    I apologize for the digital camera filter used in this video. The effect was unintentional.
    It is ironic that it is often only after long practice with complex "advanced" drills that students begin to understand the importance and meaning of the most simple and basic exercises, and that they have been practising the basics incorrectly, if at all.

    I've seen pushing hands for fifteen years and have always been really curious but I never understood it. This is the first time it's actually made sense.

    I felt like I wanted you guys to hug at the end. I am really happy for David... he is progressing on his journey! You can see it in the way he moves (or in the way he doesn't move) and hear it in the way he talks about tai chi. Good work, and thank you for sharing this insight filled video!

    This is the best explanation I have hear about the essence of Tai Chi and at the same time explaining and showing the difference between this and other systems of martial arts.

    The music analogy is spot on... the more one advances, the more it all comes down to removing all distractions and doing the basics extremely well.

    The student loves to keep doing the fingers to the eyes and the palm to the nose. It is obvious no one ever did this attack to the student because the student would eventually by accident get eye jabbed hard or get his nose smashed hard. He would have learned immediately I don't want someone blinding me by accident so I will be careful not to do that to someone else.

      It is a good point. (pardon the pun.) I take the risk here, because he does not fight with others, and I don't want to inhibit natural instinct that would serve him well in a real fight. Plus, it is a good lesson for me. Sometimes we wear goggles, though.

      @@IanSinclairTaiChi , I realized after watching latter videos you were trying to teach him to respond always by fingers in front of the eyes as a reflex. I myself don't like anyone even pretending to finger jab me. They eventually actually get us. I been poked and accidentally smashed in the face enough. I always say go as fast and as hard as you want but remember my turn is next .You are more brave than me Sifu. lol

    Based on this demonstration, one does not have to have an awareness, of any kind about one's own structural alignment. So a limp sack of anything can do these things, as long as it has mind. ^^ EDIT: Thank you for sharing.

    • @IanSinclairTaiChi
      @IanSinclairTaiChi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On the contrary. The point of this video is that awareness of subtle alignment is extremely important.

    The way you're teaching it bugs me. Why are you not rotating your arm to press with the palm on each other's arms when changing from giving and receiving? It's not giving you a proper feeling of issuing with your palm without that and you need to learn how to catch and stick with the rotation.

    • @IanSinclairTaiChi

    Blah blah blah... How much standing practice have you actually done Ian? For as long as I've known you (since the early 90s, when you would learn something from Shou-Yu Liang one day and then go and teach it at your "school" the next day) you were always looking for "quick" results. Again, how many years of rigorous standing practice have you done...I'd wager NONE.
