  • Since we never got to see the 919 EVO mod in action at Spa, I figured it would be nice to take to the track and try and beat the 1:41:770 set by Neel Jani

    I'm seeing comments here about the DRS, and track conditions, and the ability to change the setups Jimmy has as compared to the real life counterpart, but let's be real folks.
    Professional drivers have the benefit of, literally, an entire team of expert engineers and analysts to set up a car. They don't NEED to do many setup changes, the car is pretty much where it needs to be when it hits the track. Jimmy has a computer and some driving/tuning know how. Advantage: Real life.
    This race car has a DRS system which gives it a further advantage in a straight. The virtual version of this car doesn't. Advantage: Real life.
    In most sims you can recreate track and ambient conditions, but that's not really necessary in a sim race, especially for a hot lap challenge. Let's say the conditions are a little better for Jimmer here. Advantage: Broadbent.
    Also... this is virtual, so as well as the track and car are recreated, the speed around a circuit depends on the physics and tire models. As close to real as it might be, it's not real, and that's advantage: Broadbent.
    There is also one bit of information that a sim racer doesn't have: Seat-of-the-pants feel, or G-Force. This makes it tougher for real world drivers to handle corners due to the gravitational forces on the body, but also gives them a better feel for acceleration and cornering. Advantage: Evens out.
    All of these things considered... Jimmy Broadbent, in a virtual Porsche 919 Evo, just set a faster lap time around Spa than a professional driver in the real-life counterpart. No matter what, it is HARD to beat a professional driver. Don't take anything away from this incredible performance.
    GG, Jimmy. GG.

    • @BradChadley
      @BradChadley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Ronald Wright Jr. The best comment in regards to Jimmy's "controversial" time if you will. Well said.

    • @emilebrown2964
      @emilebrown2964 6 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      Ronald Wright Jr. Not really Jimmy could've pushed as hard as he wanted without facing any consequences while the real life driver probably dosent know the limits of the car and is risking his life if he pushes over the edge to be honest I don't understand how you can compare a lap in a game to real life.

    • @JReaLBiz86
      @JReaLBiz86 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Emile Brown Jimmy COULD push as hard as he wanted with no consequences. However, a sign of a proper sim racer is that he'll treat the "game" as though it's real life. This is obviously Jimmy's approach here.
      Don't forget that professional drivers use sims to get accustomed to race tracks or find nuances to improve lap times, because these cars and tracks are all laser scanned and accurate to the mm. There's plenty that translates from one of these sims to real life.
      Also, give a professional race driver his due credit... They push their equipment to the limit, same as anyone on one of these sims. They simply approach it differently, in that they have to warm up to it, while a sim racer has the ability to go over the limit with no consequences. I've seen professional racers go over that edge, and it ain't pretty... But it's what they live for; finding out where that limit is.
      You should try one of these sims some day to understand the difficulty that goes into running a fast lap. It's not Need for Speed lol

    • @acat6821
      @acat6821 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Ronald Wright Jr. if you put him in the real car on the real track, he would probably struggle to get around in 2:30 let alone come close to the time he set on the game. Driving in real life is a different beast.

    • @JReaLBiz86
      @JReaLBiz86 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      A Cat this is true. But if you think about it, even when moving one driver of one type of car to another type of car, it will take hours of seat time to be competitive with a hot lap. All the same, if a professional driver just jumped onto a sim, he wouldn't come close to setting the time Jimmy does on the sim. Hell, if another sim racer jumped right on Jimmy's setup, he probably couldn't run a similar time.
      It's all in knowing your platform. What's insane to me is that people are trying to take something away from Jimmy because he's on a sim, comparing his time to real life. I mean, for God's sake, you've never done something similar on a racing game? I know I have, and the closest I've ever come to MATCHING a top pro lap is coming within .2 of a second.
      We (As a whole when it comes to these commenters) are critiquing this way too hard, man. WAY too hard. Do a check list: Do you love racing? Check. Do you want to see someone go fast? Check. Wouldn't it be cool if he could go as fast as the real thing? Check. Jimmy just did. Wow!
      I sim race, and I couldn't run the lap Jimmy did in the sim. I'd probably be more than a half second off. Just appreciate what this dude accomplished is all I'm saying.

    That was some A+ driving mate. However I still think you could shave off 0.3 to 0.5 seconds off the entire lap because you did some corners with a very early apex that are better suited for late apex (I have many hours on Spa so I know it quite well). Just think of how fast that would be...

  • @stupidrainbo
    @stupidrainbo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I went go-karting for the first time in my life a few days ago, first time I ever took a car ("car") to its limits. The G-forces were so intense, but it felt so satisfying. I was using the whole road, jumping on the gas at every opportunity, braking as little as possible, turning as hard as I could, cutting corners, maximizing all possible G-forces the tires could handle. I thought my experience in Forza and eventually Assetto Corsa would translate really well, and I really felt like they did. Then I looked at my lap time, 21 seconds. Nice. What's the record for the week?..... 17.8. I fuckin quit.
    But it was great because once I got in my car and left I accidentally (literally, like subconsciously) sped like a friggin madman and took corners waaaaay too fast. Pretty sure my tires squealed a few times before my normal driving senses took back over.
    I have to go back. I'm addicted now. 20 bucks for, like, 7 minutes of driving? Worth..... I think
    But the reason I write this (forgot) is because those G-forces changed me on a deep, fundamental level. What in the holy fuck would the driver who set that record at spa have felt.

      To be honest, most karting tracks have a kart which is an absolute missile compared to the others karts (in my friends group we call those No. 9's). Put the right driver (light and experienced) in there and they can set monthly records in a breeze

    • @adrenaline4life233

      Yeah go karts always have one that’s faster for some reason. Chock it up to being newer or recently having maintenance done. Go back and try to beat the record and ask if you can get the fast one lol They’ll know which one is fast

    • @zeyzerx3722
      @zeyzerx3722 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know know what kind of karts you’re talking about but i assume its rentals? because i def dont think there is a 17sec lap for 2-strokes lmao. Anyway i can find some faults on why you’re off the pace. First off you said that you were turning hard at every turn? That’s absolutely a bad thing to do especially in karts, if you watch any of the high level karting you can see even on the hairpins there is absolutely no degree of steering at all, like the steering is always straight no matter what. Also on the gas part, its definitely not a good idea to jump on the gas even on rentals ( believe me, i had to find this out more times then i can admit, on some days my driving is on par on world championship levels and some days i look like a blind man with broken a broken spine driving mostly because i’m driving too hard ) its better to be smooth in pretty much everything and never go 0%-100% because while it feels fast, believe me it’s not. The most boring lap is often the fastest one and the most exciting lap is often the slowest one. You can easily shave off at least 2.5 seconds if you’re just driving calm even if you think its slow. Yeah, also on rentals the karts are always different, i dont drive rentals anymore as i’m moving to OK karts but when i was racing rentals some karts were 5 seconds slower than the fastest one so its all on luck as well.

    Interestingly enough, and possibly DRS/Downforce related, the car ran at 307 through Eau Rouge and had a top speed of 359 at the end of Les Combes. Obviously the car had massive downforce to help it through all corners, and the DRS helped it shed a ton of it on the straights.

    Lmao a 1:40 IRL at spa is definitely possible for this car...
    Porsche team said that they didn’t really prepared as much I think... they prepared but not like customizing the setups like 10 times or more...
    I cannot imagine the possibilities with this car... the fact that Slim Jim beat the record is nuts... that would’ve been a very low 1:41 with DRS and a very clean lap... SHEEEEEEEESH

    What's the point of racing with so much of traction control and stability control on? I see no point in such things. It's not racing but an Arcade game. Assetto Corsa allows switching those assists off and man up to the real race. How do I know? Well, it's very clear but if it is not, then take a look at cornering at 5:32: It's almost full throttle at the first gear when the steering wheel is 90 degrees - this will lead to a whirligig spin without very heavy assists (or Arcade like mode) on. Also who uses first gear anyway in real racing - nobody. Yes, it will spin around and do doughnuts very well in the first. Here it stays stable like in some arcade race game. That's not how cars behave, especially race cars. Race cars are much easier to spin, ten times easier to lose control of, except for the amateurish GT4 series. Assetto Corsa is a good sim and it allows simulating race cars well. What's the point of using it as an arcade game. Not much sense except for nice graphics. The manufacturer of this sim should have removed assists for race cars but I guess it's not gonna be fun then, not being able to beat pro race drivers' lap times and spinning out and around in every corner.
    You may hate and report this comment but if you want the truth watch this video: _He's going to spin again! - Simulator tips with F1 Lando Norris._ I'm only gonna put in my two cents here: Formula cars are a lot more stable as they have much more down force. So they don't spin out often unless the driver really messes up. And yet with assists off skilled sim racers (they do use assists although they swear their life they don't) just spin out and show terrible results. Usually. Not everyone is like that.

    12:08 try lengthening the 7th gear ratio because you're up at 7900rpm on the straights whereas I think 7600 would be more useful; give you some more engine torque
