My dad used to fly a dash 8 q400 for air Canada express/jazz as a first officer. This was really cool to watch!

The pleasure of being able to see everything that goes on inside an aircraft cockpit is fascinating! It is as if we here on this side of the computer were part of your team too
Beautiful aircraft. I can see how the glass cockpit really simplifies things for the pilots. Also a great video, as it shows what really goes on in the “front office” on a typical flight!
Beautiful plane and awesome pilots. Air Canada is a great airline and I enjoy their videos. Awesome takeoff and landing that sounds great. Beautiful skies and landscape, and amazing view of cities. I love it, awesome video.
@14:26 “Just to keep you sharp, because I am sure you don’t do it often, we’ll be landing right into the wind today”. Loll, this comment was bang on, I can totally relate to this. Also, a perfect reply from the pilot.
kakgary Here in Toronto, most of the times they use Rwy 24L,24R,6L,6R,23,05 even when the winds are ofcourse by 70-80 degrees. Although, they have Rwy 33R,33L,15L15R but they barely use it. That’s why the controller said you don’t do it often but u’ll land into wind today rather than a crosswind landing.
Igor_Sharko_a350 thank you and yes we release brand new videos but also videos from our 30 years of filming. As we more than 200.000 new followers a month we want to give our new people a chance to watch some of our older work too.
JP......Good Afternoon!.....very nice insight the cockpit .....disciplined Captains at work! Many thanks for this filming and your time!! Take care and have a lovely week ;-)) Greetings Betsy.
SOP for sure! However, it can look odd to non-pilots. I recall being passenger on a King Air 100 with a small regional airline, where there was no cockpit door and you could see everything the pilots were doing. A sweet elderly lady remarked to her seat mate during the takeoff roll-out, “How cute! They’re holding hands!” 🤣
The reason is so that either pilot who sees anything amiss with the gauges during the takeoff roll can initiate a rejected takeoff, without wasting crucial seconds, providing V1 (the point of no return) has not been reached.
Mostly for backup, but also dependent on airline SOP the pilot flying will roughly set thrust, then whilst he focuses on directional control, the pilot monitoring will fine-tune the thrust to be exactly where it should be.
2 big surprises for me on this video that differ from the training material I've been reading: Pitch hold at aprox 5 degrees for the climb giving 215 knots; and a flap 35 landing with long runways at Pearson. The normal book climb speed is 185, and 35 flaps are recommended for shorter fields. Interesting. And the old-timer said "with you"....oh god.
The Dash 8 / Q400 HUD combiners (the piece the pilot looks through, from Flight Dynamics, later part of Collins) were an older optical technology, using a hologram in the center of 2 pieces of glass bonded together (curved surface on the inside for optical reasons). The HUDs you see on something like 787 are newer (also from that part of Collins), with a single (and thus thinner) curved piece of glass.
I could hear Quebec City ATC speaking French to the pilots of another aircraft. Not a problem for me as I’m bilingual, but I always wonder safety-wise how that affects unilingual English-speaking flight crew travelling in and out of there!
They only speak french with certain aircrafts and only if they know for sure they speak french. For example, Air Transat and Nolinor are 85% bilingual pilots... it's safe to assume they speak french.
Nice video but..... pilot in right hand seat was chewing gum or his cud. Either way not a good image. Perhaps edit this type of behavior out in future videos
Kenny Mac some pilots do chew gum. We’re happy we are invited to film them at work but we can’t tell them what to do what not to do. And if you can provide an editing program that cuts out chewing I’d be happy to order a copy from you 😉

Canadians are a civilized bunch, and their country is the most beautiful I've ever had the pleasure to visit, and Lord knows I've been to a few.
When flight training can get stressful at times, I always come in here to stay motivated!
I love the relationship of these pilots. Professional yet lighthearted, and deeply caring.
Two seasoned professionals! Pleasure to watch.
Both these guys are true pros and great coworkers!
Loved seeing this. I have flown that route as a passenger a couple hundred times since the early 2000's. Mostly on the Q400.
Luc Van Bavel glad you enjoyed it Luc and thank you

One of the best JP videos that i have seen.
Dave Donnelly glad you enjoyed it Dave. Thank you
Great flight and landing. If I can one day afford to attend Commercial Pilot College I will. Thanks for the video.
Ted Turner you’re very welcome and I wish you the best of luck!
did you end up doing it ted?
I love Props and watching pilots flying them! Another fantastic video JP!

Most enjoyable - a very interesting and informative video. Thanks to the professional crew members.
Remind me my first cross-country solo when I landed in Quebec city behind Air Canada Q-400! 😀
Look who's up front now!

Classic Air Canada/Jazz professionalism.
Jeff Cowan very true Jeff. We filmed them for 3-4 years and made 13 films and everyone was 110% professional.
Awesome down to earth supportive Captain! All others should take a page from his book!

Thanks very much Jon, glad you like the video and stay safe as well.
The Q400 is my all time fav... Although I've never actually flown on one. At the rate they are retiring, I doubt I ever will.
Lovely aircraft ❤️
Best turboprop in the world !
Liked the magic marshal ending - free too!
The mighty Q400! 🙌✨
Great flight and landing.
Ted Turner glad you enjoyed it!
Two Captains!!
Nice video
Captain Airplane thank you
I don’t know for others but Pearson has always been a bumpy arrival for me .
Its indeed often windy and bumpy maybe because its near the lake...
Lovely video 📹 guys.
Awesome!
Old Crow Pilot glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
Great flight and landing, didn't feel anything. My compliments to PIC & Co-pilot.
Professional crew 👍👍👍
thanks god I'm here
Beautiful video I am hoping to obtain my PPL and work towards becoming a pilot. Maybe I could fly for Jazz and I hope to reach Air Canada! Liked again
Didn’t know these came with heads up displays!
Helllo Just Planes...goodmorning from Indonesia...goodluck for your channel.
Miftahjaya96 good morning and thank you very much 👍✈️
First! Can’t wait JP!
Great! Thank you Jeff
One of my favorite programs, just with there were more flights on the Q400 in it. Oh well :)
Awesome
You guys are making me regret not getting my commercial license and going into this full time
Awesome video! Very informative. Compared to other types how does the Q handle for landings?
It lands like a shopping cart falling off of the curb. Flap 15 landings are the typical configuration for smoother landings on it.
Yellow ‘Bleed’ annunciation on take off... you guys can take off with bleeds norm/max?
wait hoooldup. I didnt know theres a printer for the vref speeds!! Is that standard in the Q400?
When will you started flight from Canada to Istanbul
It's so Canadian how they push the throttle forward together.
Ya Nah, that's standard operation procedure on multi engine commercial flights. Everyone does it.
@LookUp1985 Ok, for US carriers, Not for Canadians, we work together.

Crazy go see footage old enough that they're using paper charts!
wow
I thought the left seat pilot was Jerry Michulek
Why do both pilots put their hands on the throttle during take-off?
Mostly for backup, but also dependent on airline SOP the pilot flying will roughly set thrust, then whilst he focuses on directional control, the pilot monitoring will fine-tune the thrust to be exactly where it should be.
@@cohen200 You’re right, however with FADEC the Q simply has detents for power. No fine tuning necessary.

GSWM 1 ya that was too bad. We spent a week filming them so we know them well and feel bad about the collapse!
Fun video.. fun guys..
Heads up, that's Jazz.. not Air Canada. Just sayin
Plane is a bit small though hopefully Air Canada plans these flights carefully because small planes are very dangerous
Whatever you say,
The marshaler seemed a little confused
12:38 VNAV descent VTO.

why do you always do pilotviews for your premires
The last Pilotsview video we posted on this channel was more than 3 months ago...
Why was the pilot that was conducting the walkaround wearing an Air Canada hat?
Jazz is Air Canada
@@oceanhome039 They are not the same company.
I should have been more specific. Jazz is a part of AC Express
The pilot flying looks like jack BOER lol
The ground crew marshalers were a lot to be desired! No pride for their profession!
