Mowing THICK OVERGROWN grass // Does the Timemaster clog?

- Mowing thick overgrown grass is no fun but life happens and sometimes you don't mow your grass for a month (I wanted to let it grow to make a video on mowing overgrown grass). In my opinion if you can't bag your clippings, raising the deck up, mowing, then lower a notch at a time and cutting smaller amounts off at a time is the best way to do it.
Also, I've seen complaints about the timemaster clogging and clumping. If you're not mowing wet grass, you should have no issue with it. At least in my personal experience, I have had no issue with it.

One of my neighbors was running a Timemaster this weekend. I was mesmerized staring and he was like, "why is this guy watching me mow!" 🤔
I enjoy all your videos, but have a much greater respect for the challenge you face as a firefighter. I was able to train in fire simulators in the Coast Guard, it brings the same feeling of “gotta do it “ as performing a boarding on a drug runners ship with missing bad guys needed to be found hiding. Lots of people don’t get running into a building on fire or searching for gunmen on a ship in the ocean. Big thumbs up to you.

On the lighter side tho', it always slays me when I drive along and see people mowing their overgrown lawn and are struggling, because the deck is scalping it basically... I scream inside "RAISE THE HEIGHT OF YOUR MOWER!" 😨

That was a cool video! I’d lose my mind if I waited 4 weeks to mow. Most people who have clogging issues mow wet grass for sure.
If I had to buy another walk behind mower, I would want to try this one. Everybody who has one likes it! For now…I rock the recycler.

I never had issues with the Timemaster clogging, I get complaints in the comments on my Timemaster review about that a lot. For a rotary, it does offer the best cut quality of any mower that I have tried so far.
I do love my time master, but this year I have notice it building up under the deck when mulching. The tank I usually have to fill up a second time to finish my yard but I have 14k sqft to do.
Are you keeping your blades sharp as I noticed mine starting to do that when it is time to resharpen? After I do sharpen them there are no issues.
I did just do a resharpen, so we shall see if that did make a difference. I was thinking that may help.
It's crazy how much seed heads/annua Poe I have right now. Definitely need to get a post emergent down this fall.
Idea for video. Let your back lawn grow to 4"+. Mow half with bag and other half without & leave clippings down. Do it for 2 months. See if there's a difference. Would make a good video I think.

I bought a brand new, electric start, self propelled, Craftsman mower from a closing Sears store for $25...the money I saved bought a pallet of sod. Bam, instant lawn and way to cut it.

I think that was a pretty great review of the timemaster. I've mowed plenty of overgrown grass and I was expecting it to choke up on the bag section and just die on the mulch. It looked like the timemaster didn't even struggle with ether. Honey....I need a new mower.

Can you review the time master after the 3 years you had it? I’m about to pull the trigger on a purchase and would love a solid 3 years review before I buy it
I am on my 4th season with my Timemaster. Plenty of power. Great cut quality. Easy to work on. Can change blades in 15 minutes. Full tune up in 30 minutes. Get about 14k sq foot per tank of gas. Strongly recommend.

love my timemaster!! i must admit that mine does clog often when i mulch,, so i just side dis... i have been wanting to try fluid flim on the underside to see if it makes a difference. looks good! hope the new property is coming along.
Weird I’ve never had any clog issues!
If you have the opportunity, another method is to cut at your regular height, then raise your deck up a notch, and mow it again. Pick that one up from The Grass Daddy, and has worked well for me.

@@michaelhamer1029 Guys - do you mind me asking what is the issue with grass going to seed? I was without my lawnmower for two weeks while it was being repaired and my grass took off in a big way with seed heads in abundance. But if this is seed of my good grass (fescue/rye) what is the harm in that? I had read that the effort to grow and sprout takes a lot out of the plant. Is that it?

We just bought our first house and the previous owner didn't take care of the lawn at all... We have tons of crab grass, dandelions, and other weeds. The grass was nearly a foot tall, so I scalped the lawn with the mower at the lowest setting and I'm not sure what to do next. It's nearly summer and I'm unsure if now is the time to kill the weeds (and with what?), or do I just wait until next Spring to weed and feed? Thanks to you I now know I need a crescent edge tool, but I am completely at a loss for the rest of it. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Letting the grass get super long and then mowin er down to 2 inches used to be normal for me 😮😔. Will letting this happen once in awhile damage the grass?

My gripe about the time master is the stupid blue foam filter piece that's in the gas tank. The small is tank is kinda annoying, but not more annoying than that piece. I saw a video were a guy pulled that out immediately. I thinking of doing it, but I would assume it would void the warranty.

That first gen GCI Blueheat is pretty disappointing. The light color from the junky cultivars is frustrating. I have it in my front yard, and a fall reno is in order. The newest version of the Blueheat contains all elites and that's the way it should have been.

TimeMaster seems to have ample power to hack down overgrown grass!
The common rule is not to cut more than 1/3 of the height. Wouldn’t cutting that much at once stress out the grass? I would think to start at the highest setting and then a couple of days later, lower it and so on.
As long as you aren’t doing this often it’s perfectly fine. Grass is probably one of the most resilient things on this planet. No worries at all

Just bought a Timemaster ,have you had any problems with it pulling itself up a slope (10 to 15 degrees) ?
Nope I have probably 25 degree slopes on the sides of my house and no issue

First Aussie 😁. I think if you would have blown your wad all at once you would not get the same effect as you have by doing it multiple times . The pleasure in doing it multiple times to a high standard is more satisfying and a cleaner look , you have to enjoy your lawn therapy. 😎👍👍
