Run away eng. revs. Brought it to a friends favorite garage in Penn. changed idle motor. Ran OK all the way back home. about a week later, same problem. So, being old school, I pulled the wire off the idle control, made me a old school idle adjustment set up on the gas pedal under the dash. Been that way since Oct. 2013. Yup, ck. eng. light on all the time. I adjusted the idle to 550-600 rpms with my throttle idle screw on the gas pedal arm. Truck has 332,000 miles on it. Runs just fine. Sorry for the long post.
I have a 2001 Ford f150 5.4 , I feel a little shake at around 1 and 2 mph right after I let go the brake pedal, what could it be? It runs fine is just that little shake at that point of 1 and 2 mph
The symptom of my Blazer idle air control valve going bad is that it sounded like the fan under the hood was louder than normal. I'm not saying louder valve train noise, I'm talking just the engine cooling fan sounded louder than it should. A new idle air control valve fixed it.
Yeah the shifter if you just pull the bottom cover off there’s a adjustment wheel.pin back tells you whether you’re in park and it’ll adjust it back it’s really easy to do just pull the bottom steering wheel cover off.
Just bought a 1999 f150 5.4. I have a similar situation. When my truck has been off all night and I first crank it in the morning it doesn't shake or anything. Once I drive it a little bit will start shaking when I'm stopped or parked. The rpms don't move around to much stays about 1000rpms. Seems to get quieter when in neutral. Changes throttle position sensor, plugs and coils, air idol control valve and pcv valve and it's done nothing to fix the problem. Check engine light is on. When I'm over 40mps and accelerated it doesn't vibrate or shake or surge. I also recently had a couple times I went to start it and it would crank first couple times almost like a dead battery but then third time started right up. So, lost at this point lol
The benefit that you have… is a Check Engine light which is rare with “this” idle problem. You should be able to at least pull a code off of the OBD. Let us know
my 97 f150 has the same problem, when I drive on the highway, then my brakes don't work right, I have to almost stand on the breaks to get it to stop. I just did what you showed here, I'll have to see if it worked.
Mines would go from 1k to 3k while driving below 10 but it randomly did it ? Felt like when the PCV hose is loose idk man never had a truck so I'm on youtube checking every possible solution
Mine is doing this too, only when the AC is on max ac full blast and idling for extended periods of time. Then when I try to drive after being idled for awhile it will buck and shut off causing me to have to let it sit for awhile to cool off
I didnt have the bucking problem. Just a Serge at idle. I think, I may be wrong but ac might be over pressured. I heard that may cause you a problem. Have you checked it? Now the bucking might be a vacuum problem. I'm probably wrong, but might check the vacuum lines to see if any are weak and collapsing in. Let me know what you think or find out.
Clean the MAF sensor, replace the pcv valve, clean the throttle body and replace the TPS sensor before screwing with this nightmare Idle Control Valve!
@@jeffpeterson5387 I'd clean the mass air first maybe replace. Clean with electrical cleaner. If it looks really dirty check the air box see if it has any leaks. Next I'd check the o2 sensors. I've cleaned mine before. Soak is gasoline over night. And reinstall. Pull battery cables off and touch positive and negative together to wipe any codes. (Works sometimes but not all the time) or if you have a code reader. Just clear all trouble codes and before start up and see what it does. May have a intake broke, or bad gasket on the intake. You can try spraying carb cleaner around the intake first to see if it changes the idle. If so, it's the intake.

In this case it was for me. I cleaned it. It worked for awhile then came back. Ended up buying a new one. And haven't had problems in years. Now my oldest son drives this truck. 250k on it and still ticking.
@@AfterHoursProjects They may be going bad on people due to the spray that's being sprayed in there but who knows. Did you pull those injector's yet and check the screens? Tell him if he ever pulls those injectors he needs to remove the fuel line clips on both fuel line inserts to get at the back injector's plug on the driver's side. I have a k&n intake installed but I keep hearing a loud humming noise what can it be ?
Noise wasn't present with stock intake? Humming at all times or only idle? Or while driving? High rpms?

Mine goes to 2000rpm on cold start and doesn't go lower than 1100 after it warms up and transmission don't shift normally
Have you put a scan tool on it to see what the codes are?

Not sure the IAC is the culprit.
