolling up. I didn't show it in the video, but before the fix it was pretty bad. I hope this helps someone else who is having this issue!
    I made one mistake during this process. There is a beige ribbon connector inside the mouse that needs to be flipped up. I took it all the way off. Make sure to only flip it up!

    Update November 2022: Unfortunately, my scroll wheel encoder outright failed on my mouse. The fix was still working, but for whatever reason my encoder stopped working. I hope this hasn't happened for anyone else, but if it has I ordered this part from eBay and my 603 is good as new. I followed the same tear down process I showed in my video and did not install plumber's tape as I replaced the entire encoder. Hope this helps anyone who continues to have issues.

      Your mouse encoder was probably fine, those things apparently oxidize over time from sweat from your fingers. I've cleaned mine with WD-40 contract spray and it works like a charm, probably this will work with king of contact cleaning spray. Hope this helps a lot of people. In general the hole does not get bigger overtime, so probably the teflon tape fix, does not solves it at all.

      I think mine is bad because the white wheel that has teeths is worn out.
      It also has a little metal ring which marks the steps.

      @@DenisGeorgiev You are absolutely 100% right. The problem is just oxidation and dust inside the rotary encoder which is not encapsulated. Contact cleaner and compressed air fixes the problem in 5 seconds and you don't even have to take apart the encoder assembly.

    This method is so much better than another video I saw, which used paper. Thank you!

    Glad I watched the video all the way through before I started taking mine apart, gotta go get some thread tape, I'll update this comment once I try this fix.
    POST REPAIR UPDATE:
    It works! I used it to scroll to this video and comment! The repair was surprisingly easy, I used the screwdrivers from a small Glasses Repair Kit that I had and they did the job nicely, I can say for certain that the scroll is now completely fixed, though the thread tape does make the scroll wheel a little stiffer to spin, its not a huge difference.
    One thing I would like to point out, is that during reassembly, the tan ribbon wire that goes into the scroll assembly itself has a specific slot that it goes back into on that receiving connector, it is potentially difficult to figure out if you don't know what to look for, but otherwise, reassembly is just as easy as disassembly, just be careful not to strip the faces of the screws.

    Thank you! This fixed my Logitech G603. Had this problem for a while. Glad that I had everything to fix it. Used the same tape as you but a little bit smaller. Didn't disconnect the beige connector as I didn't want to take the risk of breaking it.

    @MarcosAntonio-rt5vz ปีที่แล้ว +3

    quick tip: you dont need to remove the delicate cable on the left, just the power one and then lay the upside part of the mouse at side while you do the fixing

  • @zyblack
    @zyblack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It worked for me too. Just a note that there is no need to remove the 3rd connecter (the beige connector written on screen) as I could do all the steps while leaving the connecter untouched. Thanks!

    • @AustintheJLman
      @AustintheJLman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! This is correct. You would only need to remove that final beige connector if you were to replace the entire scroll wheel encoder. Thank you for pointing this out!

      I just disconnect the first one

  • @DanielSylveste
    @DanielSylveste 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    WAKE UP! THIS DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM!
    Only reason why this migh work for a while is that while manipulating the scroll wheel (taking it off and pushing it back in) you move the contact surfaces of the rotary encoder in which the problem is. By pressing the wheen back into the socket you can - with a bit of luck - make the contact better for a short period of time. In a couple of hours or days the problem returns inevitably as the dirt/dust/corrosion/whatever is still on the contact surfaces.
    ONLY REALLY WORKING FIX IS TO USE CONTACT CLEANER SPRAY AND COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN THE CONTACT SURFACES OF THE ROTARY ENCODER OR GET A NEW ROTARY ENCODER ALLTOGETHER.

    @valentina8999 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This method really helped fix the “backscroll” problem. Thanks for the video! The scroll wheel started spinning only in the right direction. What became different: the wheel spins a little more tangibly and you have to press harder on it to click the mouse wheel.

  • @krymtON

    I have same issue. My question is - what cause the problem? Was the gap between the scroll wheel and encoder? If so, wouldn't it be better to use hot glue/superglue instead of tape? :) Any idea?

    • @DanielSylveste
      @DanielSylveste 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Problem is caused by oxidation of the contact surfaces on the rotary encoder. Can be fixed in a few seconds with contact cleaner spray.
      This "fix" instructed in the video does not fix anything.
      Just buy a can of contact cleaner spray, open up the mouse (no need to disassemble the rotary encoder), spray the encoder with cleaner, scroll the wheel for a while to both directions, and you've fixed it.

  • @greyrock420

    Thank you. Worked for me. I did not have thread seal tape. Electrical tape was not sturdy enough and was tearing away. So I just put there piece of paper. It works well. But wheel rotates with more friction now. It is little worse feeling, but much better than scroll back effect. That was driving me nuts!!!
    One more important thing, You did not tell us that when you are removing cover, there in front there are small 2 plastic locks in the middle. Roughly same position as scroll wheel edges. It is in video in time 2:13 where it holds in the front you take it out of camera and break it open. When I opened it, one plastic lock broke. See here:
    drive.google.com/file/d/1BgLjTFiwKaYisJQJfGZ_igdgjLBtXvi_/view?usp=drivesdk
    And I think for you it happened same... Luckily it does not feel missing when assembled back together.
    Also some ppl claim that it help them just to use firmware update from logitech web page. I tried and I think it improved but did not fixed it fully for me. The link is here:
    support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024848853-Download-G603-LIGHTSPEED-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse
    But the piece of paper was ultimate fix for me. I was little skeptical but it really worked. Thank you.

      Not registering may be an encoder issue. Mine did not feel heavier when I applied this fix.

    • @AustintheJLman
      @AustintheJLman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Yes it is a pain. I actually took mine apart again and found that I really only needed to remove the ribbon cable at timestamp 2:40 in order to access the wheel. I took all the way apart in this video to be extra cautious of damaging tiny cables, but looking at it again I didn't necessarily need to. The top half will just hang off the side from the red and black wires. Good luck!
