The production only had one take in downtown Chicago for the scene. The city of Chicago only allowed bthem enough time, which was one day, to completely set up and completely dismantle. There were more cameras set up for one scene of a movie that had ever been done before so to be able to get every angle and every impromptu move by the crowd. It’s unimaginable to think that something that large scale could be pulled off with one take and come out so absolutely perfect. It’s one of the greatest scenes in comedy in the modern era. they advertised on WLS radio to come down to the very real Von Steuben Day Parade and be an extra in a John Hughs film - about 10,000 additional people showed up, providing great long shots. I'm listening to Paul Hirsch's autobiography, "A long time ago in a cutting room far, far away...." (via audiobook), right now and he's at the part discussing the parade scene. Paul edited "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Footloose", episodes IV and V of the Star Wars movies and many other films over the years. It's cool listening to him talk about how he put scenes together. This particular scene had a lot of jump cuts which worked out really well when put together. He said there were 3 takes of the "Twist & Shout" song used to get the right amount of coverage needed. He said the release of the balloons happened after the 3rd take and the energy seen in the movie was completely authentic even after the same song being played 3 times. I recommend others who love these movies to either find the audiobook or the book itself. Hirsch doesn't narrate the audiobook himself, but the narrator (Richard Ferrone) makes you forget its not Paul.

Can you imagine doth singing and playing Twist and shout simultaneously? They did so multiple times as well.

Awesome, funny 80's movie with a great message. Life moves pretty fast. If you dont stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Always loved this movie. Weird Science was another classic 80's comedy movie too.
this scene always reminds me of my old high school. The band was able to do Twist and Shout multiple times at one of the end of the year dances, and the lead singer was also doing the guitar work. Can you imagine doth singing and playing Twist and shout simultaneously? They did so multiple times as well.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
Ferris should be on TV
this film gives me such good feelings every time i watch it. it never gets old.
this is actually the best scene in cinematic history and you can't argue with me
To have been an extra in this moment would have been wonderful! I wasn’t even born but this song makes me shake it up baby! Twist and shout!
3:20 I love how the camera rolled slowly and fooling people that it's a quadruplets on a suit.
Estava com 21anos quando vi esse filme, hoje com 59 curtindo esse som. 12/06/2024
Can imagine how fun it was to be in the thick of this scene filming!
I've just been in Chicago once again and this movie always comes to my mind, whether it's Walking on Dearborn Av, or visiting the Art Institute of Chicago, or the Willis Tower Observatory, it's always there. Ferris Bueller, he is a fantastic character, cheerful, witty, fresh and very intelligent, I love this movie.
I got to know about this movie three years ago through my best buddy & I can't thank him enough. Danke Schon buddy
Gen X had films like these - with Ferrises and Camerons (and there's many films like it with memorable and relatable young characters), it's stuff like this that really shapes a generation.
This scene is one of my favorites and also the work of art montage from this movie. Good stuff. I come back and watch this every now and then because the pure joy it makes me feel like i'm involved and there.
I am all the way in on the people dancing in unison near/on the stairs. Love it every time they appear. Great scene overall.
Man the 80s were so kickin ❤️💯🤟🏼🤘🏼 Lol I was born in 93 so I never got to experience the 80s
I was born in 2009, so I didn’t get to experience the 80s, 90s, or 2000s. It looked so much fun though
@@awesomespoon11 the 90s was a trip lol THATS why they call it the last greatest decade ❤️💯
I was born in 1976. Literally was 3 when the '80s started. The only thing I can remember of the first 13 years of my life is the '80s.
This is movie, the 80s weren’t like this in real life
I was born in 88, so at the tail end of the '80s. At least I got to enjoy the '90s.
