When Joe Louis says "you're the most courageous opponent he has ever faced", pay Mr. Braddock his respect by studying him as well. God bless!

Joe Louis was an American hero and the IRS absolutely destroyed him financially. He donated winnings. Purchased a boat load of tickets to gift. Enlisted in the army as a private earning $21 a month. Donated his winnings to charity after Pearl Harbor. Still the government wanted more. He was flat broke and forced to un-retire in his late 30's to payback his debt. He lost to Ezzard Charles and Marciano. His boxing skills had greatly diminished at that point and took a beating from Marciano. IRS took his winnings and he was still broke. What this govt did to this hero was disgraceful...
Absolutely correct. For me...The Brown Bomber's (REAL) stats are when he retired...56 wins to 1 loss. Forcing him to come out of retirement, not just past his prime but a different man due to the pressures of being in debt (you know how men are about that kind of stress) was just criminal, in of itself! Out of the next 10 fights after retirement, he STILL went 8 and 2...ending his career with 66 wins to 3 losses....but for me, Joe's always gonna be 56 and 1.
