  • The Israeli government has approved thousands of new housing units in settlements in the West Bank despite a recent UN resolution calling for a halt to building and saying the establishment of settlements in the Palestinian Territory “constituted a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the vision of two states living side-by-side in peace and security.” Conflict Zone host Tim Sebastian visited the settlement of Efrat to speak to its mayor, Oded Revivi. Are settlements hindering peace in the Middle East? Join the debate below.

After watching Tim's most recent VISCOUS session with a Palestinian, I decided to watch this OLD Conflict Zone interview to get a sense of balance. Surprisingly I came away with an understanding of why, Bibi is NOW ... attempting to CASTRATE Israel's supreme court. CZ has become one of my favorite programs because of Tim, the man is an OG. A fair peace between the Israelis & Palestinians on their terms, will be added to my LONG LIST of prayers for this world, but I won't hold my breath.

So the settlements are the obstacles to peace? How come Israel didn't have peace before 1967, then?
And why was the PLO created before 1967?
Why would they even be considered illegal, if Israel was being attacked by other countries and won the land, fair and square?
Why if they were the obstacle for peace, hasn't the Palestinians agreed to any offer given to them about land, including those that include where the settlements are built?

Hey Tim, how dramatic was the situation in the Farhud in 1941 in Iraq, where Jews and their children were not only evicted from their homes, but also murdered, and their homes, their property, their land stolen and confiscated. I don't see you defending their cause. When you'll interrupt your guest next time wondering about the "BUT WHAT?! WHAT'S THE BUT?!" from your high horse, remember this fact of history that is so conveniently left out from the mainstream news and shows like yours.
And remember that because of persecutions like these the Jews had to evacuate their increasingly hostile diasporas from Morocco to Iran and eventually came to Israel. Why don't muslim Arabs do the same and return the favor and evacuate from Judea and Samaria to their wast lands they have now from Africa to Asia? Who really has the moral high ground here? When you look at the ignored facts of history, it's obvious the Jews have it, but that is not "politically correct" to say, isn't it, Tim?
    To use your own words:
"Don't you ever have a twinge of guilt about that sort of situation? Doesn't it ever give you pause for thought?"

Your solution of evicting the palastinians will most probably not be acceptable to anyone except the extremists from both sides. All you are doing is making a case for people who believe the land being illegally grabbed by jewish settlers is a problem.
You are confusing what you think is a solution with a fact. The fact being the israelis are not going anywhere and neither are the palastinians so strong arm tactics to gain land will not help serious negotiations. And for the last time SETTLEMENTS ARE A BIG PROBLEM whatever you are hoping for, denial of this fact does not help the situation neither does getting angry or giving history lessons, shall we split it between all the previous occupiers? The British and turkish for example . I begin to doubt you seriously want peace.

It was never about land, but the bloody nose they all received after the 1948 war of independence. They failed to prevent a State of Israel. and will never get over it. The western world wanted their oil, invaded these countries, changed their governments, then used Israel as the bargaining chip, to offset their own guilt that continues to this day. If you don`t accept that Jerusalem is Israel`s Capital then you perpetuate the problem.

Those factories used to provide work for thousand so Palestinians as well, but as soon as the last Israeli left Gaza, The Palestinians leaders just went and bulldozed all those factories to the ground!!! This is the mentality of the people Israel needs to deal with and make peace with... Unbelievable.

Hamas was begun in 1984. What was the obstacle prior to 1984? How can peace even be considered when sides wont simply keep to the law. Imagine you are entitled to a bedroom. I move my brother in to the room, put restrictions on your movement. attack your family when threatened, then refuse to move my family out. What is the obstacle to peace in that scenario? This is and will always be a land issue. It started as a land issue in a society that lives off the land. Maybe try keeping to international law and see if there will be peace.
