Don't always listen to Gary Moore, but when I do, so do the neighbours.
That is a funny comment. Back in the 80's I put a sound system in my car that would wake everybody up. My amp had to be wired up with # 4 battery cable. Eventually, the police got me, but it was only a $ 40 ticket.

If you're worried about fakes, look for a certificate of authenticity when you buy one.
The big obstacle for buying a gibson LP is the price; they're not cheap. I wouldn't worry much about fretbuzz or fakes if you have the money, just be careful and check with someone that knows gibson guitars if you're not sure.
His vibrato is just so perfect...if I lived another hundred years and practiced all day every day I might reach 10% of his natural skill...RIP Gary, you'll be missed by your fans.

Yeah. And being able to do the fingers is only a half of the challenge. You have to be able to imagine the music and hear it in your head first, to be able to tell the fingers what to play.
Gary Moore is my strongest influence when i play lead. Whether i intended it or not. In the end, i hear him distantly in my playing. Almost like standing ahead of me clearing the way. Each and every time i get lost in the space, i feel his energy. I will never reach him but I'll chase his spectre in my dreams forever. I've been on the lead for 11 years. He's my main inspiration. Rest in peace. Rest well.

I'm 74, seen darn near all the best of our greatest era. Hendrix was never at this level. He was excellent, no question. But when you factor in the likes of SRV and Moore, for example, they are in a league to which very few can qualify.
Eddie surpassed this at age 22-23, not to say this guy isn’t making it wail but sheer ability Eddie Van Halen definitely touches this

I have heard s few Carlos Santana solos that I like better.
Not saying Moore is not very talented, because he clearly is.
But Santana focuses more on the heart and soul of a tune like Europa or Samba pa'ti. He digs deep, deep down and tugs on the heart strings.
Moore does some of that too, but the raunchiness and speed takes away from that soulful element a bit

Still, Moore is a guitarist that anyone would love to have in theìr band for sure

First heard him when he was 17 with the original Skid Row. Saw him with Colosseum 2 in 1976 and in the Scars tour around 2000. He was indeed fantastic. If you haven’t already, check out the Andrew Lloyd Webber sponsored’ Variations’ it’s basically Colosseum 2 (with Gary Moore) doing different interpretations of a theme byPaganini.
@ The Great Zambini I'm 62 years young, found him when he was with Thin Lizzy. He crossed over to the blues in 1990, the rest is history. And I sure hope you found the rest. I have all his DVD's and CD's and watch/listen to them all the time. None better!

Just watched this for the first time. Had me in tears. Gary and his guitar were absolutely conjoined. They had to be - that guitar empathasised with every emotion a human could feel. Love, loss, joy, happiness, sadness - Gary and his guitar went through every emotion together. May they still be making beautiful music together in heaven now.

For the first time. Gary is not my favourite guitarist. But he hits a sweet spot in my ear, soul and heart, like no other. EVERYTIME
Saw him live in Hamburg/Germany a couple of years before he passed away too early. The crowd was probably every guitar player in town. Gary would play a long solo and then just stopped for a second. The audience was dead quiet. He left them all speechless. Everyone was overwhelmed by this emotional performance. That´s how i remember Gary 😢

I saw a show at Tavern on the Bridge where it was Monte Montgomery 2nd time there and this time it was 40% guitarist from the Atlanta area that had heard about MM and the same thing.... during interludes people just jaw drop mesmerized. I know what you mean. This one is alltime world beater. RIP.

In 1982 Gary was part of a festival in Hamburg, he opened with shapes of things, the stage was wall to wall fender amps, four cabinets tall, they were the entire backdrop, I never heard anything like it before, or since, I was a instant fan.

I stumbled across Gary by accident while perusing some guitar music on Pandora. Just WOW!! Not sure how I hadn't heard of him before because I am a huge blues fan! This is phenomenal!! I saw him several times and many of his songs 'got me' but the one that 'got me' the most ... believe it or not, was his rendition of Need Your Love So Bad, in Leeds. Tears rolling down my cheeks for all to see ... who cares. It was ..... just fabulous ... so moving. R.I.P Gary.

Gary is imo absolutely the most underrated guitarist of all time. He brought his music to life. Not something you just heard, but something many of us deeply felt. I agree. When I look to see who are considered the top 10...top 25... or top 50 guitarists of all time he is never there. And I feel he can play as well if not better than alot of the players listed. This guy is unbelievable with his touch and sound!

Had the pleasure of seeing him play twice - once as a teenager in his first band, Skid Row, in the early 1970's and then alongside ZZ Top in 2002. Truly brilliant performances on both occasions

@@ric3380 Like all of us he went through some very bad times starting off very early in life. We ALL go through long suffering, he had a very hard childhood. When the man passed, there wasn't even a grave stone for him until much later. Sad all the way around, again you can hear his pain in his playing.

Died less than a year later.......... crazy! I play for hours every night, have done so for years and as I'm approaching 40 I can now see that I'll NEVER come close to that standard. 20 years ago it seemed possible, but with all the dedication and may I say my natural talent, I can't get close to that!!!!!!! Unbelievable skill, that guitar is just an extension of his fingers. He didn't have to 'learn', he could just 'do'!!!! What a man....
This guitar piece gives me so much happiness. I listen to it again and again. What emotional, beautiful playing. And see, another thing is, see the expressions on the faces of the band artists. The keys. The bass/drums. Supporting him. Quietly, letting him take the lead. This is what I love about bands. So much respect for each other. So much space for self expression. The moment is so special. Just pure emotions running high with music. Precious moments, makes you feel why we are humans, why we love to love, why we are, why we exist. Rest in peace. Once in a while, some great musician comes to the earth. They leave behind something which makes us happy every time we absorb their creation. That's why god made musicians, so that they can fill our lives with happiness.

Gary is simply the ultimate/master/pinnacle of guitar playing of all time.
This is like he is reading a book to you and although you don't hear words or know what the story is about, you still go the the same feelings and emotions as if you understood every word!

thats right, every time he played it was a different performance, he would change little nuances, which very few would even recognize, just insanely talented. He took control of that instrument and made it cry, sing, laugh, scream etc. So smooth, so frantic. live performances were so much more!!

Speaking of Les Paul players, You might wanna check out John Sykes. He was big in the 70’s and 80’s, and has incredible vibrato, and really emotive playing like Gary!

Oh yes the 80s. When I discovered Out in the fields in 1985 I thought what an absolutely brilliant true rock song. Its got it all. And Gary absolutely smashed Friday on my mind and made the easybeats version sound boring.

@@arthurmckenna8154 well yes. I was born in 68 however I grew up in the 1980s, I knew nothing of Gary Moore until 1985 when I bought a 7inch single called "Out in the fields", it blew me away, then in 87 "Friday on my mind" was released, it blew the Easybeats version out of the water.
I have never heard a more energetic, powerful guitarist than Gary Moore. Hendrix may be the Master but my god Gary was astonishingly brilliant.

It was good to listen to this again without a commercial in it. As for any debate between Gary Moore and Eric Clapton, well there shouldn't be any. Gary is closer to Jeff Beck jazz, than to Eric blues. He has developed his own sound as have Clapton. They are both Epic performers each with their own right of passage. Rip Gary, and Eric, here's to a few more good years. You both have contributed beyond excellence in the art of the guitar. And forgive me if I ever misled anyone to think one is better than the other. Greatness has no bounds nor a single performer.
As an aging guitarist myself,I really appreciate Gary's full on devotion to his guitar methods,and his passion to his playing.Not everybody realizes this,but he actually played a note in the lead riff to his well known "Still got the blues for you", that didn't exist before he played it,because it was totally off the scale,literally.It was investigated at the time by one of the big American University music academies,and found to be pitch perfect,and therefore accredited to him as a new note!!! How's that for true talent,R.I.P.Gary Moore👍

This is an impassioned solo, and this man clearly demonstrates mastery of the instrument, here and elsewhere, but this particular performance isn't necessarily definitive.

@@davidcherry3107 Hello David,all musical instruments are tuned to a musical pitch,the standard guitar tune is in the pitch or key of E,and you can therefore tune your guitar by using a guitar tuner or before guitar tuners were invented,we used pitch fork tuners,or a piano to obtain correct pitch for the key of E.That said Gary played a note on the guitar that was actually above the fretboard (higher than is achievable by using standard frets)which generally consist of 22 frets for a standard electric guitar to 24 for an extended fret board guitar,Gary played a note that was consistent with the 27 th fret,which of course can be played on a grand piano but completely unheard of on a guitar,and when it was checked to see where it was in terms of pitch,was exactly in the centre of the 27th fret(which doesn't exist) and therefore pitch perfect!
The note in question,is the F note,(pretty standard stuff eh?)but this F was played on the top E string(1st string) up two full octaves!

Yes. The comment sounds like an urban legend type of thing.
The claim is fraught with questionable statements.
First, guitars aren't tuned to a key. In music, a key refers to a grouping of chords and scales that form the harmonic basis of a musical composition or part of a composition. When chords an notes are written in the traditional form, as opposed to a guitar tab, they are notated in concert C. There is no need to transpose, as there is with a flute or a trumpet for example.
The open strings in standard tuning are EAFGBE, so it wouldn't make any sense to say the guitar in "in the key of E Major, since G and D are not in the E Major scale.
Using standard tuning, the "27th fret" on the high E string would be a G 2. Much higher notes can and have been played on the guitar, using pinch harmonics for example.
Finally, the highest note on an 88-key grand piano is a C 8. Higher notes can and are achieved on the guitar using a variety of techniques and or technologies.
None of this is meant to take anything away from Gary Moore. He was certainly one of the great guitarists of his time.
Just to get it out of the way, I play the guitar, but not well enough to refer to myself as a guitarist. I play a handful of other instruments, and I play them all better than I play the guitar. I mention that in anticipation of the possibility of being attacked by other commentators.
There are so many truly great guitarists. I suppose we all have our favorites. I'm partial to Steve Vai, (especially the work he did with Frank Zappa and his live work with Dweezil), FZ, Prince, Terry Kath, Gary Clark Jr., Larry Carlton, Barney Kessel, Wes Montgomery, and George Benson, and of course Hendrix.
I don't think any of them (or any of the other great guitar players) have come even close to Hendrix, for reasons that can't be stated in words without subtracting from his otherworldliness.
I remember the hype over SRV, a genuine virtuoso, back in the 80s. I was incredibly impacted by his cover of Voodoo Child. But, if you listen to SRV play it, then listen to Hendrix, you quickly realize Hendrix was on a much higher plane.
Okay, I'll stop. Just meant to say, "you're correct." If the OP has a source for his claim and wishes to present it, I'll be happy to check it out. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to admit it publicly.

Growing up in Northern Ireland throughout the "troubles" in the 70's and 80's it was often difficult for me to see anything positive about my culture. Gary Moore was among a few who personally gave me hope. Although he never banged on about his Northern Irish roots he was born in Holywood that is Holywood with one "L" on the outskirts of Belfast. R.I.P Gary, even the late great BB King though he was something else and that IS saying something!

I'm glad I experienced this man's talent in my lifetime. I saw him with Thin Lizzy and have admired him throughout his remaining career. I miss him and am sorry he is no longer with us. His music will live on.

I was incredibly lucky many years ago. I walked around the streets of Copenhagen (Denmark) where I live, and didn't know what to do, bored and no plans for the day.. Then I spotted a poster showing Gary Moore gave concert in just a few hours - bought a ticket - went home to shower and down a few beers to get in the right mood for epic guitar - Maaaan, did Gary blow us all into guitar-heaven that evening, best damn concert I´ve ever experienced!! On the other hand.. in the early 90´s I was prowling the streets on my beloved Kawasaki Gpz1000rx with my gf riding pilion. We had no plans for the weekend and ended up just driving back home and watch TV.. Later I found out Stevie Ray Vaughan was playing at Ringe Festival that weekend, just 1 hour ride from where we were.. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhrggg I´ll never get over that ;(
I bought two tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughn. I split up with the gf I had at the time, I got them because she wanted to see him, so I gave them to a friend. He passed a year later. I kicked myself for that one, too.
