    I am always impressed with Carlos. Positives and negatives and most importantly the context of the situation. I feel like I walk away with some details that I missed in other reviews.

    God damn..... 11.90 1/4 mile times from a 5 cylinder turbo AWD damn that's impressive.....

    Just to educate people, the new ttrs and rs3 both share the same drivetrain. They have no set torque bias. This is more like an unlocked haldex awd and can be configured via drive select. To the mention of understeer that every auto reviewer mention about audi's in general try lift off throttle oversteer. It is the only way to oversteer an audi properly. Stop trying to drive it like a rwd vehicle and your concerns are fixed.

      I love 5 cylinder engine notes, but this one sounds too much like 4 cylinder fake induction noise.

      Nah, this is one of the best sounding 5 cylinders ever. Like a mini Gallardo or r8 v10. A bit muted in this video. Did the car have the sports exhaust?

    Great job, Carlos, as usual. I am very interested in the TT RS for my next ride in a year or so and appreciate your candid review. I see it as a 7 or 8/10ths kind of car and, as you said, something that looks and sounds very unique on the road while still being safe, comfortable and luxurious. Keep up the good work!

    The Audi TTRS Carlos reviewed all those years ago at Motor Trend is what helped me get into cars, happy to see him revisit the car again after all these years.
    Would love to see how something like a Q60 Red Sport AWD would compare against something like this, very similar horse power numbers weight and price tag
    not withstanding.

    • @edmundscars
      @edmundscars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed... Now if only we knew an automotive website/TH-cam channel that could possibly get both cars in for a comparison. :)

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BigHeadClan isn’t the Q60 a midsize sedan? It may have similar power, but I think that is about the end of the similarities. I think the TTRS weighs more than 600lbs less...

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alan Bowers Well a coupe but yes she's a heavy girl. However the Q60 makes Same power has awd and starts at 52K msrp, so if your looking at high hp luxury coupes it's a worthy comparison.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BigHeadClan ah yeah I keep getting the Q50 and 60 confused. You make a good point that though they are quite different, people may indeed cross shop them.

    Liked the review a lot! The last review of the TT RS ( 8J ) was a real shame. But this one is very helpful. I’d only add that you don’t have to focus only on the unique character of the vehicle. Talking about performance and handling, specifically, as the tester says there is a lot more to easily improve both.

    Many of you probably don’t know this was filmed at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles, and this car is pretty much the main competitor to the 718. That’s why Porsche is one of the most respected car brands.

    The 42/35 tire pressure in the door jam is the Maximum load tire pressure. The normal load tire pressure is 35/29. Can't really say why the Maximum Load tire pressure is in the door jam without stating as such. The full list of tire pressures are in the owner's manual.

  • @beetleything1864
    @beetleything1864 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i had a 2004 Porsche 911 and a garage told me drop the tire pressures from the recommended and it drove waaay better on slightly lower pressures. The manufacturers go for economy not grip and real world situations. Front wheel drive cars brake late and hard on the corner to load the front tires and get on the gas early to pull you out of the corner.

    • @floridamaddogg
      @floridamaddogg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never ever go by "starting price" or "starts at price" 😂😂😂...most cars and especially the German cars, all come with options to varying degrees. Usually add about $10k to any german car and even other cars in similar class, and that will be the average MSRP on the cars. Some a touch less, and the ones fully decked out, a little more. Look at the BMW M3. It starts at like $64k. If you find one at $64-65k (brand new), I will buy you a house 😂.....they usually sell at mid to high 70s, but those aren't the competition pack cars and no carbon ceramic brakes. The one I priced out was $88k. Most M3 go for $80-88k. Difference is if you get the carbon ceramic brakes which are a $8000 option. Never go by starting price. Just doesn't exist. My Hellcat "starts at" $63k. Mine was $71k as that is about what they all go for.

  • @swanblake

    Nice job Carlos. I love the TT. I had a tuned TTS which I regret selling so have been keeping an eye on the TT RS. But for $80k...dunno about that. That's Z06 territory. 60/40 weight bias is a bit surprising as well. It's seems like Audi really isn't aiming at the Cayman or 'Vette as a purpose- built sports car. Seems a bit more civilized than those...to its' detriment. Still...0-60 in 3.6, the style and all-wheel drive make a decent case. You didn't seem as taken with it as you did with the Stingray or Z06. Maybe that's the Edmunds talking.

    If you want to go unnecessarily fast all year round. TTRS or RS3 are your best bets
    A second faster 0-60 than a Cayman S/GTS
    I've heard nonsense of getting a used GTR? the best you can find is 4 (usually 5 years old) for the price
    Most AMG's are going to hit this price range really quickly.
    Interior/design is better than anything domestic.

    He sounds like a lot of guys who reviews cars. When a car maker does new things in the car they get criticized about the change. Whats the difference about turning on the air where it comes from than on the dash? After you turn on thr air or heat you usually turn the dials anyway lol.

    I think that the Audi TTS is a somewhat alternative to the Cayman for individuals that live in the cold. Dynamics wise I understand the Audi will lose to the Cayman. But, it gives confidence with multi-weather situations That’s why it was made. Carlos once again gives incite that nobody else really does.

    Great review, but Audi's typical GT-style DNA still shines through. I dont think I counted one moment in this piece where you were gleeful or excited while pushing around the track (as opposed to the Mustang/Camaro review). I think it would be a damn fine sporty commuter though, however it sounds like it could use some more range in its dampening settings.

    The vehicle seems to not have changed since its debut.
    Front-biased AWD = safer, and that was the intention from the start with this vehicle. But for $80k. There's a lot of other choices out there for a lot less that will put a bigger smile on your face when you mash the gas pedal down.
    Carlos, I love you, buddy. But your reviews seem to have lost the luster that they had when you did them for Motor Trend.
    May I suggest that you adopt a protege? Someone to bounce ideas off of. Someone to give a different take. And it's always more fun when there's more than one. Well, not always, but you get my point. Come up with a catch-phrase. When you get that protege, make up a secret handshake and finish it off with a double victory pose at the end of your reviews. Take TFL for example, those guys are near the top of my favs! Just some thoughts for ya, my man.
    Keep those videos coming!!!

  • @peterburian8374

    Carlos has been my favorite reviewer for a long time, but I miss the interaction between him and a second reviewer. And some of the silliness/fun that they provided in MT reviews, as well as their debates. Here, he does fine but sometimes I feel that he is just going through the motions to collect a pay check. I never felt that in his MT reviews.
    Also, why not tell the viewer what other competing sports cars are available in this price range and their pros/cons by comparison. Perhaps Edmunds does not do that in their reviews. (I have not viewed many but will do so, if Carlos is doing it.)

      Garrett Losabia Cayman, Shelby 350GT R, Z06, ect. True sports cars. You could go F Type for a more GT car too

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. The Corvette is both faster and a better drivers car. It doesn't even need the Grand Sport or Z06 packages (which can still be had under $80k). The GT350 is without a doubt the best sounding car available right now, and does very well on track as well, even without the R option which tends to add a lot of dealer markup. For much less money there is also the upcoming Mustang GT PP2 that is meant to compete with the very competent Camaro SS 1LE.
      The Camaro has a few fallbacks but is truly an excellent drivers car from bottom to top, and in top trim the ZL1 1LE beats cars that are 2-4x it's $72k price. Even the much more comfortable regular ZL1 matched the McLaren 650S on Willow Springs.
      If your from Europe and can't easily get these cars there is still the Cayman, Lotus Evora, and M2 which is are good drivers car as well.

    I really WANT to like this car, but 80k is a lot. You could get a a ZL1 Camaro with 650 hp, or a GT350. If your not into Muscle cars You should be able to get an M3/M4, or hell a C63 AMG for that kind of money. Looking at the used Market maybe even a 2 year old GT-R, Z06 Vette, M5s and E63/CLS63 AMGs.
    TTRS looks like a mini Supercar, but there are a lot of cars better in a straight line and around a track for that money.

      Apples and Oranges. AWD vs RWD.

    • @sinoperture
      @sinoperture 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FWD v RWD. The TT uses a Haldex system. Not a torsion one. No centre diff or rear diff with actual locking and gears. It is a FWD car in how it drives and pulls in and out of corners. I drove one for many years.

    • @AlexanderHuzar
      @AlexanderHuzar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean "torsen" (autocorrect?)? But yes, agree 100%. I have an S3 and I absolutely love it, but it's no drift car unless it's icy/snowing in which case the ass end is all loosy goosy...usually the car tries to rotate counter-clockwise for some reason.

      Because roads are angled so that water runs off to both sides, so when spinning the tires it will tend to move towards the edge of the road.

      A Camaro SS 1LE and an MX-5, and then I'd still have $10k left over.

      Corvette GS for the styling or M4 for the practicality+sport ability

      RS3 has the same engine and platform and is much cheaper and slightly more practical.
      However to answer your question, for $80K, I’d get a Camaro ZL1 1LE or a Cayman S.

      Technically it all started with the Audi 50 that later shared its platform for the VW Polo and VW Golf 1... so saying it's based on a Golf is wrong. Many of VWs platforms derive from Audi.

    Why do all you journalist repeat crap relevant only to the mk1 TT? The mk2 base model TT has the ability to send up to 100% of power to the rear wheels as do all mk2 and mk3 models. Read the materials Audi provides you and drive the car like you stole it... Record a slow mo vid focus on both the front and rear wheels and watch the rears spin for a fraction of a second then watch the fronts engage... Drop the hairdresser bs... While the TT is attractive... Who cares so is a 370z and a 488gtb.
    Mk3 unbiased awd: www.audiusa.com/models/audi-tt-rs/performance
    Mk2: To help give you optimal traction in practically every situation, the center differential can distribute power to the front and rear wheels individually.
    During normal driving conditions (aka cruise control on a highway), it directs 85
    percent of the torque to the front wheels, but in extreme circumstances (aka snow or AutoX) it can transfer up to 100
    percent of the torque to one of the two axles.

    80k for a super saiyan golf? Shoosh.
    That buys some serious metal. Cayman. Corvette. Camaro ZL1. Mustang GT350R. M3/M4. Maybe even a lightly used GT-R if you twist some arms.
    Pass.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Blake Swan while it is nose heavy, it’s not much different than a WRX STI, EVO X or Focus RS in that regard (which are all lauded for being fun still). Mustang and Camaro are only a few percent ahead, and even the BMW M4 has gotten a tad nose heavy in its most recent iteration (which this TTRS is quite a bit lighter than). So think of it as a uber luxury hot hatch. With non-OEM spec’d tires set to more appropriate pressures, and I think this thing would rival the other vehicles listed in the OP’s comment.
