    It kind of made sense how aang passed away a bit earlier than katara, even doh most of his life was preserved in the iceberg he still stayed in it for 100 years so he's naturally older than the rest

    • @Knockedy
      @Knockedy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Yeah the average lifespan for previous avatars was around 150 years old and aang already spent 100 years in the iceberg so he had round about 50 years left to live and since he was 12 it would make sense as to why he died at age 66

      I don’t think that’s how they went about it. Well yes and no at the same time. Like u said he stayed in the iceberg for 100 years, but when he came out he was still a 12 year old boy. As he got older the years he spent in the iceberg caught up to him and he died at only 66, or 166 if u think about it in that way.

    • @salem8092
      @salem8092 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      spending 100 years in the avatar state wore out a lot of his vitality, explaining why he died sooner than he should have, and for me it's explainable, at least we got to see some other characters from that time

    • @kpuda7722
      @kpuda7722 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Knockedy Kyoshi wasn't "average." Even Avatars most likely live about as long as we do, with the possible addition or subtraction of a few decades depending on their lifestyle. For how Kyoshi managed to live so long, it's alluded to in the Kyoshi novels (though originally this was just a mistake by the writers that had to be explained away).

    this show is full of litle hidden details, one of my favorites is Tenzin's flying bison´s name "Oogie"...
    in some of the ATLA comics, whenever aang and katara would kiss or be all romantic, Sokka said that they gave him the "OOGIES" (like YIKES). Tenzin most likely grew up listening to his uncle say that every time he saw his parents express their love to each other. So basically, Tenzin named his flying bison after his parent's love.

If they could have planned for a 4 season show from the beginning instead of expecting 1 short season, I think it could have REALLY shined. But they still made a great show despite it.

    One thing I feel like is a detriment to adjusting to Korra is how fast reactors jump into it. When it was airing on TV, there was quite a few years in between the two series to where it did feel like FOREVER since we fans had gotten any new avatar content. I was starting secondary school when ATLA began, and was starting University when Korra began. Jumping into a world where Aang has passed away and new advancements had been made just felt appropriate, cause it already felt like Avatar as a series had been dead for so long (the younger you were, the longer it felt). There's gotta be a lot of whiplash going from ATLA to LoK almost instantly.

They still have ATLA fresh in their memory while starting this, making the time jump feels weird to them, hence the 8:09 interstellar comment. Compared to us who watched them when they were airing, we can really feel the time jump since we finished ATLA like years ago. I personally think reactors should give it at least 3 months break after ATLA before starting TLOK for better experience, preferable even a year.

      When it comes to ATLA and TLOK comparisons, people always overrate Aang and easily forget his faults, which is sad because these faults are a HUGE part of what make his character super legit since he's just a kid after all and kids can be like that. However, is always great to see how through discipline and conviction he gets his act together in order to deal with the war.
      On the other hand, whenever there's talks about Korra, they just remember her mistakes and failures, but never the positive. Korra is the perfect depiction of a prodigy who spent most of her life effortlessly being really good at whatever it was that she was supposed to be good at (bending) and then started running into the biggest obstacles thus realizing she can't exclusively depend on her natural talent but in hard work and harsh experiences as well. Seeing her in the first episode and then on the final episode is like looking at two completely different persons.
      I loved these two avatars as main characters and I would gladly watch the story of a third.

    2. Mako is named after the actor who was the voice for General Iroh, Mako Iwamatsu, who died after they finished recording the voices for book 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
    3. Mako is played by David Faustino of Married With Children and Tenzin is voiced by JK Simmons who played J Jonah Jamison in Spider-man, Commissioner Gordon in Justice League, and does the Farmers Insurance ads.

    Some points:
    First: they made Korra the mirror reflection of Aang.
    a)different genders.
    b)he's bold, she has hair.
    c)Aang was a master of one element and needed to learn the other three, Korra was a natural with the first three but failed at the last element being air.
    d) Aang was scrawny and didn't like fighting, Korra is an amazon who loves fighting.
    e) Aang was very traditional, Korra is very individualistic and free spirited.
    f) Aang was a very spiritual person, Korra wasn't at the start.
    g) Aang didn't want to be the Avatar but had to learn to become it. Being the Avatar was everything to Korra, her whole personality and self image/value revolved around it, and her journey was about learning to be more humble/getting of her high horse and balancing her role as the Avatar with being a normal member of the world.
    continue on replies...

    • @agm5424
      @agm5424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two series are also mirrors of each other and I would say they are practically each other's ying and yang with ATLA being the yang and LOK the ying side.
      let me explain:
      Yang represents aspects like maleness, being active, logic, simplicity, directness, openness and externality/extroversion to name a few. ATLA was a very straightforward show about a boy needing to grow into he's role in the world and stoping a straight forward force of evil/evil empire (fn). It was centered mainly on male characters, specifically Aang and Zuko. It had themes of both fatherhood and motherhood but clearly had a bigger focus on the fatherhood side, Zuko's relationship with both Ozai and Iroh, Soka and he's dad, Aang with his monk father figure who's name i can't remember how to spell, etc; and it was straightforward in how it ended, openly defeating the force of evil that treathening the world.
      Ying represents femininity, passivity, introspection, internality, deep ideas, the unknown, etc. LOK is very female centered, most of the characters are females and has strong themes of motherhood (spoiler). Korra's character arc/journey is mainly internal having to do with her personality and understanding of the world and thus a very important thing she most do is learn how to hold the breaks and think things through (passivity). It goes deeper into the whole spiritual thing. Each of the seasons problems are mainly philosophical and it would require some type of clash of ideas to resolve as oppose to ATLA's simple and external solution of it's problem, being beating the Fire Lord.

    • @agm5424
      @agm5424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As mention above the problems Korra will be facing revolve around ideas and philosophies. This would normally require time and discussion to properly address something that is hard to do in a short series whit a small number thirty minute episodes. I think this is the reason why some people didn't like the series as much as ATLA. Because being a tv show with a limited run time it didn't have the time to properly challenge and discuss said ideas in a efficient way. The problems were quickly solve with the good old "beating the bad guy formula" but in doing so it left the ideas at the center of the conflict up in the air. I think this type of "ying" stories, one's that are female centered and revolve around ideas and philosophies, are better explore in books and comics since both have the time and format to explore said ideas, how this ideas affect the world in the story and it gives the characters all the time they need to deal and resolve said problems and ideas in a complete manner.
      As for the main bad guys of the series and their respective idiologies I won't spoil anything, but since you already met seasons one's villain Amon I will leave this hint: he is in every shape and form the Anti-Avatar.

    Korra's training was similar to normal avatar training in that while she could use 3 elements from a young age she would have been trained first in water, then earth, and we saw her firebending test. What's abnormal is that she was in one place doing her training. Typically the avatar is supposed to master their native element then be identified as the avatar at 16 and travel to the other nations to learn the other 3 elements in the order of the cycle. That way they can learn about and experience the world in order to be a wise avatar
    Roku is the last avatar who got a normal training period. Aang was told earlier than normal at 12 and he had to learn the other elements in a rush to handle the war
