    The 7 minute disclaimer/explanation at beginning in a 27 minute video shows how close minded and resistant to change we can be, often unwilling to even consider or logically engage with an opposing perspective.

    "If you use science, someone will peer review it." What a line. It should be the caption of a T-shirt.

    • @sumedhwale
      @sumedhwale หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      This modern understanding of foods and nutrition is pseudo-science at best which varies wildly across sources and most of it is based on questionable sources much less peer reviewed. The problem with this video is cherry picking sources and passing it off as "science" on par with physical sciences.

    • @sreeyt
      @sreeyt หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@sumedhwale Absolutely, navigating the world of dietary advice can be bewildering. Even among esteemed scientific journals, you’ll find studies with differing conclusions about what’s healthy and what’s not.
      The reason for this is multifaceted:
      Evolving Science: Nutritional science is constantly evolving. New discoveries often reshape our understanding.
      Study Design: The design and methodology of studies can vary greatly, leading to different results. Some studies might be observational, while others are randomized controlled trials.
      Population Differences: What works for one group of people might not work for another due to genetic, environmental, and lifestyle differences.
      Confounding Factors: Many studies struggle to isolate specific dietary factors from other variables that could influence results.
      Given these complexities, the best approach is often to follow balanced, evidence-based guidelines and listen to your body’s unique needs.

    • @sumedhwale
      @sumedhwale หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@sreeyt The main reason is that there is no comprehensive model of human body, for example, that can help model the effect of foods etc in a precise or even approximate way. The complexity of human body means that all these nutritional studies are mostly hit and trial samples, so passing these as "science" is very disingenuous. At best these are statistical studies based on extremely small samples over a very limited duration of time.

    • @sumedhwale
      @sumedhwale หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sreeyt Effectively these nutritional studies are hardly different from "anecdotal" evidence albeit with somewhat larger samples in some cases. There are very very few things that are established on firm grounds after being observed consistently over a very large number of studies. In most cases those conclusions are not very different from what we know from our traditional knowledgebase.
      Either way the point being that passing it off as "science" is plain falsehood. Of course, nowadays folks hardly care about what "science" actually implies and you have all kinds of stuff labeled as a "science" to provide some kind of higher level of legitimacy to it. Just like in the past (and occasionally even today) people used to write stuff as they please and pass it off as legitimate shastra.

      You said it very well - the point is to separate criticizing the individual from criticizing the idea.

He has surely picked the best of different philosophies and packaged it well in small consumable portions for different categories of people. He has surely single handedly made Mahasivarathri back in vogue. I will give him that! Even when it comes to you, I am category 3 😊 you know how to give your opinion very convincingly. I appreciate your efforts in educating us about food choices. However, I noticed a few aspects that might benefit from further exploration:
    19:41 Diversity in food choices doesn’t equate to all being equally beneficial. Different foods affect our physical, mental, and spiritual states in unique ways. Recognizing certain foods as “better” for specific goals isn’t disrespecting diversity-it simply acknowledges their suitability for certain purposes.
    22:54 You question the effect of negative pranic foods by focusing on their nutrition, like seafood. While it’s nutritious, it’s classified as tamasic in terms of the energy (prana) it imparts, which is different from its nutritional content. Prana and nutrition serve distinct purposes.
    23:19 No one, including Sadhguru, is forcing or looking down on anyone for eating non-vegetarian food. For example, Sadhguru mentions eating seafood is the best thing to do in a coastal region and even otherwise. This doesn’t imply any judgment on others' choices, but rather situational flexibility.
    I noticed your shirt humorously (perhaps, intentionally too) says, “Illa enakku puriyala (No, I don’t understand)”. When exploring complex topics like prana in food, it’s helpful to deepen understanding before forming conclusions. Perhaps finding clarity on these aspects could add even more depth to your content 🙏🏻

    • @krishashok
      @krishashok  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thank you for your well-thought out (and polite) comment. On the first point, yes, different foods affect different people differently, which is exactly why one specific idea of "good food" simply does not exist. On seafood, the very idea of it being classified as negative comes from a bias against animal sources of nutrition (with the convenient exception of milk, which again suggests that geographical bias of those ideas that are being passed off as universal).

    • @kavyarajan5735
      @kavyarajan5735 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I just wanted to clarify that “negative pranic” doesn’t mean “negative”/”bad”/”unhealthy” in a general sense. In the context of yogic food, classifications aren’t simply based on animal vs. non-animal sources. Foods like garlic and onions, though vegetarian, are also considered negative pranic. Given how dairy is processed today, it makes sense to view milk as tamasic. So, your argument about milk is valid in that sense. However, the classification relates more to how certain foods affect one’s energy and mental state (like focus or calmness) rather than a judgment of their origin or nutritional value. This perspective is nuanced and takes into account the type of energy each food brings to the body and mind. It is context-dependent rather than absolute.

      @@krishashok Tamsic food also includes mushrooms and many plant-based foods like onion and garlic. So, no it's not bias against animal sources of food. May be you are insecure about being a non-vegetarian.

      If the suggestion is that food Prana affects focus or calmness, then it should be possible to test these claims empirically. If the effects cannot be measured then it would seem that the benefits of saatvik eating are only available to those who already believe that that food is saatvik, which indicates a placebo effect at best. If indeed food prana ideas are contextual then it is the responsibility of those advocating these ideas (Sadhguru and many others) to bring that context, which is missing.

    Respectful discussions are important and in the spirit of that here are a few points.
    Your views are valid but ignore the fact that science is reductionist in studying specific variables and arguably does not hold the capability to understand the subjective and extremely individual human physiology and experience. So to use it as gospel truth is not rigorous epistemology.
    Chillis are subjectively hot and cause you to sweat, mint is subjectively cooling but if ayurveda starts to talk about these "properties" that all foods in between have and their various "tweaking' effects on the "complex system" that is the body - everyone in the scientific community tell us there is no evidence. Ayurveda is not discrimatory casteist or hierarchical about food it merely states food has properties not just 'chemical components ' like protein carbs fats micronutrients. Some ayurvedic practices recommend meat or bone broth. Moreover no one is passing a moral judgement on people's eating habits- it's just that people turning spiritual will naturally find themselves more sensitive to the subtle properties of food. Listen to ranveer brar and how he beautifully states food is meant to serve your purpose in life for example tamsic food is best if fighting a war- rajasic is rich and fit for the vibrant activities of life and easy to digest simple food is best for spiritual work because then the mind and body can focus on attainment and not digestion. My qualms with sadhguru also are that he blanketly suggests Fenugreek or neem to everyone whereas ayurveda is more discerning as to how these foods will specifically tweak the body and it's balance for that individual.
    I like your channel because it presents me with a challenge sometimes and I get to understand urban India but im afraid you've failed to strongman the spiritual argument for eating in certain ways and that makes it a weak discussion. All traditional diets have innate wisdom of sitting well in the stomachs of their genetic cohabitants but it was geared towards survival. Ayurvedic medicine states we can take this further and use the food to specifically serve our life purpose. As a Cambridge educated medic who has turned to ayurveda because years of studying western medicine didn't explain human ailments and suffering well enough, I'll state to you this- matters of spirit are important and a huge missing piece in the reductionism that comes with science. You need to widen your perspective just a tad.

Consistency with meditation helped me understand what felt right for my body, and the mind, and the kinder I became to myself, I let go of meat, and most tamasic food slowly. It was a process. What I eat now, is a choice that comes from a depper state of understanding of myself. Meditate for a year regularly, and see for yourself.

    Firstly, thanks for the video. I can understand its hard to go up against such figures.
    Heres a thought on channels and viewership. Big numbers doesn't mean that everyone is able to a) watch entire videos b) understand every sentence c) remember everything they watched d) follow the advice they heard, or use the info they got.
    In that sense, much of what i've heard from gurus is just 'in one ear, out the other'.
    We then go back to the way we lived always.
    This is why, while some influencers may have large audiences, their actual effect is very small.
    I do believe that those who like your thought process are in fact those who are already like you. It is very unlikely that the other side (or sides) will change teams, because of your words.
    People who dont like science, simply think its another religion, with a different vocabulary. The difference is not clear to them.
    You can't be scientific without a certain level of education. And even then, sometimes not.
    And, science needs a certain individual agency with regard to testing things for oneself, and that seems to be fundamentally missing in many people.
    We were taught science, without the habit of testing anything, rather we were supposed to just believe textbooks. That's the opposite of science. The miracle might be that some of us still haven't lost this habit of testing things out for oneself.
    Science isnt just the vocabulary, the technical terms, the jargon. But thats exactly what some people believe, and they attempt to adopt the terminologies with no mind to what they represent.
    Your efforts are up against an unimaginably large section of people who are never gonna understand it. Hate is the outcome, when people fail to understand. Its pure frustration. For there's nothing the modern man hates than to feel left out.
    For that, I felt I had to come out and say - thanks for doing it anyway.

    I salute @krishashok as it takes courage to make video on world famous personality like Sadguruji. You have constructive criticism on Sadguruji's thoughts on food with actually maintaining respect for him throughout the whole video. This is a very difficult task but you have managed it extremely well. However I feel that we do need people like Sadguruji or Shri Ravishankarji to maintain our mind's peace in this ruthless world. I would have gone crazy without spiritual support from them.

    I saw the Guru listening to one's problem and tossing it in the air saying that is not a problem at all. I have seen him giving unclear answers many times when the person asking the question is a very common one and can never even think of metaphysical aspects of anything. Guy was made to sit down later in the talk , I am sure the person went home even more confused. I somehow do not understand why people accept his answers. Oh yeah The Guru at times does not like someone countering him. LOL. I am worried about youngsters admiring whatever he says.

    • @krishashok
      @krishashok  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      To be honest, I don't think this is entirely about blind faith either. Most people are intelligent enough to be selective about what they choose to follow. Most religious people go to temples, pray to god, do havans and then do things like travel abroad, drink alcohol, be unfaithful, or do countless number of things that are pragmatic while being technically against their religious values. My limited point is that we are also part of a culture where there is a taboo against arguing with spiritual leaders, so while we are flexible as private individuals, we dont often see counterviews aired publicly that can help us change our minds

You said one can consider meat as satvik food! Bro you are just disrespecting whole thousands of years of knowledge of india's ayurveda... How can you say meat and fruit eating is same.... Meat digested in 24-48 hrs... When fruit digested in just 2-3 hrs.... Bro what is scientific about ur thought?....and ash goud or brigal sadhguru telling about positive or negative energy food....he is not talking about nutrition or chemical in it...that all can be massured by available instrument....but right now we don't have instrument that can massure positive or negative pranik energy in food....yes in future science will invent that instrument... Then we will know.... Every week or month there will be new scientific study we will reech there,. Don't misguide people with your assumptions and choice of food... You siad eat what you like... If i eat 8 red chilli every day it will be good for my stomach?! If i like to eat human flash it will be good? For me or for society?.... North India's ayurveda**
      Most others including a significant part of north India knows meat is good and healthy and eat it for yrs it's just a vocal vegetarian minority trying to demonize meat
      If you have thousands of yrs of ayurveda saying meat is bad there's ten thousands of yrs of evolution claiming we are omnivores 🤔
      and yes there are cultures that eat super spicy food and its not super unhealthy (too much sodium or sugars of indian cuisine are more unhealthy for example)
      just because you feel better by eating 5 chillies a day doesn't mean u can call someone enjoying 10 chillies bad different cultures have different spice tolerance.. it's like this thing some strange westerners do like calling indians smell like curry bcs of spices
      And I won't discuss morality everyone feels different levels of empathy for animals like I could shame you about why are you making a cow suffer constantly for ur milk but it's just not good 🤔
