I have owned several models of detectors sold by Zircon. Zircon advertises that this detector will indicate the location of live ac wiring. As you could see in my video, I didn't have any luck detecting the location of wiring very close. Only got indications that wiring was nearby. Try like I did where you know live ac wires and outlets are to see how well it works.
is this detecting the drywall screws? i need one to detect joists to nail plywood to that don't have any metal. some joists are bowed a bit in the center.
This particular model has a selector switch to allow you to detect: wood studs, metal pipes & live AC electrical wires. I have owned several different models and they all perform about the same. I have never found one that reliably detects the center of a wood stud. They might tell you the general location of a stud. I think you could tell that from my video.
What is the difference between K4, H4, M4? The website doesn't make that really clear. Only thing so far is the color of the unit is different. Thanks for the video too
@@HowItWorks1 So what you are saying is that the M4 and K4 are identical units and the only difference is the color? I reviewed both and could not find one word to differentiate one unit from the other.
That was kind of what I thought. Wouldn't it be nice if they just spelled out the difference. A quick call to Zircon would confirm what if any difference there was.
Cosmetic differences for marketing reasons (so they can say, e.g., "M4 is available EXCLUSIVELY at Home Depot"): H4: Lowe's; K4: Zircon store; M4: Home Depot; W4: (haven't figured it out yet; it's green; Menard's perhaps?)
From Zircon: "Hi.Thanks for the inquiry. The similarities are: the functionality and technical features are the same. Both feature the new target control technology, a Zircon exclusive. They both come with the Zircon 20 year limited lifetime warranty. The differences are: The Kx features a slightly different molded rubberized plastic case that has nicer detailing. It is a golden yellow color. The Kx is sold exclusively on the Zircon web store that has promotional sales offers. Please visit the Zircon website for details. The Mx has a plainer plastic case, is a burnt orange color, and is sold exclusively at Home Depot stores. The Kx and Mx are the most versatile, complete, and technologically advanced stud/wall scanners Zircon produces."
Yeh there's another brand out there that connects to you cell phone. There add is really slick and makes it look like a great replacement. However some of the reviews of it don't back up the add claims.
I need to find an electrical outlet covered by wall board during construction. Advice. Just purchased a M4. Appreciate any tips.

Good to the point video
I hope some day to try a Walabot, but they are pretty expensive.

I dont think it’s the stud finder. I think y’all are not using equipment properly. I just bought it and mine works fine.

This link will show you all the features each model has.

Informative, but I wish you had spoken. Thanks.👍
Glad you liked the video and I hoped it showed you the limitations of stud finders.
Mine won't calibrate. Talking with Zircon this afternoon.
As you can see in my video, even when you think its calibrated, it is spotty in finding the center of a stud.
Yup, the more reason I don't buy Zircon anymore... they're still unreliable information. Thanks for reviewing.

Stud finders are all the same. 50/50 trust but verify. Take a magnet and see if it sticks to the wall, if it does you got a stud.
