I do wish I could study with you, but you're there, and I'm here, and even if that wasn't true I probably couldn't afford the lessons! Thank you for your generosity in sharing your videos. I've rolled myself round the house, will put a ball in the way.
Thank you - this explains and demonstrates how ‘rolling’ complements the 3 forward energies, how to stay on your opponent’s centre, the principle seems clear, and you show how we can practise it even without a partner. This is all very helpful.. But I’m left trying to puzzle out the traditional translation of ‘Lu’ as ‘roll back’. How does this rolling to keep the forward needle on target combine with rolling to keep the opponent off-target? how does this complement to the forward energies combine with managing the opponents incoming energy? How does this presentation of ‘roll’ combine with another favourite image, the floating log that rolls you off, unless you are perfectly aligned with its centre? Luckily, your practice wall is not trying to hit you with the football. And the floating log is not rolling to target your centre with its peng buoyancy. But an actual opponent is both a moving target and an active attacker, so our lu does have to do both jobs simultaneously. How? In short, I loved this video, and I’m eagerly awaiting more…
