"It costs millions and you can outperform it for a far lower price". Here is my answer to everyone who has said this in a comment before: True, but you do realize you're actually saying the same about the LaFerrari, Mclaren P1 and Porsche 918, right? (The 918 costs less, but in a way, it still counts) And if everyone made such a big deal out of this from the start, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Veyrons and all the great supercars will be non-existent today, because what's the point? Just simply buy a Supra, modify it and take it to the track, all for a reasonable price. The reason why they are so expensive is because they are the pinnacles of automotive engineering and design. A lot of effort was put into making these incredible machines. So be grateful we have cars like the Veyron and its cousins, for they are one of a kind, and we may never see their likes again in a few years' time.
Yeah, supras break in 2 weeks, but these kind of cars require constant maintenance too. If you let the cars sit for 2 weeks, the battery dies, and so do the electrical components of the car, You constantly have to use them, or recharge the batteries for example. Tires cost on this car 30.000 USD, and at every fourth set you pay 120k extra, to change the rims too.... Dont forget the annual maintenance (thats if nothing breaks), thats 30k + add an oil change (which even regular cars need at least once a year) thats another 20k. So yeah, supras break, but even from just changing a set of tires a year + maintenance + oil change, you can buy and tune another supra that makes 1000hp, if the first breaks.... :))
The thing about those hypercars is that their feel, performance and handling are extremely refined, and you can actually daily them to some extent, and even some like the Veyron/Chiron are comfortable enough to the point that they're pretty much 1000HP+ grand tourers. A 1000HP Supra doesn't have that level of refinement - I'm sure you'll have a lot of turbo lag, and on track they'll be destroyed by those hypercars unless you're running time attack aero or something.

I remember watching this as a kid. Now, I am an adult, and it brings me cry. How great this show used to be, how magical this moment was, and the moment I realized this will never be back
Just think. Just think the sweat, tears and blood shed by all those involved in the project of building of this exquisite piece of mechanical Art. All those long hours and overtime just to get this beauty out the manufacturing plant. All that hard work paid off in one instant. Truly I admit, human ingenuity is the most amazing trait that separates us from the other primates. But also, scary enough, we can annihilate ourselves in the blink of an eye and teke all life with us. Something to think about. Very nice climax, a tear came out my eye when I saw 407.4.km/h.
I was 17 years old when I first watched this Video back in 2009,now 32 years old, am still as captivated now as a was then, the Bugatti Veyron is truly a master piece.
Super cars are evolving FAST. I remember when Mclaren held the title for YEARS, same goes for Bugatti. Today, cars hold their records for months or even days. If someone isn't breaking the record they're about to. Here it's 253 MPH for a production car and today 10 years later we're at 277. What's next? 300? 400??? When does it stop and for what purpose do we continue? Because we can!
The reason you need the second key in the door (and the door must be open IIRC) is to stop you doing it accidentally or without thinking. You have to be determined and in a safe and responsible place before you start doing that kind of thing.
*in that moment... when everything is quiet, and you see the speed, you feel the power* *there is only one thing you can do.........* *KEEP PUSHING FORWARD KING, OORAH GOD BLESS AND GOD SPEED*
The significance of the Veyron is that it was the first to break 250 mph. Its official top speed now sits at 269.86 mph. Why would anyone brag about going 270.49 mph? Let us know when you break 300. THAT will be significant.
Interesting but little known fact - back in 1988, in Ohio, the Corvette Callaway Sledgehummer (not classified as a production car due to very few being produced) ran 1mph faster than the Veyron did in 2005. That record remained unbroken for about 20 years!

I remember watching this as a kid. Now, I am an adult, and it brings me cry. How great this show used to be, how magical this moment was, and the moment I realized this will never be back
A magic and very memorable moment in my life. My friend and I couldn't grasp what actually was happening. Pure insane over the top speed.
I've always wondered how much track he took to get to that speed.

James May just proving Flat Earthers wrong before it was cool.
this was one of my favorite episodes
What gibberish ,it's just a Volkswagen😂😂😂😂
@@hitlerunknown2702 you're the one talking gibberish you nazi twat
2019 and this video still makes me hold my breath every time
is this a joke
the grand tour ad in a topgear video XD
I was 17 years old when I first watched this Video back in 2009,now 32 years old, am still as captivated now as a was then, the Bugatti Veyron is truly a master piece.
2000s internet/TH-cam, back when we had quality content unlike boring and soulless stuff today
Btw that episode with the race Bugatti vs a plane was THE best episode in my opinion. Still watch this episode sometimes👍🏻
Big contrast from the Chiron video yall posted earlier
I admit, I shed quite a few droplets of saltwater that day. It's my favorite automotive moment and episode of all time. 💙
COP 👮♀️: Sir you know why I pulled you over ?
BUGATTI DRIVER: yes because I let you
Super cars are evolving FAST.
Years later and Bugatti is no longer fastest. Doesnt make this video any less epic though. Still enjoying it!
Chiron super sport 300+: am I a joke to you?
@@pallavi5067 it's not a production car, and it hasn't even set the world record
@@zainhummamy4272 now it is
@@zainhummamy4272 it is a production car
The record is unoficiall because you need to do 2 runs in 2 directions and Chiron did it in just one
The reason you need the second key in the door (and the door must be open IIRC) is to stop you doing it accidentally or without thinking. You have to be determined and in a safe and responsible place before you start doing that kind of thing.
7:44 May, 2008: “I'm pretty confident this is the fastest I'm gonna go in a car”
May, 2011: (going faster in the Super Sport) “am I a joke to you?”
6:55 OMG! Getting choked at 400+kmph is a disaster😅😅😵💫😵💫
I came back again after watching that latest Bugatti Chiron video which made me fall asleep.
407 to 490 km/hr wowow
The BEST episode and segment in Top Gear history, and that includes their new show Grand Tourer!
"I'm pretty confident that's as fast as I'm ever gonna go in a car."
And then he went above 410 in the Super Sport. :D
“This is Germany. There are procedures to go through... I like procedures”
Literally only Captain Cautious
*quietly coughs in German*
nice space odyssey reference 7:13
*in that moment... when everything is quiet, and you see the speed, you feel the power*
*there is only one thing you can do.........*
*KEEP PUSHING FORWARD KING, OORAH GOD BLESS AND GOD SPEED*
0:22 If the camera is able to keep up, that means the camera car IS a veyron
I remember seeing this on TV and I remember I was just amazed & shocked! I was only 6 or 5 years old & now I'm 16 xD and rewatching this on TH-cam ;D
The significance of the Veyron is that it was the first to break 250 mph. Its official top speed now sits at 269.86 mph. Why would anyone brag about going 270.49 mph? Let us know when you break 300. THAT will be significant.
Michael Leibowitz
It was the first production car to break the 400km/h barrier. Something many thought was impossible. Talk about significant
still watching this 2020 ..goosebumps still present .. what a drive .. would love to see LH drive something like this at max it out
So who’s here after the Chiron did 300mph?
Interesting but little known fact - back in 1988, in Ohio, the Corvette Callaway Sledgehummer (not classified as a production car due to very few being produced) ran 1mph faster than the Veyron did in 2005. That record remained unbroken for about 20 years!
It’s like comparing voyager 2 to the sewer lid we blew into space with dynamite
That track is probably the only place in the world to test the veryon ss's only true competitor the Hennessy venom gt
the Bonneville salt flats you can test speeds even greater.
This is true but with that much power in a lightweight rwd car it won't get any traction
Lemans curcuit de le sarthe in le mans france has a long straight away.....I think its a 7 miles straight away.
Gt... the kit car?
Lorenzo Moore its called a straight not strait
Away
James may: I think that's the fastest I'm ever going to go in a car
Bugatti: the hell you are
How long is this Track? Is this the Fast and Furious 5 Runway ???
