    In our last video in this series, we went all around Spain to check out all the different style of wines the country has to offer. Today, we’re starting our deeper dive into individual Spanish regions, so you get to know them by their first name and of course we’re beginning with the most famous of them all Rioja. We’ve all heard the name Rioja, but how many of you actually know what’s behind this illustrious name. We’ll keep it super simple and short here, although I’ll give you enough details and insights from a winemaker who’s actually worked in Spain (I have) so you really grasp well and remember the important facts and truly understand the wines. THIS is your essential guide to the wines from RIOJA.

    I love the American oak and the long aging requirements for Rioja Gran Reserva. The oak makes it taste amazing.

      Cheers Chris, it's a very distinct style indeed, and I quite like too :) Cheers!

    This was so incredibly informative and interesting to me. I do love the Spanish traditional Rioja, but have also tried the French style and appreciate it also. I really appreciate learning the terroir and how the three regions within
    Rioja differ. You are so thorough and knowledgeable in wine information. I have learned so much…. Thank you very much.❤

    Being not a fan of the "Spanish style" of Rioja, how do I find some good "French style" Riojas?

    • @AltiWineExchange
      @AltiWineExchange  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas, look out for cuvees that are aged in French oak for 12 to 18 months in French oak, single vineyards that sort of stuff. As I said in the video, it's not a clear line between the two style but more of a gradient, but shorter oak treatment and French oak are markers of the more "French" approach as described here if we can call it that :) Hope this helps

      I know that Bodegas Sonsierra use French oak barrels and age for 12-22 months, so perhaps you could take a look at them

    Esa copa que tienes en la mano, no es la mas apropiada para catar un rioja.
