    My high school friend, was a woman I admired and adored. She loved and played guitar ALL THE TIME, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Forever missed and admired.

    It's really sad to know that she only lived eight days after this was recorded. RIP, Emily and thanks for sharing your wonderful music with us.

    she would have had a career that went on forever-she had such a natural style, such a driving power and a beautiful sense of melody. She would have been one of the great guitar players of our time, and developed some music that we can only imagine. Really her style is what makes guitar such a wonderful instrument for jazz, more than any other instrument. If is so sweet......and this solo is truly a gas.....we love you Emily, you will be missed forever-Ken in San Francisco

      Exactly my thoughts when I came across this performance. th-cam.com/video/bVGTMvBQZcc/w-d-xo.html She played like a Boss. She had found her voice, was so unique, and who knows where she could have gone. She would have changed the Jazz world given another 5-10 years. Another Miles maybe. A whole new generation of players inspired. Ah well, we have what she left us and that is worth a lot ... Respect.

    She was just such a tasteful player. Her rhythm was incredibly good, her sense of melody and improvising is just out of this world. Such an underrated player.

    I am stunned to find and watch this in-studio performance, just eight days before she died. I started listening to her in 1981 when I bought "Firefly," and album I still listen to. Never got to see her in person but I've thought since '81 that Emily was one of the finest jazz guitarists I ever heard. RIP maestro. Because of women like you, doors were opened for other women instrumentalists and bandleaders (Mary Halvorson, Melissa Aldana, Grace Kelly, Linda Oh, just to name a few.)

    She looks like a beautiful flower, dying. So sad. Such a great talent. I only discovered her awhile ago. I have such deep respect for what she did in such a short time. I can understand how depression and pain can bring out the best in you in art. She deserved happiness. I hope she has it now.

    She was so good, worked so hard for all of it. Time, tone, taste, everything…she had it all. If she’d lived, she’d have hopefully gotten the recognition she deserved.

    • @hackerguitar
      @hackerguitar ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Fermati Chebellosei She had a lot of respect from players of the time. I got to see her a bunch and she did not disappoint. She came up in a time when jazz had been largely sidelined by the music industry and popular taste, and consequently, she had difficulty getting exposure.

    • @hackerguitar
      @hackerguitar ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Fermati Chebellosei She did suffer, extensively. She also left a great body of work. She wasn’t recognized during her lifetime, and that’s a shame, bc, like Eva Cassidy, another great musician who never quite broke through, there are a lot of people who don’t know her music - and the market has critically reassessed their work 20+ years after they died, and found more value in it than when they were alive.
      And glorifying suffering….hard work does not equate to suffering. Those who think it does, worry me.
