    Hey, friends! If you are confused between using this method or using "Shift Edge" or "Decontaminate Colors" inside Select & Mask, know that all of them are specific to different situations. This technique is important when you want to selectively remove halos fast only from certain areas and not the whole image. It can also be used on the entire image if it lacks hair or fur. Hope it helps! Thanks again, and keep creating ❤️

    Since you already have a mask around her, you can also just use the layer styles and apply an inner glow, which you make black or any dark color that best fits. You can also control radius and smoothness. Then split the layer-style to a separate layer, apply a mask and then only mask it in where you want.

    • @davidholdstock
      @davidholdstock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdmoreMethod Hello :) Yes that was what I was meaning. You can apply the 'minimum' filter without having to tell Photoshop where you need the halo removed. It simply removes any and all of them. You can then refine the result everso simply by painting black or white on the mask in the normal way.

    If you use levels, you'll have much more control over the amount of removal and the sharpness of the edge and it's still easy to use. This is also a better tool in situations where your selection wasn't perfect and when some parts of the selected image are more in focus than other parts. This is how I use levels:
    1. click on the layer mask
    2. select part of the image where you'd like to remove the halo with the lasso tool
    3. go to filter > blur > gaussian blur and blur the selected part of the mask (the amount depends on the quality of the mask) to get a smoother edge after the next step
    4. now use levels on the mask. You can now move the black, grey and white point, giving you much more control
    TIP: Try to work from "corner" to "corner", so in this case from the point where the two leg connect to the inside of the knee, then from the inside of the knee to the heel of the shoe, then select the heel and the sole of the shoe, etc. This will give a smoother result on longer straight lines.

    Interesting technique. I have always found it quite easy to just use the defringe feature. Layer/Matting/Defringe. This works with a cutout image not with a layer mask. So you will need to apply the layer mask to the layer before applying defringe

  • @andrewnighswander662
    @andrewnighswander662 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is great tip, the only thing I'd add is that some of the leftover brightness is often the light hitting the subject rather than the old background, so you don't want to lose the edges of the actual figure. (I'll typically hit those with, of course, a curves adjustment.) Amazing video as always.

    That's a good way of doing it. I was taught another way, so basically subject select then once that's done, you want to make a mask with that then go to filter>other>minimum and doing like 0-1px adjustment to your liking. Faster way.
    Ctrl+left click on the layer mask to get it's selection
    Ctrl+J on the layer ( not the layer mask), you will copy the content cropped in to a new layer.
    Now:
    Go to Layer menu - Halo- Remove halo- set value to 1.
    This will remove the halo automatically of the whole image.
    It takes a 6 seconds average to do this to whatever image.
