@Krishashok - definitely, the pesticide content in fruits and vegetables grown in India is higher, than that in the United States or the EU. The tolerance for pesticide level in the west is much lower than our testing levels of the FSSAI here.
I hope you also realise that most of the crops in US and UK are bred or genetically modified to be resistant to pests. Hence the user of lesser pesticides. However, they have a habit of monoculture farming. So when their GMO crops for get pests that can kill them, it's consequences are usually apocalyptic. I'd rather have variety of veggies and fruits with a 1 mg dosage of hyper-specific pesticide than be deprived of bananas due to the banana apocalypse created by a specific strain of fungus that targeted that specific type of bananas and farmers were dumb enough to not use a fungicide (this really happened in the 1950s)
I agree that there are no obvious advantages of organic food on human health, but there is clear science about the downsides of pesticides on soil health. I personally buy organic food for soil health reasons.
I never heard of any small scale organic farmers near me using inorganic pesticides as you mentioned. The organic farming poses a variety of mixed cropping methods to escape from the pests. So consider buying from a local organic farmer if you could. And remember the pesticides will kill other harmless insects too. And nice video!! Keep doing
Hello Ashok Sir, Your video makes complete sense to everyone. But please consider my views from a farmer perspective. 1. Every scientist has recommended 70 to 80% of the organic fertilizers and 20 to 30% of the chemical fertilizers. But farmers have forgotten the rule or they dont even know anything about it. They go for 100% chemical. 2. I have seen the deaths of farmers due to prolonged pesticides usage. This is very common in pomegranate, ginger, cauliflower, cabbage and grapes growers. 3. If we are consistently using the chemical fertilizers, yield will go down every year and we need to give more and more fertilizers to the same land. 4. Carbon in the soil has terrifically gone down in many states of India. I'm from Karnataka and the soil which is good for agriculture is only 40%. This number is decreasing every year because of chemical fertilizers and pesticides usage. 5. There are states in India where they use more pesticides than national average. This resulted in food and water contamination. This again resulted in Cancer trains running. 6. Soil carbon must managed properly. And if we use chemicals regularly, there are chances of varying the pH of the soil. 7. India is price sensitive nation. People often choose low quality pesticides and fertilizers. The residues will remain more in the soil and the crops. The videos you have made is completely from the consumer point of view. But it is very important to understand how farmers are growing and what are their practice. I wish you make a video on how farmers growing your food. The good and bad practices which are being followed. last but not the least - My big thanks and salute for your knowledge and the impact you have made on my life. The conclusion of this video is drawn from this utopian idea that we live an isolated life away from rest of the nature. However, more and more scientists are now talking about the gut microbiome, and how all sorts of micro and macro organisms are vital in sustaining us. We can not simply think in terms of "for human body only", we are far more connected to the rest of the planet than some would like us to believe. I would have loved to see another expert here with a contrarian view for a balanced picture.
It is not - if you look at the data, it’s not as if scientists or companies don’t understand the tension between sustainability and practicality. The point is that online discourse is distorted towards the utopian, organic, cage free pipe dream.
@@krishashok I am just saying there is a contrarian view available. If you say others are wrong, you must bring in someone from the other side as well. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10026936/#:~:text=Exposure%20to%20pesticides%20can%20significantly,their%20effect%20on%20the%20host.
@@krishashok My limited point is that there is serious ongoing research on effects of pesticides and preservatives on our Gut Microbiome and other organisms that are connected directly or indirectly to our health. And nobody was present on this program to present the other side. A simple Google search on "Pesticides and Gut Microbiome" gives you plenty. To conclude that everything is okay and we can continue like this is unscientific to say the least. And since when did companies started caring for the planet more than their profit margins? It's only the discourse and people actually began looking at ingredients that companies are reacting. The so called "Health Drinks" are a glaring example.
This one video is enough to understand how a human-centric worldview can justify any crime against the ecosystem. Hats off to you Mr Krish for pulling off this amazing feat again and again through your 'scientific' presentations!
C'mon! Which is more valuable? A single human life or a hundred animals? If you chose the second option, then I respect your opinion but then you should be a vegan. If you're not, then you're just a hypocrite.
Very informative video. I stay on the 7th floor of an apartment building and started my own kitchen garden. Chillies, Brinjal, ladyfinger you name a few along with tomato plants. And all the bugs and beetles along with their families started dropping in. It hardly grew a few feet and was ravaged by them. There's no way we can grow then think about the farmers. Neem oil, mustard seeds cake all are good for few days.
Thanks for the insightful content! I found it fascinating how you compared the proportion of pesticides remaining in crops, their impact on rats and the economics of crop yield. And your advice to take time to process and understand content from social media is really valuable.
Life is so simple when one realises how much one should eat. Overeating and not moving enough is the biggest concern that one should look at before worrying about anything.
Great video as always and enjoyed this content to remove multiple misconceptions. Thank you for your efforts. I also want to suggest you to throw light on misconceptions of using urad at homes of certain people: In some (brahminical) homes, one is not supposed to make vada and thereby also not use urad on a daily basis. However, very same people make idli and dosa batter regularly which still uses urad. And also go and eat idli vada at every single outing. Then why this dichotomy and is there is any sense or reason behind such practices? I am also curious as to how did this start in the first place. Thanks.
In general it’s best to not try and find modern scientific reasons for practices that might be purely cultural. Of course some will be grounded in practicalities of past times but in many cases, when you find contradictions, it’s probably cultural

About masalas or spices....yes that the pesticide or wtever chemical is used is in the whole thing and then when its grinded it will be the same if you do it in home or buy the market ones ..but what about the ( maybe rumours) of them adding different things in them like colour to make it look more appealing or different stuff to reduce the amount of masala in a packet and lower the rates in the market?
@@krishashok The said test had been done in Singapore & I believe in Hong Kong too. My understanding is the chemicals (EO etc) are added by the manufacturers after the spices are ground; that it (esp EO)does not pre-exist in the whole spices before the grinding & mixing. If we grind spices at home, this definitely can be avoided.
Does organic farming in India by local farmers use the mentioned chemicals or it is used only in US and EU ? There is a difference between us grinding the spices and buying a packed version. But we wont know what other additional ingredients (preservatives and taste enhancers) used are safe for consumption on a longer run for packed spices.
The big problem with modern agriculture is not the pesticides .. it is the amount of usage of fungicides. I will give an example of my uncle who has been growing ginger for more than 20 years now. there was almost no soil borne diseases then, now he is losing almost half the crop every year despite increasing the usage of fungicides every year.. Our soils are bare, they lack organic matter , and hence all the beneficial soil biology like before the green revolution.. With my own experience with farmers in my village in the outskirts of Bengaluru, this video does not capture the real issues with modern agricultural practices and how our soils are being destroyed every year. Our farmers have becomes slaves of these companies that make these products.. All problems start with our farmers excessive usage of synthetic fertilizers among other causes like excessive tillage which causes soil compaction etc.. I believe our farmers can reduce the impact greatly even by growing cover crops for 2 months in an year by putting all the organic matter into soils.. and still follow modern agriculture.
Look it’s a complicated issue. Organic farming can also be done sustainably and without too many input pesticides etc but all I want the public to realise is that they are businesses too!
Dont come to conclusions that small amount of pesticides are harmless. Remember that Science is infinite, still many things unknown, continuously evolving.
The current evidence suggests we are better of using pesticides than not using them. Without modern industrial agriculture, famine would be back on this planet regularly
Hi Ashok uncle, i have a selfish question about the food sensitivities that ive developed as an indian who moved to the US as a college age adult. Is this a common phenomenon? Thank you much!
I am curious how you'd look at the benefit of Green Revolution and its eventual decline in food production. Plus the proposal of Evergreen Revolution as to its sustainabilty factor across country w.r.t. realtime practices by farmers on the field.
Hi, would like to know your thoughts on adulteration after grinding the spices. In Indian markets for example they are adding lead in turmeric powder and making people think of grinding their own spices to avoid consuming excessive lead. Please share 🙏
Great information. Can't thank you enough for all the research and efforts you are putting into making these interesting subjects. During my practise, I found patients coming with vomiting and diarrhoea after having taken watermelon, KFC, fried rice, grilled chicken, biriyani and shawarma the most. That too after having freshly cut water melon, I have always wondered why? What are your thoughts on it?
Well, an interesting video - Pesticides in very minute quantities are always present in almost all edible items and its safe to consume them. So are detergents when you wash your cutleries, utensils etc. and they too must be safe to a certain extent. Plastic bottles discharge microplastics in whatever is stored in them and they are also safe to some extent. People consuming Bisleri water always, fall ill with stomach upsets and all if suddenly they have to take a glass of tap water some place where they see a lot of people are taking it with abandon and not falling ill. I have seen a beggar on the street collecting rain water from the road and drinking it. No, he didn't fall ill as I used to see him almost daily. I have seen people on the roads eating left overs thrown in the trash cans and on the roads and a lot of people just do not wash any vegetables or meat and just consume them. If a well to do person had even taken one bite, he would have gone to hospital within a few hours. In many lower middle class homes, people just do not care for all these 'healthy' living and just go about their lives. And such people constitute a very large population.
In the few instances of my doing cooking, I have observed, at two different times, smell of DDT in 1. Radish, and 2. In beetroot, as I was peeling them. Now, I have some background in chemistry, and I also smelled DDT, and I could identity it. It was so overly obvious, that I had to discard them. Point is, can it get to that level, and if so how? Here I am not talking about ppm and ppb levels, it was so obvious, despite my cleaning them thoroughly. It wasn't on the surface, it was inside, it hit strongly as I was grating them. In both the cases. How could this happen? Then again, once, I could smell the same, in cooked vegetables served in a railway meal. Does it get to get into the inside? Since then I stopped eating railway food, once I had to live on biscuits for 28 hours. Comment/ reply?
@@krishashok exactly my point! It was so obvious, that it couldn't have been ppm. It was so strong. Wonder how it was possible. I wonder if it is water soluble, and entered the tuber through the roots. Some botanist might know.
We are calm for many decades and will be going forward as well. Sitting at a desk in front of a computer and going through dozens of web pages can not tell exactly what is going on around. Rampant use of pesticides is what I can see around, profit hungry corporations, decade old government policies, farmers trying to save every bit of their harvest .. the ideal world that uses chemicals just right do not exists, and never will be. Lets eat what is available and hope for good.
Thank you for this important video. However, I have a question to ask. In the past 10 years or so, I have seen increase in Cancer patients in our village, which is not really exposed to industrial waste in water. And, most of them are Farmers, who produce on their own and consume it. Do you think it could be related to overuse of pesticides? If yes, how to test and prevent in future generations.
What about it? Also, there is a difference between effect for end consumers vs effects on people that use it daily to apply it on crops without proper protection
Do we really know the cause of cancer in Punjab? I think more investigation is required because of how complex cancer is, even taking into account the gene pool of the people of a region...
@@bikeshmehta2002 Again, more investigation required. Contaminated with what? What sort of cancers are caused? What is the population affected? What is the percentage of that population affected? Not to mention the reports I found are way back in 2013 - 2015 and it doesn't explicitly state pesticides other than a news article that doesn't give actual insight on this. The one article that does give insight said the cause was Uranium and other heavy metals which aren't agricultural pesticides. The one 2023 report clearly states consumption of water from a canal contaminated with effluent waste from factories and not agricultural pesticide run off...
@@bikeshmehta2002 Are you sure? Most of the reports date back to 2013 and state contamination by heavy metals like depleted Uranium. These are not present in agricultural pesticides available in the market. @Krishashok - definitely, the pesticide content in fruits and vegetables grown in India is higher, than that in the United States or the EU. The tolerance for pesticide level in the west is much lower than our testing levels of the FSSAI here.
There is no doubting that regulatory capacity is low, but unless you show data, it’s just hand waving.
I'd rather have variety of veggies and fruits with a 1 mg dosage of hyper-specific pesticide than be deprived of bananas due to the banana apocalypse created by a specific strain of fungus that targeted that specific type of bananas and farmers were dumb enough to not use a fungicide (this really happened in the 1950s)
such an eye-opener. It's the best TH-cam channel for me at the moment.
Thank you!
It’s always like sitting in a waterfall of knowledge while watching your videos. Calming and informative.
Thanks
I agree that there are no obvious advantages of organic food on human health, but there is clear science about the downsides of pesticides on soil health. I personally buy organic food for soil health reasons.
Good for you!
@@krishashok Can't you put your ego aside for once!?
I never heard of any small scale organic farmers near me using inorganic pesticides as you mentioned.
The organic farming poses a variety of mixed cropping methods to escape from the pests.
So consider buying from a local organic farmer if you could.
And remember the pesticides will kill other harmless insects too.
And nice video!!
Keep doing
Yeah I agree with what you explained. But what about the effects of pesticides on soil?
Hello Ashok Sir,
Your video makes complete sense to everyone.

Was not expecting a video on critical thinking and pseudoscience from a food channel of all place. You covered almost all of my pet peeves: pseudoscience, organic farming, appeal to nature, chemophobia, misunderstanding of toxics, discussion without nuance and junk videos masquerading as informational ones. Keep it up.

Informative video. Facts spit off. Thank you for uploading❤
Thank you so much for this video sir ,it means a lot to me, i am one of the parent where i was always afraid of giving anything to my daughter . I am from a middle class where i was in constant guilt that i was not able to afford organic vegetables and other stuff for my child . This created a lot of stress in me thank u a lot . I am literally typing this with tears in my eyes
Enjoy!
Thank you so much for this informative talk.
You have definitely managed to clarify almost all doubts and myths people have. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, thank you.
We all really needed an education on this topic.

Thank you very much for this informative video. One more terror is spread just like these here about mosquito repellent liquids that we use at homes. Really a much needed video this one is.
Thank you.
@@krishashok
I am just saying there is a contrarian view available. If you say others are wrong, you must bring in someone from the other side as well.

What a video, so eye opening for everything. Sir awesome video 🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌
What a bold topic to choose . I have a bias to the way you speak and present things - please keep going ! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you
Dude, I just wanna say - you're awesome!! Thank you for your work and awareness!
This video was NOT sponsored by pesticides companies...
@zoyavijay Sure, I'm totally convinced it's NOT!

Hi, what about overuse of chemicals resulting in soil damage and contamination of groundwater? Thanks
Extraordinary. As usual, I'm gonna share it as much as possible, in the interest of public safety(and actually awareness). Thanks Ashok :)

Every video of yours is an eye opener 🙏 fear mongering is the strategy they use

When I was a child 3/4 years old, municipal authorities used to come and spray DDT in our home periodically.
Rumours are easy to spread: guess what is even easier? Actually testing for this in a lab and proving it. Why not do that ?
@@krishashok is it possible for us to do it somehow?
@@krishashok The said test had been done in Singapore & I believe in Hong Kong too.
My understanding is the chemicals (EO etc) are added by the manufacturers after the spices are ground; that it (esp EO)does not pre-exist in the whole spices before the grinding & mixing. If we grind spices at home, this definitely can be avoided.
This person is the mentor I always wished to have.
But thanks to TH-cam at least I can watch his videos for free.👑👑👑
Does organic farming in India by local farmers use the mentioned chemicals or it is used only in US and EU ? There is a difference between us grinding the spices and buying a packed version. But we wont know what other additional ingredients (preservatives and taste enhancers) used are safe for consumption on a longer run for packed spices.
I love the tshirt "Aaniye pudunga venaam!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hehe
Thank you so much for this video.. . 🙏
My pleasure 😊
than.... what is the cause of cancer prevailing in punjab (cancer Train)
Holy moly my whole perception was wrong. One question I heard organic farming is good for land (soil) and have high nutrition value is it true?
Look it’s a complicated issue. Organic farming can also be done sustainably and without too many input pesticides etc but all I want the public to realise is that they are businesses too!
Thanks for breaking all myths . I never personally believed them myself .
Excellent
Dont come to conclusions that small amount of pesticides are harmless. Remember that Science is infinite, still many things unknown, continuously evolving.
The current evidence suggests we are better of using pesticides than not using them. Without modern industrial agriculture, famine would be back on this planet regularly
Could you please provide the info about where you learnt these things?I'm curious

Hi Ashok uncle,
i have a selfish question about the food sensitivities that ive developed as an indian who moved to the US as a college age adult. Is this a common phenomenon?
Thank you much!
Thank you for the very informative video
Thank you!
I am from a generation where we were using ddt and suddenly it's banned when I was a teenager.
I am curious how you'd look at the benefit of Green Revolution and its eventual decline in food production. Plus the proposal of Evergreen Revolution as to its sustainabilty factor across country w.r.t. realtime practices by farmers on the field.
The green revolution was a moment-in-time thing that helped us achieve food security. Food systems require continuous adaptation
@@krishashokhave you had some historical data on what led to Us needing green revolution?
Hi, would like to know your thoughts on adulteration after grinding the spices. In Indian markets for example they are adding lead in turmeric powder and making people think of grinding their own spices to avoid consuming excessive lead. Please share 🙏
No one is adding lead to turmeric powder. It is far more likely a case of soil contamination
Very hard to diagnose or point to a specific thing like pesticides in this case. Could well be bacterial
Thanks sir . Is there any difference in soil richness between normal farming with pesticides and permaculture. Please provide feedback
I don’t know. Will have to check
Eye opener as always...😊
These tend to be parts per billion so I’ll be very doubtful that you are smelling it
@@krishashok exactly my point!
Thanks a lot for such valuable information. I was always fan of your Insta posts n now it will be move to more detailed TH-cam videos

What about cancers in Punjab region? just curious
What about it? Also, there is a difference between effect for end consumers vs effects on people that use it daily to apply it on crops without proper protection
Do we really know the cause of cancer in Punjab? I think more investigation is required because of how complex cancer is, even taking into account the gene pool of the people of a region...
It's the contamination of water table.
The one 2023 report I found stated explicitly that the cause was contamination of river water with effluent waste from factories. Not agricultural pesticide run offs.
